Taylor Rapp is an extra that might be utilized as trade bait to a team that does not flip & switches up its starting safeties. Rapp is a standard NFL strong safety type & does not fit sufficiently in this Ram secondary as a starter.

DC Morris found out that safety Nick Scott can play both deep & upfront in the safety posts. Jordan Fuller is big & tall leaning to be more of a strong safety type too, plus he played much better in 2020 when he played up front much more. Terrell Burgess is more versatile being a better blend of what DC Morris seems to lean too but for some reason, he does not prefer to use Burgess.

DC Morris also has two other Strong Safeties signed in Antoine Brooks Jr.& Jake Gervase. So the SS cadre room is overloaded.

Can both WR TuTu Atwell & Taylor Rapp be elements of assets involved in your prospective trade proposal with Detroit in order to move up?
I felt Rapp could be a trade target, but he won’t save the team much money.

Interesting trade addition which would change our compensation somewhat. It's hard to determine whether Rapp & Atwell were more on Holmes or Snead, although Holmes was already gone when the Rams drafted Atwell.

With only 2 top 150 picks I am guessing this yr he tries to move up a bit to get inside the top 175 with a few more picks. Especially the fact that they have retained enough of their own guys to limit the number of needs and considering last yrs class has a chance to step up this year. Guys like Harris, Rochelle, Garrett, Jackson, Skowronek, and even Atwell could step up.

And I still could see a surprise trade to clear cap room and get a top 150 pick... Maybe Higbee?? Move forward with Blanton, Hopkins, and maybe Mundt or a draft pick?

Higbee as trade bait does make some sense, he would save over $5M off our CAP and likely bring a very decent draft pick. Hard to say how much chemistry exists between he & Stafford, but I did believe Higbee would become a greater impact player for us this past season.

I wouldn't want to leave our TE position quite so vulnerable without a more proven vet though, so I'd prefer to make a free agency play for Tampa Bay's #2 TE, O.J. Howard. With Brady returning, I suspect Gronkowski can't be far behind, and Howard hasn't seen much use. I wouldn't be bringing back Mundt, not with as deep a draft as exists this year for TE's.

Trade Higbee? Yikes.
Well, there is a guy out there I could see the Rams taking a flyer on. Stafford's old buddy Eric Ebron is a FA and has tweeted that his knee is fully back. Wouldnt be a replacement for Higbee, as he's not the best blocker, but he and Staff have some history, so who knows.
Maxx Williams is another guy worth looking at, he can run block with the best of them

Since we both lost our favorite potential #2TE in Njoku, the idea behind trading Higbee in 2022 does seem less appealing. I like O.J. Howard's potential also as a TE2, he's a former 1'st round (19'th overall) draft pick, younger, likely pretty cheap, and been quite under-used behind Gronkowski.
Ebron did have his best pass catching percentage of 71.8% under Stafford back in 2016, although signing him might not offer much in the way of CAP savings.
For the record, I believe if Higbee were to be traded, it likely won't be until 2023.

No to Blanton and Hopkins. I saw enough whiffs in the playoffs to conclude that there would be a significant drop in run blocking. Plus, we don't know how good of route runners and catchers they are. They had some meaningful catches but most of them were layups. Simple, uncontested stick routes and dump offs, and some were double-clutched! We need to see them make deep, contested catches.

Good analysis of the backup TEs.
This is a good draft to get a decent TE. If the Rams want to go that way (and they should imo) then there is no reason to sign one when they are up against the cap.

I mentioned trading Higbee late this past fall because I think they need some fresh blood. But it would create a huge hole, so I’d say keep him.

Not saying its ideal, but could be the difference in keeping Miller and or adding CB depth as well. That might be more important than keeping Higbee and his cap hit.

True, but he could get Snead up further from late in the 3rd rd to the early 3rd rd of this upcoming draft.

I posted yesterday that I would suggest the Rams look very hard @ signing Edge Rusher Dante Fowler Jr. & DL pass rusher Morgan Fox since they were released & would not have any effect on the 2023 compensatory selection awards.

Since then I have pondered about ILB'er Cory Littleton who also was released after his 2 yr stint with the Raiders. The Rams had 3 ILB'er...2 of which were starters in 2021 now involved in FA'cy. Only one has any real chance to return.

CL would bring a veteran existence to the ILB cadre. CL can do several things very well.....he can rush the passer through traffic from inside & also work very well in pass covegreages. Cory just might want to revive his resume that has been soiled by the Black & Silver event. Good chance he would be an Inexpensive Econo sign.

Currently, the Rams have only two ILB'ers signed...... 22 yr old 2021 3rd rd selection Ernest Jones & 25 yr old Christain Rozeboom who saw some action this season but has not started in the NFL. CL would add NFL starting experience to this unit in a reserve capacity.

Everything hinges on what Von Miller does.

Regarding ilb they either like Rozeboom or they’ll sign a cheap option. It’s tough to say either way.

I don’t think Rapp gets Snead higher in round three, even with the swap of third round position.
We see good players traded often enough for 4th-7th round picks for me to think they couldn’t pull it off. Strong safety isn’t often in high demand. But maybe they could get someone like Staley to do it.

This is from RamsDynasty off another board, but I echo his sentiments.

Von Miller is like that flirtatious girlfriend, giggling with every available team. Looks like he was trying to play Rams off Broncos. Denver got tired and went with Gregory instead. Now that the Broncos are no longer an option now the Boys and Browns are in the mix??? He isn't a long time Ram so I ain't mad at him but if I were the Rams I might bring Clowney, Melvin Ingram or Chandler Jones in for a little flirting too. What's good for the goose.

It’s making some of the glowing things that Von said about the Rams coaches and players seem a bit insincere. He ain’t getting this culture or roster in Dallas and most definitely not in Cleveland.

As someone who is not rich but values happiness I can’t understand putting the need for more money, when a guy is worth 40 million already, over happiness. Maybe Von can be happy anywhere, but I bet that if he was in Cleveland next fall he’d be feeling like he made a mistake.
