IDK, after thinking about it maybe the Giants aren't as pushovers as everyone thought?

Week 1 they gave the Steelers a fight, and damn well could've won that game until Daniel Jones had that INT to Cam Heyward (wtf), almost beat the Bears who also have a decent defense, They only get their ass handed to them by the shitters.

It's certainly possible. Might be one of those teams that had enough talent to compete but not enough to win very much. Obviously Barkley going down hurt big time.

Methinks you guys are right - there's some kinda tip-off with our WR reverses & screens, because the Giants -- the GIANTS -- seemed to be ALL over them.
In 2018, it was the Bears / Lions who exposed the flaws in our O scheme & handed the Cheats the blueprint on how to beat us w/ 6-man fronts. This here Gnats game has that kinda feel.... it feels like we got exposed. I sure hope McVay figures out what it is & fixes it, or just changes things up or something because it looks like our D is legit enough for a deep playoff run.

The difference being In the NFL if you are getting beat in execution you can make up for it in smash mouth attitude.

I was going to say something about the penalties in another thread.

Rams seem much more disciplined this year in terms of penalties compared to last year . On both sides of the ball.

I for one was not too happy with the game. Its a win though.
O line did not run block very well. McVays game plan was not his best effort. Tired of all the screen plays. Defenses sit on them and will only do more of that now. Where were the plays to Higgs ?
Had some QB pressure in the first half but the one where they all got to Jones at the same time was on the Gmen. Zero receivers went out for a pass on that play.
Sick of Kupp recieving punts. He is just there to catch the ball and maybe get hurt doing it. What, you think "that" guy is going to juke 3 dudes and run a long one back ?? He was there for the Rams because he is not very fast. I want a quick twitch guy back there, and a expendable one at that.
McVay is at his best with creating indecision for the defense to deal with. Where were all the roll outs ?
The really good teams will roll us up with this kind of effort.

The play calling really felt like the other games coach play called and lost the game. Running game weak and pass pro weak. No adjustments or different plays really. If mcvay has an offensive cord. I wonder what he is up to. The oc was going to make him better.

I need to catch up on some of the media stuff from today... Have we heard from O’Connell lately?

I'm partially concerned that 4 of our first 5 games are against the SECOND WORST division (as of the first 4 weeks) in NFL history. But the other part of me thinks maybe its a good thing to get the early season momentum against inferior opponents. Without the comeback against Buffalo, I feel I would be more the former, but that puts me more in the latter. It will probably be week 9 before I think I can get a real bead on the team.

But hey, if all goes well, I just realized we have a chance to beat Belichick, Brady, and the 9ers a combined total of four times this year....

We need to start stretching the field with a few deep passes per game or we are going to get defenses playing us very tight.

I suspect the Rams have a tell somewhere on the screens. Someone is putting their foot further back or something. That's the type of stuff Belichick would find, super minor details that would give him an edge and Judge is from that tree even if he is a ST background. He knows how they approach all that.

Last year our screens were terrible and I suspected the same thing. Even looked at their alignment pre-snap but couldn't really see well enough. But the way teams were pinning their ears back in 2019 screens should have worked but they didn't.

Could just be that the Giants nuked our screen game and were well prepared. But the way they keyed on them makes me suspect the tell and that stuff does happen.

In the first game one of the announcers pointed it out a few times. On pass plays their toes point straight and on run plays they angle in the direction of the run. I think it was Mark Schlereth.

Hill is as good as gone. He's just too inconsistent and looks lost in zone.

What the Rams are thinking right now is that they need to get a look at some of their other nickel options. IMO. They need to know what they have and Hill's inconsistency has opened that door.

I think they know what they have at corner and Hill is the third best. They will be drafting a corner early next year if they can't sign one. If Long was the answer he'd be given the chance by now. They didn't hesitate to play Fuller and it sounds like he will be reinserted as soon as he's healthy. So its not like Staley is not playing his best players. Contract nor draft position have no bearing thankfully.

See above. I doubt McVay ever bothers to listen to the broadcast. I doubt any of the coaches do. This lack of attention to detail falls on Kromer's shoulders if its still a problem. I recall hearing about it last season also.

On several plays Goff had receivers open. He just didn't see them, or had too much in his head with the pass rush. What surprises me is that Goff was goid at making plays under pressure in college, because his Oline sucked. What happened to that part of his game? And he's already back to not running the ball. I don't want him getting killed but what happened to the three to four runs a game plan to keep the defense guessing. On a few of those sacks he looked like the shell shocked version of Marc Bulger.

McVay’s play calling, designs and subterfuge are all well and good, but in the end, players need to beat the guys in front of them. We didn’t do that enough on Sunday. It’s not about tells, blueprints or regression. It’s simple execution.

Hopefully, next Sunday will be better. In the meantime, a win is still a win.

The defensive pass rush isn’t where it needs to be yet, as stated already.

I don’t know if this is a good observation, but it “feels like”.... there are too many times the “quarterback has all kinds of time”... those really long sustaining pockets.

Seems like that is happening more than normal, to me... leading to some big plays against.

I think its just going to take some trust. Last year is probably still in his head. Rememer how bad the oline protection was. It was so bad Mcvay had to develop a rollout strategy dam near every pass play. Goff had Brown open twice on the sideline in the Giants game and failed to see him. But notice earlier in the game Blythe and Corbett had a miscommunication that allowed a free rusher for a sack. That type of thing can set a QB back or cause him to be a little less trusting and get the ball out earlier.

He really pushed the ball and stood in there in the Bills game but the previous two he was rolling out and quick passing alot, so it's going to take a few games to get comfortable in my opinion.

Goff does need to work on flushing the pocket more often in my book. Create more time when everything is covered up. I think Goff is the most accurate passer in the NFL. His throwaways due to designed plays in this Mcvay offense make the overall completion percentage look a little off. If you took those away he would probably be in the 80% range, not to mention his ball placement which is nromally excellent.

Honestly as interesting as it is all this talks of tells and stuff is ... at the end of the day it doesn’t matter

Like someone said upthread you have to beat the man in front of you regardless .. do you not think o lineman watch tape of Donald and try to figure what he does and if has a tell for a bull rush or whatever ... they know what’s coming and yet they still can’t stop it (unless they use two three guys )

On to the Washington “Formally know as the Skins’ Football team. Can’t sleep on this team. They beat the Eagles who lead their division and just went on the road to beat the 49ers after their Super Bowl run...

I tried to build up the Skins, just can’t. Reality is this is a team they should beat like they did the Eagles. All that needs to happen this week is a ”W’ and injury free football.

Yeah if the offense doesn't run the ball well it's going to look a lot like the previous game. That's what happens to a brilliant offense when it gets hit in the mouth.

But McVay has made it a point to balance the offense this season. The OL is good. So mashing that shit on Washington's front is a great way to slow them and will probably going to be a big element in how this game goes.
