With pick 43 of the ROD Draft the Atlanta Falcons select Matt Corral, Quarter Back, Ole Miss

Matt Corral.JPG

Matt Corral is an interesting study. He entered the season as the likely No. 1 overall pick, yet here we are and no one really mentions him in that class anymore. Corral has a really good skill set with arm talent, dangerous running ability, and upside. In 2021, Corral completed 68 percent of his passes for 3,349 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. He rushed for 11 touchdowns and 597 yards as well.

Not afraid to make mistakes, or move past them, Corral has two seasons of starting experience in the SEC, where his teams were frequently among the top-ranked in the nation. There’s no questioning his leadership, or his fit with the NFL. Everyone seems to be looking for a QB who can make all the throws while displaying enough mobility to flee the scene when the bullets fly, Corral can do all that in his sleep.

44) Cleveland Browns @TK42-RAM is on the clock

45) Baltimore Ravens @MadGoat is on deck

I believe you just nailed down a likely mid-1'st round QB.

With Pick 44 of the 2022 ROD DRAFT the Cleveland Browns select ...

Daxton Hill , S , Michigan

dm_220106_DAXTON_HILL_HIGHLIGHTS.jpg

Strengths:
  • Very good nickel cornerback
  • Man-coverage ability on slot receivers
  • Plug-and-play starting nickel corner in the NFL
  • Instinctive
  • Quick
  • Fluid; can flip his hips and run
  • Covers a lot of ground
  • Always around the ball
  • Willing run defender
  • Tough tackler
  • Has some skills
  • Very good at picking up receivers in off-man coverage
  • Versatility
  • Intelligence
  • Plays tough and hard
  • Experienced

Weaknesses:
  • Slim build
  • Could have a hard time avoiding injury in the NFL
  • Could have a hard time holding up as a strong safety, eighth man in the box
  • Lacks size to tackle NFL running backs

Summary: Hill spent the last three seasons as a dependable slot corner for Michigan while contributing as a safety in base sets. In 2019, he recorded 36 tackles, an interception and three passes defended. Hill was highly productive in the shortened 2020 season, notching 45 tackles, one interception and four passes batted. In 2021, Hill came up with some big plays to help Michigan to a Big Ten Championship. The junior finished out the year with 69 tackles, two interceptions and eight passes broken up.

Hill's best trait for the next level is his ability to line up and cover slot receivers. His quickness, flexibility and fluid athleticism allow him to line up at the line of scrimmage or pick up receivers in off-man coverage. Hill will be a real asset to his defense when going against dangerous slot receivers. For nickel, he is a phenomenal cover corner to run the route and prevent separation. He shows good instincts to play the ball and is very active in the middle of the field.

The tape of Hill as a safety is not as impressive compared to when he plays nickel corner. He was decent at safety, but he is a tweener. Hill has the mentality of an aggressive strong safety in the body of a deep free safety. For the NFL, he is not a true rangy deep safety and he lacks the size to be a strong safety.

Hill was a good run defender in college, as his tackle totals suggest. He wraps up well and does a nice job of weaving through blockers. Hill is smart about how he tackles, taking the legs out from underneath backs. Hill is undersized, however, so he could have some issues with power backs. While Hill is tough and aggressive, his slight build could lead to injuries as a pro.

For the NFL, Hill looks like a starting nickel corner who could play some safety in the base defense. Teams are in nickel at least 70 percent of their snaps, and sometimes they play nickel the entire game. Given Hill's limitations at safety, it might make more sense to rest him in base sets to protect him from injury and keep him fresh for his role as the nickel.

Hill could get consideration in the back half of the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He won't get out of the second round, according to some team sources.

Player Comparison: Jimmie Ward. Injuries have also hurt Ward (5-11, 193) in his NFL career, but when healthy, he is a quality safety and nickel corner for San Francisco. Hill is almost identical in size to Ward. While Ward was a safety/corner tweener, Hill is a true nickel who can play some safety. In the NFL, Hill could be a defender who is similar to Ward.

With Pick 47 in the 2022 ROD DRAFT the Washington Commodes select ...

Nicholas Petit-Frere, OL , Ohio State

  • Height: 6’5″
  • Weight: 315 pounds
1296883562.jpg

Ohio State churns through high-level talent at such a high clip that it can take time for even five-star prospects to break out and earn lasting roles. It’s just the nature of one of the NFL’s top producers. The Buckeyes have had at least one offensive lineman selected in each of the last six drafts. They lay claim to players like Taylor Decker, Corey Linsley, Nick Mangold, and LeCharles Bentley.

It took longer than some expected for former top-15 recruit Petit-Frere to become a full-time starter for the Ohio State Buckeyes. But in 2021, he did, and in doing so, took one step closer to his ultimate potential. For NFL coaches, that’s an exciting thought. Here’s a look at Petit-Frere’s scouting report and what kind of upside he carries as he nears the 2022 NFL Draft.

Petit-Frere’s athletic profile

As is the case with most five-star players, Petit-Frere looks the part. He stands around 6’5″, 315 pounds, sporting a well-filled-out frame and great functional length. With that length, Petit-Frere has a wide field of impact. In a similar vein, he employs a strong, wide base, and he can cover a lot of ground with his movements.

Within his frame, Petit-Frere is an exceptional athlete. The Ohio State OT glides as a lateral mover, and he has good recovery athleticism. For his size, he’s fairly light on his feet and incredibly smooth out of his pass sets. His mobility also shows up on run-blocking reps, where he easily covers ground and directs opponents with steady leg drive. His explosive get-off allows him to reach defenders without much delay.

Beyond his mobility and short-range burst, Petit-Frere also has good fluidity and flexibility for his size. He sinks his hips to redirect players, and he’s especially polished flipping his hips upfield.

Additionally, Petit-Frere has the torso flexibility to absorb power while maintaining his balance. He has a stout center of gravity, as well as good lean. He doesn’t often bend at the hips and can bend his knees and flex without issue. Petit-Frere can still get a little bit stronger, but with his length, he has flashed the ability to anchor and gather rushers.

With the 48th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select;
sw.jpg

Sam Williams, EDGE, Mississippi (Sr.), 6'4, 261 lbs.
After going OT with the first pick, the Jaguars now get a pure pass rusher. While his run-stopping ability needs work, he can get to the QB (12.5 sacks, 4 FF in 13 games last year). Athletically, he is elite, having run a 4.46 forty at the Combine.

The Jaguars have also traded a 3rd round pick (No. 65) to Seattle for WR Tyler Lockett.

I thought he might make it to the Saints at pick 49. It's starting to get ugly at OT.

There’s not much left at OT. Abraham Lucas can Pass protect but needs work in the run game and he is probably the best of what’s left. If Pit really need a OT now might be the time to grab one.
