What draft picks do we have exactly?

Last update I saw on comp pick predictions has seven 3rd round comp picks handed out. Jenkins was 4th of those 7, so solidly in the middle of those 7 picks. Add that he now was voted to the pro bowl, and it is guaranteed he will net a 3rd comp pick. So they will keep their 3rd, which will be nearly 30 picks higher than the comp pick.

So good thing is they could move back on that 2nd, pick up an additional 4th, then maybe package a 4th and 6th and get an extra 3rd. So yeah they have some ammo to move around and focus on getting multiple picks in rounds 2-4.

Values of the contracts they signed as a free agent along with their playing time and performance weighted against players signed to replace them. So for McLeod as an example he signed a big contract played well and played all season. Couple that with his cap hit this year was $2.6m and $35m overall and replaced by a guy with a 600k cap hit and a $2.6m overall contract and they decided that was worth a 4th. Jenkins signed for more and was even better he gets a 3rd. Fairley was the border line one but his play has apparently been good enough that he'll net us a 6th even with him and Easley signing similar contracts. Also there are I think a total of 32 comp picks awarded so if more people qualify for one only the top rated 32 grant picks.

Easly is not in the equation because he was cut.... he was not an UFA and not a gain in FA. Just like Long and Laurenitis do not count as losses because they were cut.

So all the talk of the Rams being set back in the draft is an overstatement. Now, they could have had deeper drafts these last two drafts considering they had an extra 2 last year and an extra 3 this year, but they did not decimate their future.

It's mostly based on the contract the FAs sign weighed against the FAs we sign. We didn't sign any FAs, so that balances things in our favor. Play is also taken into account. But I'm not sure how much it counts for in the formula. The good news is that Jenkins, McLeod, and Fairley have all played well on their new teams.

Nope. As far as I remember, the highest you could get is a 3rd.

Yes. A couple of the part time refs are in charge it.

Cool that makes sense now. Out of all drafts this is a great one to get 3 como picks, especially that 3rd and 4th. Hopefully we get a few free agents to pair with our draft class to make a considerable difference.

I know we won't benefit in the first round because we traded it away, but it'd be nice to have the 3rd pick of the 2nd round!

pretty sure we have the lowest sos, so yeah, the titans would get pick #3 but we would end up with a pick behind the jaguars and bears in the second round because we would rotate.
but we could get a better pick if the cardinals win and jets too.
pretty sure we will end up with pick #38. maybe #37.

I fully agree on your point of NOT drafting for future potential. We have a knack for those picks to not ever reach potential, or to reach it just in time for their free agency.
We need to draft players who appear to be able to be above average from the get go, or at least half way into their first season. No more Brian Quicks.

That's were the scouting department comes in and does a better job, imo. It's not just the coaching staff.
