That's a very good point.

Minshew did more with less.
Minshew's 2019 season with Jax rivals any season Lawrence has had.
IMO this all falls back on the Giants, they really screwed the pooch with that horrible Jones contract.
They were chasing ghosts there and could have paid him half and he wouldnt have gotten a better deal elsewhere.
Then they roll the dice on Saquon, who at least proved he could be elite, and he bolts to their hated rival.

Amazing that a player that's so good is on his 4th team in 6 years. Wonder how nobody wants somebody that's so great statistically.
Clearly teams want him since he's been traded for and gotten a sweet contract in free agency
If teams didnt want him, I'd think he'd still be a free agent?

It’s when you have mental midgets that are all about hype rather than on the field production. That’s a leading cause in cases like this.

This is why execs get booted out the league.

Dude if I was them I would of franchised him and they could have picked up a QB this draft and been perfectly set up to build around him.

Minshew’s biggest obstacle has been perception. He has never been looked at as “the guy”, merely a stopgap or fill in/backup. He’s played well wherever he’s played.

As for lawrence, he shows a lot of ability and promise, but he’s got to cut down on those red zone turnovers. I’ve seen him make some brutal mistakes down there. This going to be be a big year for him. He needs to play more consistently.

OTOH, minshew will spend yet another year filling in on a bad team, trying to keep them respectable. I really was hoping the Rams would sign him as a backup this year, but the raiders inked him to second level starter $$. He’s played worthy of that.

In defense of Trevor Lawrence… he has had 3 seasons with more yards than Minchew’s career best (3,300yds).

To butt in the conversation Gardner vs. Lawerence stats are practically the same.

One is a 55 million QB the other a 25 million a year QB.

I’d rather have Minshew tbh.

Daniel Jones Comparison.

Dak is more proven than Lawrence. Plus Lawrence’s first year was with Urban. It’s a tough comparison. Compare Dak to Lawrence or Daniel Jones. He’s better than both.

Dallas and San Francisco are in the same boat. Their quarterbacks are not elite but they'll have to pay them elite money. Sure, they can be pretty good if they have the offensive line, running backs and receivers. But they cannot make up for any shortcomings in those areas.

We might see Dak's play decline this year. The running back situation isn't good. The line isn't what it used to be. After Lamb they don't have much at receiver. Wouldn't be surprised if Dallas doesn't reach double digit win total.

Purdy still has high level skill talent around him, so he should be able to continue to play at a good level. At least on paper he has elite talent. But it sure looks like Deebo's best days are behind him. McCaffrey's at the age where heavily used backs start to decline. Kittle's 31 years old. Aiyuk might get signed eventually. But he might miss a few games before it happens. Its gonna be tough for them to repeat last year's performances.

I think Dallas is going to have a very good offensive line this year. I also think Dak is a top 10 QB in the league. I don’t pin all of his playoff troubles on him. That entire team collapses against top competition.

Minshew is a good backup or vet bridge. He's never proven to be anything more.

Lawrence had a disaster of a rookie season under Urban but has shown flashes since and has put some good performances out there. Is his contract too much? Maybe but since when has the NFL not gambled on talent and potential? In no world is Minshew as physically talented as Lawrence but in the NFL lesser talents are capable of putting up those kind of numbers if they are try hard effort guys.

But there are multiple reasons why Minshew is on his 4th team. It sll comes down to teams will go with the high upside guy every time. And next year so will the Raiders, if the dont sign Dak though that also leads Minshew to another team yet again.

He's a good enough backup or bridge that's all he ever is or will be.

Disagree.
2 for 25 is a guy you plan on starting
He’s like the modern day Rich Gannon IMO

But back on topic, I’d much rather have Minshew for 12.5 and a re-signed Lamb & Parsons with cash to spare

$12.5 million is a guy you plan on keeping around at QB? With money QB's are getting his contract is showing value? OK as happens sometimes we'll have to agree to disagree. He's 22nd on QB's for cap hit this year behind last years top 2 picks and barely ahead of the guy who he kept the seat warm for last year in Indy. This seems similar to our discussion about valuing AJ though so I think I and others have derailed this thread about transactions enough with Minshew talk.

That sounds like the time the eagles signed some career backup for $7m a year and the Nimrods at espn began saying the eagles were going to start him over Bradford. Completely ignoring the fact they had paid $20m for Sammy boy.

Of course the plan was to trade Bradford and start wentz. It was just funny listening to those bozos talking up the career backup because they had a clear agenda against Sammy boy.

NFL teams have demonstrated they will pay for upside at QB, which is what you get with Lawrence. He has enormous upside if and when he puts shit together. I think it's a bad practice but teams are that desperate for quarterbacking.

Worst thing you can do in today's league, IMO, is pay a mediocre QB. You are better off going from one unproven guy to another until you hit on one who can play at a high level than paying some mediocre bastard a huge chunk of your cap.
