Bad example. AD doesn't willfully try to avoid doing the work. He's blue collar as F.
And you know Barkley does not work hard away from camp? Not sure your point. You said you wouldn’t touch a guy who wants to sit out to avoid the camp work. Weird blanket statement. Maybe you know stuff about Barkley and him actually wanting to not put the hard work in (whether at camp or on his own). I don’t know anything about Barkley. So maybe that’s the case and you know. But if not, it seems odd to make that up without knowledge. Just because a guy isn’t at camp, doesn’t mean he is avoiding the hard work - ala Donald.

Barkley was always the team leader at PSU when it came to workouts. He’s a nice kid. He’s very charitable and well thought of in his home town.

He could have a variety of reasons for holding out. As pointed out, he’s not the first star to do so. I believe aside from AD Orlando Pace did it. I think Dickerson did too. Maybe he’s trying to force a trade because he doesn’t believe in the team and doesn’t want to be there. Maybe Barkley feels he’s simply worth more money. I doubt it is because he doesn’t want to do OTA’s. These things are often agent driven, it doesn’t mean much.

Cook does not seem to be a good fit for where the Rams are now in 2023. Last year’s team or maybe next year. But not 2023.

Agree. The first question for any Rams FA is:
‘Will they fit a need not on roster AFTER the Draft?’ The 2nd question is: ‘Are they in the plans for 2024?’
If the answer is’No’ to either then no to the deal.

This could be a guy we could look to add, only cheaply that is, if we don't go the cheap rookie route. Still has juice so who knows. Wherever he goes, think he'll still be a legit running back.
How? Cook has a 2023 Base Salary of $10.4M.

Cooks is rumored to possibly be cut. 2023 salary means nothing if he is. Do I think we'd take a look? Yes, but if I was pressed for an answer if he'd sign, probably not as I can see him drawing interest. I think the guy still has some juice (better than Cam to me) so wherever he goes, he'll be a nice add.

OK. However, even though veteran RBs don't get paid big-$, I don't see Cooks signing cheaply.
Damn you answered too fast as I already answered that part after editing my original response. Curse this brain of mine for not including it the first time! Lol

More than 1,100 rushing yards four straight seasons, with average-per-rush of between 4.4 - 5.0.

I'd say he has some "juice" left. Still, will be 28 ... at a position that does not age well.

Nobody knows. But I think we've got a lot more than most people are letting on. We'll see. The draft is HUGE. EDGE, CB?, TE?, RB? ILB? C? WR? S? OG? Lotsa directions to go, lotsa picks on hand. And then after the dust settles there and those who know better will tell us what they did wrong, then we can hope for a few plugs in post draft free agency.

^^this right here.
Until the Rams actually start procuring players, we have no idea of what they think/expect from those that are still on the roster.

I doubt the draft will ease or change some minds, but at least team evaluations can be based on a better look at a perceived plan.

.

i don't understand the pessimism. last season everyone was proclaiming a repeat but the rams were fucking awful from the opening whistle. even when they won they were unconvincing. didn't take long until dumpster fire season took hold. the last pathetic drive of the tampa game was the nail in the coffin.

nobody knows what's gonna happen. why stress about it? obviously there was a lot of deadwood in the team and action was needed. if they suck again this season so what, they had a good run. i have zero expectations either way. just play some young guys so they're better in 2024.

Yeah, I agree. I think he's ripe for a decent chunk of change upfront, on like a 5 year deal where only the 1st 2-3 years have guaranteed money.
That is *if* he actually gets cut
