You act like any guy they picked at 13 would for sure be a stud. There's a decent chance whomever was picked would be a bust...or disappointment. Nobody knows which of these 32 guys (or picks 2nd - 7th round) will turn out to be successful....nor have an immediate impact.

Further, rookies do not usually make the difference on a Super Bowl team. It's very rare. Especially on a team like the Rams that do not have a whole anywhere for them to start. They are drafting a backup regardless. Granted that position player backup is likely going to contribute this year some (if he pans out)....but nowhere immediately. Even Love would be behind Williams. Styles maybe, but even he would need to beat out the starter.

You know who will make the biggest difference on the field in 2026 from the 1st round picks? McDuffie. Nobody else will come close.
Like I said, it goes without saying that you're not going to hit with every pick. However, as a professional general manager in the NFL, you're expected to draft well and I literally gave you the list of Les Snead's top draft picks in recent years and he's clearly been subpar. With all the research and investment that goes into evaluating these prospects, you better hit more than you miss particularly with premium picks. I even suspect Snead himself sees his own shortcomings, which is why he tends to "eff them picks" in trading them away rather than use them to make selections.

While he's done well with that so far in regards to trade, that usually doesn't always work out. He's also the one who traded away a first-round pick for Brandin Cook. He arguably overpaid for Jalen Ramsey and Matt Stafford, respectively, which anyone can do. Generally speaking, even with the expected misses, the draft is the most cost-efficient and effective way to build a team. Free agents are to supplement that construction. That's common knowledge and standard practice, so missing on premium picks consistently also means squandering opportunities.

I'm actually arguing the guy that the Rams picked at 13th overall isn't a stud, but I can confidently say that there will be plenty of players taken after Simpson who will be better than him. And now we hear that Snead had a personal relationship with Simpson's dad. Seriously, I don't understand why some of you insist on only seeing the positive or being yes-man to everything when most everything else benefits from constructive criticism whether that's personal development or team. Otherwise, let's just draft Drew Allar and once he puts on a Rams uniform, let's just keep cheering him on and not point out any of his mechanical flaws. Why did we change the team's logo from the penis-nose iteration? It was designed and approved by the Rams in-house team. Seriously, some of you are acting like McVay and Snead are above any criticism whatsoever.

Simpson better work out as I said before. It's inexcusable for Snead to put personal relationships above the team's best interests.
McVay is the type of coach where you don't have to hit on every pick. He's that good. Buys a team room for error basically. So even if Simpson wilts under McVay when he gets his look, the Rams will replace him and move on. Or relegate him to the backup role and take another QB via whatever means.

This is the coach who had an irritatingly unstoppable offense that would nickle and dime your ass to death in Washington with Cousins as his trigger man. He damn near won a title with Goff, who many thought was a bust before he came aboard. Simpson just won the lottery being taken by him.

If the price of keeping McVay around is his "toy" this year being a QB he can pour into on the depth chart behind Stafford, so be it. Whether he hits or misses will be determined down the road and that will also tell us whether he was worthy of that pick range.

Wonder how far McCoy is going to fall. His medicals obviously scared the shit outta teams.
I'm curious to that myself. I saw a mock draft for Round 2 at CBS Sports and they had him as one of the very early (second or third) picks in that round. I can see a team with extra picks taking him, but I don't think he'll go high even then despite his talent. He could arguably be an immediate contributor but it will likely be for a short-term before an extended absence, which assumes he won't need surgery immediately to address his condition. Purely from a personal projection standpoint, I anticipate that he'll likely go in the middle part of the second round or early third round.

That's true but McVay was sold on Simpson by Snead. Just like he was sold on Goff. We can afford to take some misses to keep McVay happy, but only up to a point. If he keeps failing year in and year out, like he did with Goff, then that's likely a different story. If there was no Stafford available to trade for, we'd be having a different discussion. However, the Rams and McVay are afforded more leeway as there's talk that Joe Burrow may eventually leave Cincinnati with open arms waiting for him in L.A. McVay even openly tried to recruit Kirk Cousins in an interview (jokingly or not).

But missing on picks and or opportunities only hurts McVay's efforts. So he would have to be saved from himself, but I don't think it will come to that. Snead and McVay have stated that they are different from each other, which they say balances out their relationship for the good. If we keep missing, I'm arguing we'd be better off finding another collaborator for McVay. This again coming from the guy who has been loyal to Snead when most others on this board weren't in the wake of the Fisher firing. Funny how things change.

The team may be favorites to win it all for 2027 but that's obviously not a guarantee. We lost this past season because we couldn't tackle, our Special Teams unit was utter crap and our secondary was Swiss cheese. To his credit, Snead soundly addressed the secondary but tackling opponents has been a long-standing problem for this team since the Fisher era and continuing on into the McVay one, so it's not like this team is above improvement.

Don't know aout that...I loved it.
My dad is from Detroit and the Lions are about my third favorite team so I've seen him play quite a bit. I wasn't a bit surprised when Stafford took us to the Super Bowl. I won't be crazy surprised when he does it again.
I think he's Hall of Fame worthy.

Still thinking this was a horrible pick that's gonna bite us in the ass later. Hoping I'm wrong since we passed up some quality players for a delevopmental QB. Go Ty hahaha
Developmental QB, LOL. Tell us you don't know the meaning of Developmental QB without telling us you don't know the meaning of Developmental QB.

First round quarterbacks are such a crap shoot anyway.
Teams constantly take quarterbacks too early because they're dreaming of what *could* *possibly* be even though they don't have the team around that rookie to make it work - yet they force him to start anyway and it basically can ruin a career.
There are some quarterbacks that don't start blossoming until they're 25 or over, or whatever age because everybody develops at a different rate.
With Ty Simpson?
A team would have grabbed him in the first round, there's no doubt in my mind and we don't have to force him out on the field and put a bunch of pressure and weight on his shoulders. He's going to learn from Stafford and McVay how to be a pro and Stafford and McVay and Snead all know what a good quarterback looks like. So he's their man and I'm good with it. Even in an all in year you have to build for the future or you are going to go flat for 4 or 5 years. The best way to go flat for 4 or 5 years is to not have a quarterback ready to step in. Now I believe we're going to have one. It's really a perfect situation in my opinion.

Lots of time left today & tomorrow (and UDFA Sunday lol--A-Jax was a UDFA) to address these problems.
Secondary - check
Special teams - new coach, rnds 6 & 7 & UDFA
Tackling - really need to get a coverage ILB today.

So then Mahomes was a developmental QB since he sat for a year behind a lesser QB in Smith.
If you sit then yes. He developed into a dope ass QB though with that coaching staff. Its not like he sat there not developing lol. I'm not even saying Simpson can't develop into a good one but I'm guessing he won't. I hope I'm dead wrong though although I'm sure that answer may not satisfy everyone so
