STATEMENT 1: Aaron Donald's need to replace his mega-deal with an even bigger mega-deal, under threat of retirement, is the reason we lost Von Miller. Its really a shame, as a full season of Donald/Miller would have been really amazing to watch, and would have really put us in the pole position to become repeat champions. Not a "we, not me" approach, on Donald's part, that's for sure.

STATEMENT 2: Von Miller, who was pulled by the Rams from purgatory in Denver to a championship in L.A., was offered a fair opportunity to return and help the Rams run it back. Instead, he took a mercenary approach, forcing the Rams to choose between rewarding Aaron Donald or retaining Miller. The Rams made the right choice, as Donald has spent eight years earning every penny with the Rams. Besides, Miller's departure made Bobby Wagner possible, so we're good to go.

Apparently, Rams fully intended to offer Miller $20M+ per with 2 years guaranteed PLUS extend AD. AD was never off the table.

Miller chose instead to take the lesser $20M per but guaranteed for 3 years. That’s seems pretty goddam mercenary to me.

I have NO doubt that if Miller were still playing at a high level after the 2 Ram years that the Rams would have extended him.

If that’s accurate I’ll be looking for Miller to retire after 2 years, Chase his chickens around and regret moving away from AD who resurrected his career.

I'm glad we won the Superbowl, otherwise the Von Miller trade would have been a slap in the face.

That's the point... the Rams could not give both what they wanted (at least not right away).

I don't think any of these are accurate. It's well documented that the Rams offered more money than the Bills, but with 2 years of guaranteed money instead of the 3 he got from Buffalo. He made a financial decision and I respect his right to do that.

I don't see how it's related to AD's deal, they could have afforded both. The Allen Robinson deal is the one that wouldn't have happened if Von had signed.

Agreed. The Rams paid a very steep price to acquire Von Miller considering that the team could not retain him. But the Rams won the Super Bowl. Would the Rams have won it all without Von Miller? Zero chance, IMO. Therefore, the trade was easily worth it. In fact, to win a Super Bowl, the assets given up were a bargain. Miller was just as effective as Donald in the post-season, which is mind-blowing, and he had a particular affinity for making big plays at exactly the right time. He turned back the clock. He played as if he was a top 5 NFL player on defence. Nobody has thought that about Von for a number of years now. I was pleasantly surprised. I think the Bills will find out soon though that Von Miller cannot sustain his post-season level of play long term, at least not at his current career stage. Given the money they are scheduled to pay him, I think they might be banking on him sustaining it...

I also think the fact he didn't make the decision to come to LA factored. He wanted to pick his destination and I think being away from AD means he is the center piece.....the Big Dog. Money also factored of course.

Bills have built an all in roster. I will be rooting for them to win the AFC. But they better put Miller on a pitch count if they want him for the playoffs. He won’t likely last a 20-21 game season otherwise.

Watch his video on the decision. His agent and Dad clearly influenced him to take the money. He wanted to play with AD. He was clearly torn and let others tell him what to do.

thankfully the Donald drama is over. Hopefully, he plays out his contract this time for the fans' sake and so that the Rams can properly plan and staff the team without an unexpected wrench thrown in after thinking they solved it previously.

I think neither, or tad of both.

I think Donald did limit what flexibility we had. He could have kept playing under his old deal... If he had, we'd have had more $ to consider for Miller or others. His delay signing didn't help either, so we had to guess a little budget-wise.

I also think Miller got a deal too good to pass up. He left for the money, but I don't think he thumbed his nose at the Rams... He probably felt like he had to take the Buffalo deal.

Fact is that Miller will be a HOF’r because he’s really good. Another fact is that pass rushers who have lined up with AD have benefited greatly, including Miller.

I love this team.

I'm going with none of the above, and instead choose greed on the part of Von.

If I see another Von tweet about wanting to ge here (LA) , there (DEN) and everywhere (DAL, BUFF), I am going to puke. Von seems like an attention white and I think he's cringworthy. I am glad he helped the Rams get a ring, but he can fuck right off.

Neither.
Miller's contract situation was not linked to Donald's.
IMO.
Robinson was a bigger better toy than Woods (who the Rams should be forever grateful for his performance, effort and leadership). McVay saw Robinson as a way for Stafford to better maximize his skill set.
IMO.
Rams were committed to signing both AD and Miller but Miller chose to chase the biggest potential payout. There is no link between AD contract and Miller offer. However, not signing Miller gave the Rams some breathing room if another major improvement became available. And along came Wagner helping fill a major void in the defense. If Miller signed I’m positive there would be no Wagner signing.
IMO.
The plan was always to make a run at OBJ once he was proven to be on track to recovery. Not sure on exactly when that will be but my guess is a fair incentive laden contract covering each game he is able to start will do the trick. And add some additional incentive $$ for playoff success.
