BY has been mentioned a lot recently. And Kinchens by Lake.
I’m seeing Kinchens as well. I liked the pick and he has been evolving the way I thought he would. This guy has a nose for the ball and is a heavy hitter. I know I’m old school, but those are the two qualities I look for in a safety. Coverage is third because if he is being called into coverage based on formation, then it’s likely the opponent is passing. Cue the pass rush in these situations.

I just don’t believe you have an adequate defense if you know the situation and lose more than you win.

Edit:
Ok. I just got caught up with the forum and saw it WAS Kinchens. Good. The problem is he has been demoted to Safety3.
Unless the Rams are running nickel, he’s on the bench.

So they picked him because he could play good football? What a novel idea.
And for some reason the rest of the league’s FO’s can’t fathom what the Rams are doing. Are the Rams a collection of geniuses, or are the other teams lazy and dependent on stats and AI to tell them what’s good?

There's no way Jimmy G is back on this team as a backup. Only way that happens is if Stafford gets injured and he's coming in as a starter imo. They have $15 million in cap space and if AD is coming back they will need every bit of that to fit him on the roster. Even with out AD they need breathing room throughout season so they need to have cheap backup talent where they can get it.
Yes that could be true as well. It'll be interesting to see how they structure paying AD if he comes back. Maybe JG will want a free ring if AD joins up lol....I'm honestly just throwing random discussion out there for discussion's sake by the way.

Isn't tomorrow the day a couple of "experts" predicted for the Aaron Donald announcement?

I'm not saying we'll get an absurd return for him so no idea why no one would trade for him if Bennett ultimately isn't in the Rams long term plans and they somehow are convinced they can get JG back for the #2 role..... what if there's an injury to a QB that runs a McVay type offense? The attraction would be a QB that has a shorter learning curve with team being limited before the season starts. Its not outta the realm for the Rams to get a late round pick.
Think it thru, if a team wanted a guy from the McVay tree, why trade for a borderline bust in Bennett when they can sign JG to a FA deal? He has no trade value

Yeah but maybe JG only wants to sign with certain teams. Didn't he pretty much get strong interest from the Cards to only turn them away. Also he's on the older side so Bennett is much younger than him. If Bennett balls out in the preseason, it wouldn't surprise me if some team offers a really low pick to get him. Low risk but we'll see. I personally hope we dupe some team but I highly doubt he'd warrant anything more than a 6th to 7th round pick. Snead loves them 6th rounders lol

What do you think the chances are we can trade him for a 7th?

Have the Rams anticipated the 13 package "copy cat" by the league for the'26 season, and now have groomed their safeties in order to contest that move?
No, I don't think it's a factor. I don't think we've been particularly innovative with our safety stuff we just happen to be one of many teams using a big nickel (Lake) and a safety to play dime-backer (McCullough).

Also, while I think some teams will play more 13 most won't have the horses to do it. We will see an uptick in 12 though.

Why evidence do you have that he's been demoted?

Yeah, Kinchens has always been safety "3." Basically, it's usually but not always been Lake and Curl playing 2-high in base and then Kinchens and Curl playing 2-high in nickel and dime with Lake playing big nickel.

@fanotodd it's not so much "unless rams are running nickel" he's on the bench, Rams run nickel and dime and barely run base so he's mostly a starter.

Base is for losers who lived in the town from Footloose who didn't dance.

People play it very little (there's been a slight uptick lately) and it will never be the predominate defensive alignment in football ever again.
