That's exactly my point, Merlin. People use the "he'll get lazy once he's got his big contract" excuse without personally knowing any of the players.

If we assume that any player could become Haynesworth-esque after signing a huge contract, it doesn't need to be brought up selectively all the time.

Because Gregg Willisms said when he got there last year they weren't even sure Verner was going toake the team.
I think he was exaggerating, but more to the point the definition of a one year wonder is someone who has one great year and then never repeats. There's no way to know that Verner is a one year wonder at this point in time.

So, are you saying that no one should express opinions/thoughts about professional athletes unless they know them personally?

So I mentioned this particular thought one time about one player (Byrd). You're response makes it sound like I'm constantly questioning players and how they'll perform after signing huge FA contracts.

It was really just a passing thought that I didn't think was particularly offensive or ridiculous.
I guess I should have just kept it to myself.

I don't think we will have the money for either but consider:

Need - we need a safety more than a CB - advantage Byrd
Cost - Byrd is looking for elite pay - advantage Verner
Age - Verner is 2 years younger - advantage Verner
Draft Options- many more solid CBs than Safeties - advantage Byrd
Impact - Byrd seems to have the bigger impact in a game / more of a game changed - tiebreaker goes to Byrd

If we go for one of these in FA - it shows our hand in whether Rams will be drafting high for a CB or S.

Not at all. However, your opinion that Byrd would become lazy is based on no solid fact. It's just a feeling you have; as I said, unless you know Byrd personally and how his mind works, you can't possibly draw that conclusion. The same applies to any player.
