Fair enough. Most fans HATED the price paid. And at the time of the trade, most Rams fans didn't know much about Stafford, and sure as hell didn't think he'd bring us a SB win his first year. Stafford was underrated by Rams fans at the time of the trade, no doubt about it. Nobody was speaking of him in reverential tones like we do now.

Trust me-- I remember that Stafford trade thread, and a LOT of posters would gladly eat crow about their initial takes on the trade.
I've followed this board, but I don't believe I posted at the time. I've loved Stafford for years but even I thought it was an overpay, to be honest. He was clearly an upgrade, but the cost seemed hefty to me since I still viewed Goff as a superficially good quarterback...just not an elite one and one who couldn't win enough because of his constant brain farts. The other concern I had was how much did Stafford have left in his tank, especially with all the beatings he endured in Detroit.. Luckily for us, he seemed rejuvenated playing under McVay.

When he looked good he was on par with Mendoza but his team was terrably inconsistent from a bad run game and poor run blocking , less than usual receiver production and inconsistent OL play outside of Proctor.
I'll do a game by game watch. I live in GA so I watched some Bama games. He didn't impress me but i wasn't watching intently.

I was one who hated how much we gave up for Stafford at first. However, I looked at film and was really impressed with Stafford within a week of the draft.

The only thing I was upset about after that is that McVay said bad things about Goff before the trade and when he was traded, I was saying McVay if you kept you’re mouth shut you wouldn’t have had to give so much for Stafford

It’s nerve-wracking that his first and only collegiate season as a starter - or even seeing the field - had all those injuries.

I’m not upset that we picked him. I’m upset because there’s a real possibility we could’ve easily had him elsewhere than #13.
I’m not convinced the Steelers wouldn’t have taken him and AZ is already in a contract dispute with Brissett. (Allegedly)

Snead and McVay thought enough of Ty to take him when they had the chance.

As of right now Snead has a plan for our future QB.
We’ll have to wait and see if Ty is the solution.

Kinda silly tbh. Alabama OL was terrible and Ponds is a thumper.

Terrible, and yet Proctor just got drafted in the same slot just before Simpson.

Ponds is a thumper. Watch him go to the Hags; it would be a perfect end to the night.

If the Rams didn't take at 13, they DONT get him. Excellent take, and I love the smokescreens.

Memento and I feel the same way about Simpson. He had 3 injuries and two of them worry the crap out of me.

Elbow bursitis- that young. That will probably be an ongoing issue.

And then lower back issues? Again that young. That could also be an ongoing issue.

Hopefully I am wrong. But don’t be surprised if I’m not

My shameless brag is that I mentioned wanting Stafford when the Goff trade rumors started. And I can confirm that I got some push back here lol
I was skeptical. I thought Stafford played hero ball. And he did that first year in the first 10 weeks or so. He had to learn that he didn't have to score on every drive and to just manage a game when being on a good team.

Our backups must be much better than they looked last year. I sure as hell hope so.
Let's hope the coaches know something we didn't see. Dedich was a pleasant surprise but we haven't had many of those concerning offensive lineman coming off the bench. Right tackle McLendon is also an amazing pick for a 5th rounder.

I'm comforted knowing Simpson was a 5 star coveted recruit who, once he got a chance, was the top QB in the country until injury. This while having a bad line, a terrible running game, and the most drops in the SEC. Now he has Puka and a great OL and running game.
And he will sit in games for 1-2 years while learning in practice.

WIN-WIN.
