I did a look up on this kid because his production numbers are eye popping and while I'm not entirely familiar with the Colorado program since they fell off the map, I was expecting to see a pass happy offense.
Boy was I surprised. This kid caught almost 200 for 2250 in the last 2 seasons. But the kicker is that is over 1 third of the production. QBs only had about 300 completions and 3000 yards each season.
I'll keep my eye on this one

I've been on a "hands and route running" kick on WRs for the past couple years but this year especially with all the sorry drops we've seen. Also, Seattle making a living on hands guys with non-explosive measurables makes it even worse. This guy stood out in those two ways like crazy so I think he's got a chance. I'm gonna post up some stuff on him so people can see how smooth he is.

CU football: Nelson Spruce believes his draft value transcends combine
Former Buffs WR confident he be an impact player in the NFL

Quite a catch

Colorado has had several receivers selected in the NFL draft over the years, starting with end Leon Lavington, who was picked by the Chicago Cardinals in 1938. This week, Nelson Spruce will look to become the latest CU receiver to be drafted. Here's a look at the last 10 CU receivers selected:

2014 - Paul Richardson, 2nd round, Seattle

2012 - Toney Clemons, 7th round, Pittsburgh

2011 - Scotty McKnight, 7th round, N.Y. Jets

2006 - Jeremy Bloom, 5th round, Philadelphia

2004 - D.J. Hackett, 5th round, Seattle

1999 - Darrin Chiaverini, 5th round, Cleveland

1998 - Phil Savoy, 7th round, Arizona

1997 - Rae Carruth, 1st round, Carolina

1995 - Michael Westbrook, 1st round, Washington

1994 - Charles Johnson, 1st round, Pittsburgh

By now, if NFL scouts aren't sure if Nelson Spruce can play in their league, he has just one message for them: Watch the film.

"The best thing is to look at my game film," Spruce said. "My last two years at Colorado, I feel like I was one of the most productive receivers in the country.

"In the combine and all of that stuff isn't where I'm really going to excel. I feel like I did as much as I could there, and I was happy with the way it turned out, but I feel like if you go back to my game film, you can see that I know how to play this game. My knowledge of the game and my passion is there."

Spruce is hoping he's done enough to prove himself to the NFL, and he'll find out this week when the NFL draft takes place in Chicago from Thursday through Saturday. Along with cornerback Kenneth Crawley and offensive lineman Stephane Nembot, Spruce is among the Buffs most likely to be drafted.

"Until you get that call, you never know, but I think I'll get my name called in the later rounds," said Spruce, who is 6-foot-1, 206 pounds. "I know on the first and second day, I won't hear my name, but I'm just going to try to stay in my normal routine. I told myself I'm not going to worry about it; we'll see how it goes once the time gets here."

Spruce had a brilliant career at Colorado, setting school-career records for catches (294), receiving yards (3,347) and receiving touchdowns (23). He's also the Pac-12 Conference record holder for career catches.

Before 2014, no CU player had ever caught more than 11 passes in a single game, but Spruce had games of 19, 13 and 13 catches that season.

Spruce made a name for himself at CU as a sure-handed receiver who ran exceptional routes and could be relied upon in clutch situations.

During workouts for NFL scouts, Spruce didn't wow anybody with his speed (4.69 seconds in the 40-yard dash), and he didn't produce exceptional workout numbers. Yet, it's really tough to ignore what he's done on game day.

On Spruce's NFL.com draft profile, an anonymous AFC general manager is quoted as saying, "His production had our area scout over-grading him, but once you get past what he can't do and focus on what he can do you feel better about him as a late-round guy who can help your team."

Spruce is hoping that message has spread across the NFL, because he has the utmost belief in himself to be a productive player in the league.

"Physically I feel like I'm perfect right now," he said. "I like where my weight is at, I'm strong, I'm fast. I'm going to be feeling good physically going into camp. Mentally, I'm just ready to go, as well. I feel really confident that no matter where I get drafted or what team, I'll be able to make an impact. I'm feeling really good and confident."

Spruce has spent most of the offseason working out near his home in Southern California, and recently had a workout for the Los Angeles Rams. During that workout, former USC quarterback Cody Kessler threw passes to him and Spruce said the workout "went really well."

Whether it's the Rams or somebody else that takes him, though, Spruce said he's just eager to prove he can play in the NFL.

"When it comes down to it, I know how to play football," he said. "(Teams) having a real interest in me is kind of surreal almost, but at the same time, it's just the beginning for me. I've always had super high expectations of myself and my dream is being a successful NFL player and having a long career.

"In one way, it's pretty awesome, but at the same time, I really haven't accomplished anything yet."

