The Minnesota Vikings are quietly exploring an exit strategy for 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy, according to multiple league sources. That’s just one of several league-shaking rumors emerging from the Combine, where contract standoffs and planned spending sprees are setting the stage for a chaotic offseason.

The consensus opinion here at the Combine is that the Vikings are in the market for a new starting quarterback. In fact, a source tells me the team is really down on quarterback J.J. McCarthy and is ready to move on from their 2024 first-round pick. The team will bring in another signal caller to compete and eventually replace McCarthy.

Speculation about the quarterback’s future with the organization has been rampant since the end of the season, his second disappointing year with the Vikings.

After a rookie season spent on injured reserve, he played in just 10 games in 2025 after dealing with a high-ankle sprain and other ailments. He completed under 60% of his passes and threw 11 TDs and 12 interceptions.

Update on Warren McClendon Jr.

The Los Angeles Rams continue to express an interest in signing right tackle Warren McClendon Jr. to a contract extension, though it may take a little longer than expected. Sources tell me that the organization has to make a decision on Matthew Stafford, whose contract runs through the 2026 season, like McClendon, before coming up with something firm for their fifth-round pick from the 2023 draft.

The Rams need to be careful. If they wait too long, McClendon could cost them a lot more money because his value and appeal to other teams will take off, assuming he has a good season in 2026.
Good problem to have. Still can draft or sign another back up OT. But not an immediate need.

Could JJ be a good reclamation project, sitting behind Stafford for a few years?

Another reason why a Tackle with starting potential is an important need going into this draft.

Tis a bad assumption that the Rams will sign this guy or that if we want to keep him. There are a lot of teams who would be happy to spend THEIR $$ on FAs coming from the Rams.

McClendon earned himself a contract last year. Hope the Rams are prepared to pay it.

Top ten? Jeremiah is reporting that but doesn’t necessarily believe it, right? Please tell me doesn’t think watson is a top ten QB.
Jeremiah does not see him as top 10. Dov is saying this and he's a piece of sh*t aggregator account that steals other people's work and will add a slightly crazy take to get clicks.

Anyone reading this, do yourself a favor and don't follow him.

Being that the guy who made Darnold the reclamation project who everyone talks about wants rid of him, I'd say no. Just another way over drafted kid
Disliked him coming out of the draft because of the way Harbaugh protected him with the run game and took the ball out of his hands so much. And I dislike him even more now as a starter.

It's funny how you have some QBs like JJ who have everything around them in college to win games and he of course goes way too high in the draft despite not having the skills to manage a top performing pass game. Then you have QBs who don't have the run game, protections, etc, and they end up being available way longer in the draft despite being more gifted in that regard. I don't think there's enough evaluation of what was around the QBs in a lot of the media takes.

Looking at all the combine talk about arm length in these OTs, made me want to look at McClendon's numbers. He does have long arms... 34.5". So it makes sense that maybe he has overachieved a bit. That is a big help. Hearing some talking heads state that 33.5" is the threshold, and he well exceeds that. Fano is sub 33" as are a few other OTs higher rated OTs in this class.

Also 10" hands is very good.

BTW, Alaric Jackson's Combine numbers not as good as McClendon's in terms of arm length & hand size, despite being a bigger dude.

They mean the massage parlors in Cleveland are in trouble
haha... one thing that absolutely irks me about talking heads with the NFL is that no one will touch the massage story as a possible reason why the wheels fell off on Watson. Is it a worry of getting sued? Everyone will talk about the injuries but even prior to that you could see that he was mentally shot while playing, not seeing things, not processing like before, not confident.

The addiction that kept his anxiety at bay was gone (assuming he stopped) and I doubt he was getting any psychological help to replace it. Sad that they can't openly talk about it.

Watson should just retire and buy a house in Thailand and get all the massages he wants. He could live the rest of his life on the beach as an expac with that paycheck he's already got. Lot of pervs end up there as paying for sex is not really viewed as a problem.

He could buy one of the bars too. I don't know why he's still hanging around in the US, I mean it's gonna be a tough life to be branded a perv as a celeb. So lean into it I suppose. South America also has some great spots, though some of them are quite dangerous. Asia tends to be a lot safer.

That’s funny, but I remember with The Rams and Williams some how THE BIRD was Flying at a coach accross the FIELD!!

If I recall it might have been when Drew Brees & Asshole Face beat The Rams.IMO it was a 2nd half adjustment,or a late in the game play call just to RUB IT in that he knew what Williams was going to call. —If I recall it was Asshole Face flipping The Rams(Williams) off after The TD.

I couldn’t find it &this was it ? Don’t think it was Mcvays team, but Fisher ?? There’s no way he did it to Wade, but maybe Raheem.Morris might have been a bigger news & think Brees was still the QB ?
