I'm more then welcoming him as a backup this year, particularly at that vet min. Think Cousins also have to be in consideration. Solid back up, vet min.
I can see Murray being a possibility. Not Cousins, though. I'm sure they'd opt for continuity with Garoppolo over him.

Should be Addressed not Addressing then, so never thought of it that way
Well they signed the contracts yesterday. Was this post before or after that?
Edit: yeah, not too long after that they posted 3 posts. One for the official beginning of the 2026 season, one welcoming McDuffie, and one welcoming Watson.

I'm not sure which one I prefer as a backup Murray or Jimmy G. Jimmy G is probably more reliable but Murray would would be the more dynamic option as a stopgap if Stafford retires after next year.

Ultimately for this year, Murray would also give us more cap space since he'll be signing for the vet minimum and Jimmy G would likely expect around the same payday as last year. I'd be shocked if we didn't at least explore the option.

Gotta figure Murray would rather START in Minny than SIT in L.A..

He also stated that he is exploring back up options that would help his career after this season. No better option then us for that. If he goes to the Vikes and doesn't win the starting gig, he is not going to get a big payday in '27. If he comes here and learns for a year, a starting contract is more likely and, potentially, he could start for us the following season.

And quite possibly a good compensation draft pick if he is not resigned.

I like the idea here now of Kyler over Jimmy G. It's all up to him though. If he wants to do the "QB rehab" route a la Darnold/Mayfield he should do it. He's cheaper for us than Garoppolo and quite possibly higher upside if forced to play. I'm all in on this now.

Its funny how some are set against Murray as an option, but were happy with Garoppolo as the #2
JG was virtually Kyler Murray a couple years back, his work ethic was questioned, his desires off the field seemed to be priority and he was cut from a big contract

Maybe this is also "baked in" to the Kingsbury hire??? Admittedly, just spitballin here.....

Do we actually know what Kingsbury and Kylers relationship is like? Kyler became Call of Duty Kyler when Kliff was the head coach, which ultimately led to his firing…

I would not be the least bit surprised if Kliff told McSnead to stay away

Hey! No politics!

Definite possibility. Fully on the table.