I don't think anyone of these is going to replace Britt this year. And don't forget, Welker still has a locker with his name on it. Quick, on the other hand is another story. We don't know how Bailey fits in. Can he still do back flips while catching the ball one handed? And can he take a hit? I see Tavon, Britt, Marquez and probably Welker, Cooper and Thomas at WR. There may be 2 spots left. New WR coach so who knows?

If I am an undrafted FA, getting a $5000 signing bonus, I would think twice about spending that and much more for just finding an apartment to live in the LA area. However, maybe Hard Knocks helps offset that.

I wonder if they can make extra money with appearance fees - you know, meet and greet LA Rams defensive back <insert name here> at a car dealer, or a restaurant, or something like that. It's a huge market, so lots of opportunity, and this first year especially I'd think businesses would be going wild to do that.

I'd think the market would be wide open for that.

I'm a bit surprised that the NFL doesn't allow teams to keep a group of apartments rented (at local rent average) for players like that, anyway, until after training camp. I know the local Arena Football team does that here for all its players - they get a discount from a big complex renting out 35-40 apartments at a time.

New Mexico State corner Winston Rose excels at local workout for Los Angeles Rams

New Mexico State cornerback Winston Rose excelled during the Los Angeles Rams’ local prospect workout Saturday in Oxnard, Calif.

Rose met with Rams coach Jeff Fisher afterward and received strong feedback about his performance.

The Rams have Rose’s 40-yard dash time from his campus Pro Day workout at 4.38 seconds.

“The workout went good, Jeff Fisher talked to my mom and I was the only defensive back that was there,” Rose said in a telephone interview following the workout. “I talked to Dennard Wilson, the defensive backs coach, defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and Jeff Fisher and Steve Kazor, their scout, and their special-teams coordinator, John Fassel.

“I told coach Fassel how I was on every special team at New Mexico State. It couldn’t have gone any better. It was very exciting. I was a little nervous. Once I felt comfortable after the first drill, everything was in place. Overall, I felt good with my performance. It was a great day. I feel like that could be home.”

Rose had a 1.5 10-yard split.

Rose played in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl all-star game. Here’s a link to his highlight video

The 5-foot-11, 177-pounder had a 10-3 broad jump and a 36-inch vertical leap at his Pro Day. He bench pressed 225 pounds 10 times.

He had a 32 3/8 arm length, 9 3/8 hands and a 74 1/2 inch wingspan.

Rose had a 11.13 60-yard shuttle and a 6.72 three-cone drill. Those are among the best of any draft prospect.

“My skills, obviously my speed and my athleticism and my overall ball skills,” Rose said. “Winston Rose as a person, I’m going to help a team. I have length and quickness. I want to improve on being consistent.”

Rose intercepted five passes playing for former NFL defensive coordinator Larry Coyer.

“I feel that I’m ready for the next level defensive schemes because I played under Larry Coyer, a NFL Super Bowl coach, which I had my best season at New Mexico State,” Rose said.

Rose majored in individualized study with a minor in business.

“I’d like to go into business, restaurant catering business and give back to youth,” Rose said.

An Inglewood native, Rose excelled on special teams.

“I just want to make the 53-man roster and contribute on special teams and pretty much anything,” Rose said .”I feel ready.”

Rose trains at IX Innovations with Abdul Foster and is represented by Houston-based agent J.D. Ogilvie, a former Utah State football player and Columbia University alumnus. Rose played at Los Angeles Valley Junior College before transferring and was a first-team all-conference selection. He had three interceptions, returning two for touchdowns. He was a first-team all-league wide receiver and defensive back at St. Genevieve High School.

“Winston has everything you look for in a starting cornerback,” Ogilvie said. “From his length, his agility, speed, the numbers he put up at his Pro Day are top tier in every single category. On top of that, he has gained 10 pounds since he’s been out here in Houston. He has the natural skill set of a starting cornerback. He’s going to get a chance to develop his skills and work his way to earning a starting role.”

That awkward moment when Cooper and Randolph are in the same NFL team.

What a lowlife. That's definately someone we need on the team. Ball nowhere near Cooper. Let's just go out and find as many Ray Ray Armstrongs as possible.

I wonder which Rams coach worked Randolf out. Remember hearing about how they found McLeod (not sure if it was Sirius radio or what), it was Coach Cecil who went to a pro day and in every drill he kept noticing McLeod sprinting to the front and playing with his @$$ on fire, which led to them bringing him in.

Randolf is nasty though man. Looks like a GDub type of safety... :D

Had the DB not got his hands on that ball Randolph would have been arriving just as the ball arrived to Cooper.

I just want Spruce to make the team, the guy is a football player.

One noteworthy stat: 3 drops in last 288 targets. He's a longshot, granted, but man that is some sick possession reliability.

Also he is PAC-12's all time leading receiver and that happened with crappy QB's throwing to him.
