The dude who should have a good chance to fall to us is Reese. This is because the position he thinks he plays is one he's a complete project in. But if Styles gets anywhere near us, I expect the Rams will jump for him.

I've seen talk of Bain falling because of his short arms

If Bain falls to #13, take him without hesitation and deal one of Agent Zero or V8. He just knows how to rush the passer. I don't care how short his arms are; he's that talented. Even if his arms are like this guy's:

I'd trade up (within reason) if he were to reach #10

Kind of like my point about Donald.

If you dominate in college, you're probably going to be at least very good in the pros or even better once you get NFL conditioning.

The irony about that? AD was taken at #13 the last time we were at that spot in the draft.

Imagine getting AD, but as an edge rusher. :D

Yes and I get some teams not wanting to take an Edge with short arms. Also this class is quite nice in round 2 at Edge so if you're picking top ten you can come back in round 2 and make the Edge selection and get a non-flagged option who can help you.

But again I'd take at least five of these guys before Reese. Bain's one of them. Reese defining himself as an Edge is a problem for me. I think when you look at him as an Edge, he's not a top ten player. And for any team who takes him, they'd better hope their DC has a strong plan in place to use him the way Patricia did. If not that shit might go south real quicklike and in a hurry.

The trade would be Young as he's in the last year of his deal and is older. Would MUCH rather have Bain/Verse at edge then last year of an older Young/Bain. And, we could probably get a 2nd for Young (hopefullY) where we could potentially grab a WR like Boston/Bell/Bernard, LB like Rodriguez, a CB like Ponds, a WR/TE like Stowers, etc. Drafting Bain could be ludicrous for us.

I would take Bain in a second if he’s at 13 and light it up!

The arm length issue is way overplayed and dumb. The dude dominated in college - against top dudes. He killed it in the playoffs and against Indiana.
His ability to fight off NFL's legal holding is why his short arms are a problem. He comes into the league with a huge disadvantage.

FWIW, front seven arm length has not been a deal breaker stat for the Rams:

Proof? The Rams traded up for both Braden Fiske and Ty Hamilton, both with short arms, Fiske with historically short arms. Also, Josiah Stewart has short arms/span. Their relative level of success is probably sufficient for the Rams to not abandon this philosophy.

Data:

Edit: Oh. 1/8" shorter than Fiske . . . .but longer span!

I don't think it's overplayed and dumb. If he has success with those arms he'll be the first to do it in the NFL, maybe the 2nd.

That's the definition of an outlier.

That being said, hard to pass on him if he's there at 13 with what's on tape.

Would not deal Verse, that's just insane.

That's why his brute strength plays a more pivotal role in him overcoming that. The trenches are all about overpowering the opposition. He's shown to be pretty consistent in that manner.

My preference would be to not deal him either, but it would be between one of him or Agent Zero if we took Bain at #13; we're obviously not dealing Stewart, and Bain would need the playing time.

Though I think Fiske's short arms have certainly kept him from having a larger impact.

Think Bain though has far more going for him than Fiske. I'd be quite happy with him if he falls to us, take the swing at 13, I think he's got a high floor. I wouldn't even trade anyone on the line. Just have the DL come at them in waves and if Bain is good you let Young walk.

Definitely deal Young in that scenario since you can't pay everyone. Would be awesome to keep everyone but the NFL definitely isn't the MLB. Add in that Yound is closer to 30, then it makes it the smart move to recoup some value for him.
