Maybe they feel they already have a team that can win now. That's what Snead said the approach would be as they went into free agency. The draft is for the future.
Definitely. I mentioned earlier that they must really feel good about the veteran team they're putting on the field, (I know I do)
And from a long-term standpoint I definitely understood the Ty Simpson pick. But I'm like a lot of posters on here and always looking for an exciting rookie that can contribute.
Looks like they're just going best player available, which is a smart draft strategy too. You can never have too much depth, obviously. ;)

They're following their usual pattern of drafting positions with upcoming free agents.

Excepting Bruss, we've done well over the years with our OL scouting. I'll trust the coaches and FO.

"I'M A JOKE TO YOU, AREN'T I?!"

Bobby Evans.

Not that I think Trost is anything close to Evans. Totally different players. Just busting your balls a little. :P

Trost seven year college vet. Lol

Not going to complain about that. Talent is talent, and Trost is very talented. Tough run blocker, was a great pass-protector, even when our line went to shit when Green went down, did his job exceptionally.

Evans was so long ago lol.

Teeechnically, he's the same era (McSnead). Again, just kidding with you, but Evans has to be included with Bruss. I think Trost is different than both; he's more experienced, meaner, and honestly? He's so much better than Evans ever was.

gonna be a long wait tomorrow barring if they use a 27' pick to move up like they did last year.
I hope not, I am hoping next year's draft is better and we keep our picks. Of course, they could trade the picks for veterans after the draft anyway.

My take is that their approach was very intentional as McVay likes to say. They like their starters and top contributors from last year. Didn't lose many, so not many openings on the roster.

What they did need was depth at OT. Trost gives them that, plus capable of playing all 5 positiobs according to Snead.

They definitely needed another QB with starting ability since Jimmy is apparently gone. In this instance in particular, a future starter, to finally get that guy in the building.

Then it's clear McVay likes his 13 personnel, so they will keep 5 TEs on the active roster. All 5 are flexible in regards to pass catching & blocking. Need 5 because if you get some injuries then he has to junk that system.

I would think part of the attraction to 13 is it also helps keep Stafford upright. Keeps defenses guessing, better blocking personnel and he doesn't have to hold the ball as long for the most part on those pass patterns.

So they are okay with Whittington & Mumpfield, probably will add a guy late to compete with those guys.

Overall a workmanlike draft. Now, not sure I 100% agree with the approach, but I know nothing compared to those guys.

I do think they sometimes are more concerned with a players floor vs while not being as concerned with a players upside. They want guys that can do the job, high floor guys, but then they miss out on the high upside guys because they want to avoid the higher bust rate, they don't want any surprises. Just my opinion on that.
