Well, by definition, Limmer is now a veteran.
I suspect the Rams will re visit the Avila or Jackson at C option with the other taking the LG spot and Limmer providing depth.
I think Limmer will be back at center and be better. He was decent as a rookie and there's no reason he won't improve.

We need a Vet Center for next 2 years.!Limmer did well as he could, but not 100% ready for it.
I agree. His pass pro was suspect. I don’t know if he’s learned from mistakes or not but his gaffe in the playoffs was huge.

I know some here blame Dotson for that mistake but I asked my friend who coaches offensive line at the local college and my son who played through high school. They both said the same thing. In that play the Right guards job is to help the right tackle with the possible inside rush. If not the End gets a beeline to the QB. The center needed to man up on Carter and not try to help Avila.

That’s a huge mistake to make after nearly a full season.

How about a 1st Young and Kupp
Rams would not do that to Kupp, who has earned that veteran respect where he will have impact on where he ends up. I don't think that was written into his contract, but the Rams will try to honor his wishes and I doubt he is willing to go to Cleveland.

Thanks for the explanation. It was pretty evident in the video as Limmer gave Carter a quick chuck and then went to triple team with Hav and Dot (unless someone rushed from wide 1). Was he expecting Avila who was fully engaged and took a hard step left to assist? That’s what it looked like to me on the replay.

It looked like Limmer just missed the assignment. Unless Stafford called the protection differently.

The Right guard helping the Right tackle on that play is how it’s supposed to go.

On the 3rd down play, it was miscommunication. Dotson tapped Limmer to let him know he (Limmer) was responsible for Carter right as Limmer turned to double with Avila. It's clear by the time Limmer registered the tap, it was too late. Personally, I don't know why they weren't double-teaming Carter there. He's Philly's best OL. So I'll put it on both of them. But my guess is Limmer is more at fault. He should have communicated what he was doing to Dotson.

It's not that simple. It's the NFL; and you are giving Dotson too much of a pass here.

Only one rusher was to Carter's left, rushing the Rams right side; and he did not come inside at all.
Havenstein was in good position, and it was a quick pass play.

Dotson could have, and SHOULD have, looked both ways. All he (or Limmer) needed to do was get in front of Carter. That well could have beeen enough time. Dotson has to have his head on a swivel.

Consider who Carter is. An elite DL ... the Eagles' best defender ... and Limmer AND Dotson let him run free.

Aaron Donald did a Chris Long podcast; and was asked who he hated playing against the most and why.
Donald answered the Eagles because on every snap, Jason Kelce went to double-team him.
Donald would yell at Kelce that he had good guards ... why not let them block him one-on-one some times.
Kelce responded ... 'We are not going to let YOU take-over the game'.

Imagine at a critical moment, a Rams' opponent not even trying to block Donald, allowing him a free run.

It's absurd. Yet, that's exactly what the Rams did with Carter. Neither Limmer, NOR Dotson deserve a pass.

I have watched that 3rd down play dozens of times. It haunts me.

It is that simple. Standard pass blocking in that alignment. All Limmer needed to do was slow Carter down. Avila didn’t need any help.

Neither did Havenstein.

BOTH Dotson AND Limmer allowed an elite D-Lineman a free run at the QB.
Dotson’s job was to prevent the inside rush from the end. I explained it. If the end gets by Rob with an inside move he had a straight shot at Stafford on the inside. Limmer’s responsibility was Carter. Once Dotson checks Robs guy he could go back to help Limmer.

You may not accept it but you are incorrect. That’s what I thought as soon as I saw the play and it’s been confirmed to me by two people that know pass blocking protections.

Dotson’s job was to prevent the inside rush from the end.
So, his 'job' was essentially double-team a lesser player further-away from the QB ... SHOULD he come inside!?!

Just think about it.

An NFL Right Guard can adjust for multiple possibilities.

The end never came inside.

I explained it.
Not correctly

If the end gets by Rob with an inside move he had a straight shot at Stafford on the inside.
Even if the end goes inside ... which he did not ... all Havenstein needs to do is get a body on him; and Stafford probably has enough time. THE INSIDE rusher (Jalen Carter) had the free-run / straight-shot ... and ... he had the SHORTER DISTANCE to Stafford.

Just think about it.

Limmer’s responsibility was Carter.
You don't know that.

No. Once Dotson sees that Carter ... the INSIDE guy, with the SHORTER distance to the QB is being blocked by Limmer ... THEN he can look to his right to possibly help on the outside rusher ... who already had a blocker (Havenstein) on him.

You may not accept it but you are incorrect.
Respectfully disagree.

Sorry man but I think this is the whole key to how strongly you seem to feel about this.

Your 'son who played high school football'
That's great. Half of us played high school football.

And a 'friend that coaches at the local college level'
Again, that's great. The NFL is a significantly higher level.

Bill Belichick was on the Pat McAfee show and specifically referenced the fuck-up by the Rams' Center and Right Guard, allowing a star-DL a free run. He did NOT assume it was all on the Center based on 'simple pass blocking assignments'.

In addition, my wife's second cousin played back-up Fullback at Viginia Tech when Markus Vick was the QB.
He then was a high school coach; and, later an OC at the college level ... THAT IS ALL TRUE.
AND ... He tells me your son and friend are No-nothing Poopy Heads! ... THAT IS NOT TRUE

Last word ... on this thread / this topic ... is yours.

I’ll take a college Oline coaches word for it over yours. I’ll take my sons as well.

Guess I need a little more information here.

Aubrey Pleasant's title was Assistant Head Coach and Pass-Game Coordinator.
It's a typo. He's the pass rush coordinator.

Well, they certainly can pressure the quarterback with their defensive front. But they do need help on the back end.
