EVERYONE needs to step up. I see no reason every single player on this team can't be better than last year. Quinn was a monster but he is definitely on the upswing. Bradford? Obviously. All the WRs? Without a doubt. The RBs? You kidding me? Tree? Oh yeah. Brockers? Man child becomes MAN.

My point is that this is an extremely young team and if anyone thinks many of these players have hit their ceiling - well I don't really know what to tell you. We will improve this season simply by virtue of having another season in the NFL for most of these kids. Adding some real talent in this draft is just improving the team and mostly for the future. But I think this team will be much better this season and it will show in some of those tough games or games where we were in it but couldn't put the finishing touches together.

So while other teams are trying to hold serve or have multiple starters that HAVE hit their ceiling, we have scratched the surface.

Party on Rams fans. Our future is bright.

Was just re-watching the Texans game and it's almost scary to think how good this unit could be if they just did what they're supposed to do. Givens drops the long bomb, Quick misses the adjustment and gets hit in the back with the ball...but Bradford spreads it around to 8 different receivers and still puts up 3 TD's in just over a half of football.

It's easy to forget just how inexperienced these guys are. Givens and Bailey are ahead of schedule really. For rookies, they progressed really well and will contribute more than a 2nd year WR normally does IMO. Quick may just come into his own and Britt will be a nice added piece.

Starting the year off in the offense they are best at will only pay dividends and if Long can come back by week 1 and the o-line can begin it's gelling process right away there's lots of cause for optimism.
Excellent post. THIS is what I'm talking about. Thank you.

If anything, I hope they use the FO not taking a WR as added motivation. They're being trusted and called upon to take a leadership and veteran role, even the 2nd year guys. Competition is always good but in this case I hope it's the not so obvious signs that our WR core use as added pressure instead of extra breathing room...

Sends a message to our WR corps.

First thing Ray Sherman can say to his guys in OTAs, "I'm pretty sure you guys all heard the Sammy Watkins hype, but we don't need Sammy Watkins. There's not a SINGLE thing he does that the men we already have in here can't do. You guys are talented, but you need to show it. We believe in you, so repay our faith by going out there and producing."

With the influx of talent at other positions I don't see the Rams keeping a greater number of WR's this year than they did last year. So if Britt can keep it in his pants and makes the team one of last years WR's is gone. It's easy to say Pettis since he's the least talented, but he's a slot guy and other than TA there isn't much else. So It gets to Givens or Quick on the bubble. They need to step up their game or learn the slot.
They could count Cook as a TE not a WR, that would free up a WR space but it means just 3 TE's.
There's gonna be 9 slots for people who catch the ball. Divide it how you like.
Keeping only 3 rb's would get a 6th WR and 4th TE.
It goes to the core of the best 53.

Do the WRs need to play better? Absolutely. No doubt about it. But, I maintain that a part of the problem also has to do with Schottenhiemer and the the elephant in the room, Mr. Sam Bradford. From what I've seen, he has gotten better each year, but he still needs to inch his barometer to the right just a tad bit more.

QB Barometer: Game manager.................#14.............................Gun Slinger / Playmaker.

Years ago, the Titans best WR was a guy named Derrick Mason. He wasn't a superstar, but he was a pretty good WR. If I didn't know any better, I would believe that Steadman Bailey could be his clone. Just watch him grow and go his way Sam.

Austin Pettis is a hard to defend back shoulder completion just waiting to happen, IMO. It's just a matter of accuracy and timing. Why do we throw so few of these things???

With another year of seasoning, Tavon Austin going in motion with his quickness should be almost impossible to defend. And for the love of mike, let the kid go down the field more!!!

Chris Givens may or may not prove to be a one-trick pony, but it should be a pretty darn good trick (ala Mike Wallace) especially with a strong rushing attack and play action passes.

Some will disagree, but T.J. Moe is a bigger Danny Amendola and if he balls out on special teams could make the 53.

I still don't understand why Schotty doesn't have a package where Jared Cook lines up out wide and simply runs down the sideline vs. whatever defender. He's almost 6'5" and has a 40" vertical. Sure, he's still got to catch the football, but if isolated on one side of the field he should be almost impossible to defend with an accurate high pass.

I don't know if Brian Quick needs to learn the playbook or not, but the kid does have the talent to be a pretty good target. And this is year three where, barring injury, he'll put it all together or get left behind.

If all these guys are played to their strengths (which I believe Norv Turner would do a better job) and Bradford can do a better job of forgetting a bad play and trusting these guys, they may not even need Kenny Britt to do anything, IMO.

great post but i expect britt to be the missing link in this offense. i believe he will be a beast as fisher will motivate him to play like he born to play. plus a big pay day awaits him if he displays his talent.

EVERYONE needs to step up. I see no reason every single player on this team can't be better than last year.
Because Johnny Hekker was obviously already perfect. ;)

You know, the amusing thing to me is that a lot of people projected Bryan Anger to the Rams before he was shockingly drafted by Jacksonville in the 3rd. I'd all but guarantee Jacksonville would beg for a straight up trade of Anger for the undrafted Hekker now.
