Plus he paid his debt (more or less).
I disagree, because it does need to be pointed out he didn't serve a day in prison (or face any other punishment other than legally be unable to own a dog for the rest of his life and he's been fighting that) for animal abuse. His jail time was solely for the racketeering involved in running the dog fighting ring.

That's why I said "more or less." But he did get a 3 year suspended sentence from Surry County Circuit Court for dog fighting, and the State dropped the animal cruelty charge.

Yeah, I felt like the thread isn't going to end well. People are still bugged by what he did, so it will inevitably go south ..... IMO. I felt he was a scumbag, but I was a scumbag too when I was young, so I can't say the guy deserves no second chances. Plus he paid his debt (more or less). Glad to see he's not involved in that stuff anymore. And I can't for the life of me understand how he could live on*only* $300K a year. Poor bastid.

That is a paltry sum...Only 25 large a month (not before taxes, AFTER)...But seriously, when you make that kind of money and are used to making it (or more), that's really nothing for him...Me on the other hand, wouldn't know what the fuck to do with that kind of money...(Though I could figure it out in short order)

Whether I would agree or not, he indeed has paid his debt...The next person convicted of a crime who is outraged at the lenient sentence he gets and INSISTS on spending more time in prison, will be the next one in line at the shrink's office...

he had all the God given talent in the world but you can't fix stupid. he just refused to learn and the dog fighting pissed me off but he served his time. I think it would be fun to see him as a backup for the Rams if Bradford goes down again. we actually kinda have some weapons on offense he could use. an explosive wr/gadget player, two big body recievers, a wr with clutch hands, another huge TE and a fast and shifty HB. give him a line and who knows it would be interesting either way lol.

Yeah, it was a plea bargain. I just felt like even "more or less" was giving it too much credit. I do accept he was punished adequately for the racketeering, but that's not what I'm mad about. It's like saying the Patriots more or less got their due punishment with $750,000 in fines and a late 1st round draft pick for 3 Super Bowls. IMO of course.

Sure, if I committed any kind of animal cruelty crime, then I would be a total hypocrite to be mad at his sentence. That hasn't happened and isn't going to.

Maybe he'll have a successful life after football.
I couldn't stand the guy.
I hope he's grown as a man and can keep it up.

He's said and done all the right things since he's gotten back. Good for him.

Rare proof that prison actually can be used as rehabilitation for re-entry into society and not just a place to put away bad people.

Actually after his agent and taxes he will take home about 47% of the 300K, which is 141K or $11,700 per month. Not a paltry sum at all, I'm just pointing out athletes take home a lot less than what people think. Remember Fisher at the rookie meeting taking in a million doallrs and slowly taking out chunks for agent, taxes etc until there was less than half the stack was left.

@Mikey Ram Vick got the stiffest penalty possible.

I understood the piece to say that he ONLY got the 300K stipend because he had to pay taxes and shit out of the total amount (That's why I assumed the amount was after taxes)...In any case, it's enough to get by on until the bills are totally wiped clean, which is apparently imminent...

Nobody who tortures innocent living beings to death deserves any form of sympathy or respect. I don't care if he's a changed man or not. To me, he will always be the monster who drowned, electrocuted, and beat dogs to death, threw smaller dogs to his own dogs as "practice" for the real thing, used rape stands (which are considered inhumane by every respectable animal protection agency) to breed dogs, and caused permanent psychological damage to his own dogs - to the point where hundreds had to be euthanized.
To me he is a sociopath, for the reasons you have listed.
Has he really changed? I don't know. He may or may not have sociopathic tendencies. He may be nothing more than a dirt bag that is trying to reform himself. I wish him well in that regard. Society is full of people who are recovering dirtbags who knowingly hurt people, have realized or been forced to realize the err of their ways and are trying to change. Go an AA meeting and you'll meet a ton of them. Or gamblers or people who neglect their families/kids because of their own selfishness and immaturity.
I don't know if Vick is changed. I don't want him on the Rams, because of his lack of QB skills as much as anything. But, he has paid his debt (both as it was determined by the legal system and the monetary debt) and he is allowed to move forward.

This is very true about pay.
My buddy signed a $900,000 signing bonus out of high school as a left handed pitcher. Agent got a percentage, state tax (high tax state), federal tax. He had enough left to start a retirement account and buy a new truck. Better spot than most are at at 18.
Players have to file taxes for every state they play in during a season....which seems silly beyond belief to me. I am surprised more players don't sign with teams based on a state (Texas, Florida) not having a state tax.

What about everyone that eats meat? those animals are tortured to death as well.
Yeah, this just upped the "Will not end well" quotient.

I will say there is a definite intent difference between the two cases. Eating vs. just enjoying animal suffering (and animals many keep as pets at that.)

Yea ok i "upped" it.

So your saying a chicken or a cow cannot be a pet? I know farmers that have them as pets so your being very close minded.

To me killing a animal is killing a animal if you want to make excuses and say its diffrent thats your opinion. Ask peta how they feel.

I wont be replying anymore to some hypocrisy shit.

A chicken or cow can be a pet, but most people regard them as primarily meat animals whereas dogs or cats are not. Although I will point out that it would be just as reprehensible if Vick engaged in cockfighting.

And I'm not interested in asking PETA anything.

The rest of your post is personal attack, so I'm ignoring it.
