The interesting thing about Simpson is that he'll most likely land in this intermediate space that's a mile wide between being a generational talent and a bust and people just won't know what to do with that.

Guys progressing about where I'd expect things. I'd love for him to be a little further along but honestly he'd probably only be that way as a rookie if he had greater physical attributes than what he has so it is what it is.

Hope he keeps stacking days. Definitely flashing some good things and that's exciting.
Yeah for me the flashes are simply something I want to see because I would never expect any rookie to be consistently balling out especially at the QB position. I know it's early but it's encouraging to definitely see that he's putting together some good play.

That’s for Swing Tackle.
There will be a Plan B should AJax be unavailable for more than a couple games. Plan B cannot be Q or Trost.
Sorry that's one of the funniest things I've read in a long time.

Honestly, if he falls short of generational talent but can hit every throw in the system and command the offense as only a legitimate starter can, that’s all we can ask for. McVay can win Superbowls with that. We’ve been spoiled with Stafford…but Stafford is all-time for a reason. Too many generational prospects fail. I want someone that’s maybe top tier above the neck even if his game is a tier down from that.

Totally agree we've been spoiled by Stafford.

And what you said about hitting every throw... it's that and relatedly what McVay saw in him according to reporting this spring. McVay wanted a guy who could go from 1 to 5 in the progression and it looks like that might be Simpson's superpower if he hits, that and a little bit of athleticism to escape the pocket.

Ferguson's injury came at an unfortunate time last year developmentally, and he missed the preseason games. He was also out towards the end of the season for a few games. Hope he's good to go all this season so we see what he can really do.

Must admit I'm completely confused as to how greater physical attributes would make him a little further along in his development.

I'd be real concerned with McClendon at LT. In the September 15, 2024 game against the Arizona Cardinals in Phoenix, McClendon gave up 3 sacks in the first half. I was at that game, behind the Rams bench in the 12th row. I had a clear view of McClendon that whole half, including the 3 sacks. It was herrendous. May be best to keep him at RT where somehow he has excelled very well.
I recall that well, but in fairness, I do believe Warren McClendon is a different player today then he was in 2024. However, with that being posted, he played RT at Georgia and IMO, is better at RT so I concur with your assessment.

No I get that I should say his development as a useful backup/spot starter/2nd QB.

I think people could read what I said as overall development or just ability to read defenses, have appropriate footwork, etc...

Take the pass to CJ in the end zone. That's a pass where his arm talent won't allow him to make that throw probably 1/2 the time he attempts it. Working on his footwork, not drifting back, etc will allow him to consistently hit a throw like that.

A QB with a stronger arm wouldn't have to worry so much about having his feet set or even drifting which will take time and reps to improve upon and may be able to hit that throw 2/3 of the time or maybe even more. So superior physical gifts could allow them to develop faster as a useful spot starter/backup cause it's easier to cover up those growing pains while learning other aspects of football. The QB will just probably have a shorter timeline to providing gameday value or as I meant to put it develop into a gameday useful player.

A QB with other physical gifts just helps even more when you consider rushing, escapability, height etc... It makes the mistakes that come with development loom less large and their ability to produce come that much faster.

Just based on comments from all three players, between Mumpfield last year and now Daniels, would seem that Adams is a good mentor to young receivers ... they seek him out; and he responds well.

Similar to the Mentor Role @RamFan503 provides . When I am unsure what to do, I seek his opinion ... then

WR depth is looking decent with Mumpfield taking a step and most likely backing up Davante. Whit prob is most likely to backup Puka and Daniel's probably spends almost all his time as a big slot (and prob splitting that with a platoon of Puka/Davante) when Fergy isn't there.

I believe you that he was very bad that game. However, he wasn't ready to start at RT then either. Could it be that he's improved, overall?

Problem with that calculus is the two gifts that Simpson provides and what separates him from the pack is his ability to process plays, anticipate the opening in addition to his leadership ability.
