With that said, her long, meandering monologue about the terrible QB plan left me irritated. She acknowledges they drafted Bennett to be their backup but since he's not available, they were somehow supposed to have a crystal ball telling them this would happen. The only thing that makes sense to me is that she knows what happened and can't say but that the Rams should've known better. Otherwise, why criticize the plan?
The Rams probably blew it with Bennett. So she's likely correct on that. But since this could be a serious medical condition that was not screened for I wouldn't be fully comfortable blaming them. This lack of information, as I keep saying, whether it is more hush-hush than required or not, does benefit the team in that regard.

Either way the team missed on a backup QB in mid to late rounds, which is not the worst thing given how good this draft was. Overall they did a good job. And I liked what I saw from Bennett even though he had some rough snaps, I think he is absolutely good enough to be a backup at this level for us outside of whatever his issue is.

Problem is the Rams still need to draft a QB so it is unlikely Bennett factors in for them because they are likely to draft a QB next spring who will be positioned as insurance with Stafford. McVay has mentioned carrying 3 QBs so if they do that then the door is open for that backup job and maybe Bennett factors in who knows. I didn't prefer him in the draft but I like the kid. I like that he's a fighter and what he overcame to win and hold that job. Would be fine with him as our backup if that happens.

There's political groups among the owners I think. Probably a group that includes Spanos and bowl cut boy still butthurt they didn't get their LA stadium together. Spanos' team still floundering like the pile of shit they've always been in spite of good talent, some things never change. The guy has to be bitter watching the Rams bring that title to LA in his house while the Chargers, well, Charger.
After living in SD for 35 years I can attest that the only thing Spanos cares about is his bank account. He could care less about players, coaches and trophies. This is the owner that fired his HC after a 14-2 season. Obstensibly it was an argument between GM AJ Smith that created the problem. Smith told Shottenheimer enough with the nepotism on his staff. But the real undercurrent was the release of key players because of Spanos not wanting to pay them. Spanos also refused to give Shottenheimer a raise. So Shottenheimer did something to push Smith's buttons to get himself fired.

Back then the Chargers were NETTING $65-$70M net profit each season and Dean wanted to increase it to $90M/ year so that he could bring in his entire extended family into the Chargers employ. Las Vegas offered the stadium deal to the Chargers first. Spanos said he wanted the deal with no buy-in by the Chargers basically because he didn't have the money. So Mark Davis who was talking to Spanos about Carson jumped at the deal.

Spanos as of the beginning of the year still owes the NFL his relocation fee of $365M as well as millions to SD for breaking the lease. Dean Spanos is a deadbeat and grifter.

Regarding Bennett it's clear the Rams failed to do their background due dilligence. All the other teams did and knew Bennett was undraftable because of his personal issues. Again, the onus falls on McVay for not insuring that proper vetting of the pick was performed. Something as basic as that and McVay can't be bothered. Why do you think I'm saying his burnout is still happening.

I am grateful for Jourdan and she is the most in depth journalist we Rams fans have enjoyed.

To me, it was obvious from the Jump that either Stafford stayed healthy and we could sneak into the playoffs or he didn't and the slimmest 2% chance of being the healthiest team in the playoffs would vaporize. This was always a transition season. Rypien knew the system and was an emergency vet hire. But even a healthy Stafford wasn't enough for this team. It's a rebuild, Jourdan. You can't fix every weaknes every year and MOST teams don't have a backup QB that moves the needle in the right direction.

Now, if the criticism is an inability to identify the Brock Purdys of the world, well...welcome to the NFL where everyone struggles to know why CJ Stroud wasn't the first QB chosen. Sean somehow knew Matthew was an upgrade to Goff at that stage of their careers so...he knows something, no? What happens to KC, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, or even Dallas or Philly if their QB gets injured? Oh, Matthew is older and is injury prone. Yes, I understand the argument. What I don't understand is how they were expected to make a significant investment in the expensive QB position when the only affordable path for victory this year was put as many good players around Stafford as possible and hope for the best. Even Sean seems to be saying Wentz isn't a long term plan and we hope he isn't needed.

All processes have flaws, so Jourdan is technically right. I just don't think it deserves that much attention because the big picture is the puzzle they are solving now.
Backup QB has been a sore spot on this team for years. They really missed a big red flag with Stetson Bennett’s evaluation and once again found themselves in familiar territory. I think it’s frustrating that in 7 years they couldn’t get a decent backup QB that could at least game manage enough to keep the team in a few games. Nothing they have had was even close to achieving that.

Oh god, what's the phrase for when you and someone you disagree with agree on something?

There's no source for what he says... BUT... if you listen to the last two Jourdan podcasts she really hints that a number of teams were shocked Rams took Bennett. She then goes on to say that what he's dealing with now does not have to do with past issues.

I don't understand why the NFL would have a problem with the way we're going about things. I mean, our schedule has been BONKERS.

Go look at the Dolphins schedule, or Seattle's schedule and then ask yourself what our record would be. In fact, let's do Seattle's:

Week 1 - W since we beat them
Week 2 - @Detroit - L
Week 3 - Carolina - W
Week 4 - @NYG - W
Week 6 - @Cincinnati - L
Week 7 - Arizona - W
Week 8 - Cleveland (with backup QB) - W if Stafford plays, L without him
Week 9 - @Baltimore - L
Week 10 - Washington - W

That's 6-3 with a healthy Stafford folks. Seattle is about to play us (which is always tough for them), and then:

SF
@Dallas
@SF
Philly

Bill is coming due on the easy start for Seattle. One game at a time, but if we win our next three before getting manhandled in Baltimore, we'd be 6-7.

Seattle is probably looking at 6-7 as well there. This Sunday is our season, but a win gives us incredible hope. We just happened to take three Ls from three of those four that Seattle has upcoming while they got NYG and Washington instead.
Yeah. I think if the NFL was concerned about us, they wouldn't have meted out the league's #1 toughest schedule (considering competition, logistics, and number of bye teams) to our 5-12 team.

this is part of the no high draft picks. we have two take players with ???? marks because we don't the draft capitol to pick players with fewer???? this makes me???? mcsnead judgment on a lot of draft picks. anyway i hope we keep our picks in the next draft jmho. but am pretty sure they will trade them away.
