Thats the thing its kind of faux numbers. Essentially its 3 years like 51-53 million. The rams had to be in the ballpark maybe that 3rd year was a problem we will never know.
Yeah I posted that before I saw the actual numbers. Still not sure how they cam up with 6 years at 120 M based on 3 years at 53 M

I am so confused on this contract

I think there may a little OVER-analysis here with regards to Miller's contract numbers.

It really comes-down to how its structured; and the most important factors are guaranteed-$ (which we know), AND how the contract is structured for the 2022 salary-cap-hit (which we do not know).

Two contracts for the exact same number of years, total amount and guaranteed amount can be structured differently to result in completely different cap-hits from year-to-year.

For example, some have stated (including media) that it's essentially three years and $51-53M. OK but that's NOT enough information to tell anyone what the 2022 cap hit for the Bills. Simple math results in $17.5M-per-year. OK, but that's not necessarily how the contract is structured; and I would doubt the Rams are in a position to allocate $17.5M to their 2022 salary cap.

One example for comparison is Noteboom's deal, which is on Spotrac. I will assume it's accurate for illustration. Noteboom signed a three-year / $40M contract. Simple math ... 40 divided by 3 = $13.33M per-year.

Noteboom's 2022 cap hit is NOT $13.33M.
It's a mere $3.5M! Structure and voidable years allow for a low # in 2022.

That's what teams keep saying about us.

The Rams have cleared cap and were prepared to pay Von about $17M per, but likely we wouldn't budge on that guaranteed 3rd year. That's all I can think of.

Yup. That's why I don't pay attention to contract and cap talk. It's pointless because ultimately doesn't mean anything.

Aaron Donald, Robert Woods, Andrew Whitworth, Todd Gurley, Jared Goff, Jalen Ramsey, Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods again. Now they're looking at Aaron Donald again and Matthew Stafford, maybe OBJ too. You sign your best players, and let them go if they aren't up to par.

God knows the true contract language that allowed the team to unleash their bean counters to make all this work. I'm sure they did more than go to overthecap.com.

The 3 year 53 mill is only in reference to the money which is guaranteed. He can earn more than that with bonuses etc

Miller made a difference for sure, but remember the offense was trouncing the Bucs without Woods. The offense still functioned with only Kupp and Stafford.

If they stay healthy in Stafford’s second year the Rams offense can score enough points the way the defense is constructed. They just have to replace a corner and a cheaper edge would be nice.

I know I had dreams of AD breaking the sack record with Miller at his side but that would have just ben icing on the cake.

There still comes a day when you pay the piper.

Agreed but it's not really relevant to my point.

Some guys have posted that the Rams were willing to go to $17.5M-per on Miller; and now think the Rams have $17.5M to spend on other players. It's probably (almost certainly) not that simple. I don't believe the Rams ever intended to allocate $17.5M of their 2022 Salary Cap to Miller because they could not do so.

All I'm saying is that too often fans think Simple Math when managing the cap, and it's more complicated.

20 mill cap hit for 2022 is a little rough. If they werent giving Miller 20 mill, I cant see giving it to him

They can restructure and his other seasons are so low in salary from what I saw ...he is 27 yrs old so I'm ok with restructuring anyone under 28 but my ok means shit lolol

If Hunter is in fact released before his 18m payout, Rams should be ALL over him. That actually could end up as a better result then if we had resigned Von. Hunter is 4-5 years younger and currently more explosive IMO. He is my wishlist. Just him and I'd be stoked.

Also, if the Vikes are intent to release him if no real trade partner, perhaps they would take something like a 4th-5th rounder rather then getting nothing?

I'm thinking Watson is a 'Aint by the end of the day. Why else would the 'Aints be making all that cap room this morning? Question is, what is the compensation? What players is Houston going to ask for? 'Aints have talent, but not a ton of rookie contract talent that Houston is likely looking for.

Except when it does mean something ...
We wouldn't be discussing the Von Miller fiasco today had our CAP/contract talks worked out in our favor.

Wishlist:
#1 OBJ
Have to get this one done, more so than Von. I've felt that way from the beginning. Beckham's dynamic is huge, as is the chemistry w/Stafford. If it doesn't get done it's not the end all be all, but i don't think Jefferson is ever going to be a #2 and Tutu could be a bad pick. A couple more years w/OBJ and Woods exchanging injuries(lol) buys time.

#2 Veteran help at CB/Safety. I'd be willing to spend here.
Not Patrick Peterson. Last thing this D needs is a cushy soft corner who's old.

#3 Depth at EDGE. I like our young guys. I think they're hungry. Would still like to see some experience added there.
J.Houston is interesting.
