A lot of people tend to forget about this part of it. Just assuming that with more cap we can do more in the end it's not much of a change. Other teams get it and can spend more. Free agents know there's a little bit more and can ask for more. It's all a wash in the game that is cap management imo.

Yep, the cap increase doesn't really increase future buying power overall. Every team still has the same number of players they have to fit under the cap. The pie is bigger but it still has to be split into 53 pieces or whatever the current # is. The main thing it does is help alleviate the pressure from older contracts today. Matthew Stafford's $49.5 million cap hit hurts a little less today than it did yesterday as an example.

Either way, my first priority remains getting Dotson under contract before free agency and this helps their ability to do that today.

Watched him quite a bit at Ohio State and believe in his ability. In Chicago, IMO, he has not had proper coaching been through a couple of OC's and Head Coaches too. I just think heading back to Georgia & being teamed with Zac Robinson would be a situation he could thrive in.

Having receivers running routes into each other hasn't helped...

You know ... to be honest ... there was a part of me that was hoping I was missing something; and posters like you, or @dieterbrock would point-out how this larger-than-expected cap increase would greatly benefit the Rams more than other teams.

I think there's probably some edge case benefit for teams wanting to pay for a star FA talent which we probably weren't. It might change our strategy that we try to sign someone on the 1st day or 1st wave that we wouldn't have otherwise. We all get more money but the money going up may affect how teams are willing to allocate it.

Maybe he becomes that - if he continues his level of play (for a year or two) that he had the past 10-14 games. But a 27 year old guy who couldn’t crack the starting OL and then comes to another team excelling for the remainder of his FA year. That’s not Top 5 in the NFL. That’s crazy talk.
Now if you mean top 5 OG free agents- that’s a different story. But that doesn’t mean Top 5 NFL OG pay. The Top 5 free agent QBs this year are not all getting $50M

He started 17 games for the Steelers last year. 9 the year before. And 4 the previous year. He started 12 for the Rams this year. That's 42 starts over 4 years. Having said that, though the line played very good after he became a starter, I'm just not convinced (as you aren't either) that he's the real deal. Some guys need a fire lit under their ass to perform well. Pittsburgh obviously didn't think he was good enough and signed Seumalo to replace him. The problem with guys who need a fire lit (and I'm also not sure he's one of those) can let the fire go out once they're paid.

He lost his job because they signed Seumalo in the off season. He started EVERY game for Pittsburgh in 2022 (30 total in 3 years). So the statement, "a guy who couldn't crack the starting OL..." is inaccurate.

Huh? Was he a 2023 starter for them? No - he was a backup. Many had him 3rd string. If you go back to steeler boards and videos at the time of the trade, most were happy to ship him off. They did not like him the year before. They were thrilled to even get some draft comp back for him.

Now fast forward to his performance with the rams and he was great. But it’s revisionist history to say that back at the time of the trade. Again, read or watch steeler info at TC and the trade. They wanted this backup gone. Twist it any way you want. But at 2023 season (not 2022) - he was a backup at best.
