On the one hand, this album went platinum back in the day so it might be hard to call it underrated.
On the other hand, I don't think anyone under 30 has heard of this - it probably was a bit of a flash in the pan.

This one is like the 8th best selling album of the 21st century, but doesn't fit the demo of this board, ergo "underrated".

This, just because:

Queensryche is one of my favorite bands of all time.
I believe all their albums are underrated, lol.

Linkin Park on the other hand. I just didn’t feel it. Much like Incubus, it just fell flat and all sounded the same to me.

Ok, this will throw a few for a loop. No Joe Perry. Almost no Brad Whitford. Tyler strung out and hitting rock bottom with his addictions. And yet somehow, they managed to put out this album full of one bone-crunching, ass-kicking song after another. New guitarist Jimmy Crespo was the glue that held them together, and he along with Tyler did some great songwriting. And while it was good that Aerosmith eventually took Perry and Whitford back into the fold, it's absolutely fucking criminal that some record company A&R guy didn't find another band to hook up with Crespo, because he was a seriously talented guitarist and a great songwriter. He's proof that sometimes talent isn't enough to make it in the music biz.

This album gets overlooked because A) No Perry and very little Whitford, and B) it came out in 1982 at the height of New Wave and when ballsy, bluesy rock like Aerosmith's was as out of fashion as it ever became. Timing matters too. But goddamn, if you listen to this album on its own merits and without any preconceived notions, you'll realize that it kicks more ass than a house full of Lizzos, and that's a LOT of ass. If there is a poster child for underrated albums, this is it.

Now, put on your headphones, turn the volume up to 11, and pull out your favorite air guitar:

For my money, it doesn't get any better than Barry Manilo II! It only went platinum when it should have gone double platinum!
My favorite song on the album? "Mandy", of course! ~ @thirteen28

Michael Schenkner (sp?) is one of my favorite guitarists from that era/genre. Rock bottom live, a fucking scorcher!

Another live album from that era/genre I loved was Pat Travers, “go for what you know”. Saw him live back then a couple times.

But yeah, I’ll take UFO over brother Schenkner’s band, the Scorpions even though they got more play.

Ok you BASTID!

The Who - Who's Next"

I wore this album out in 1984..... I still love this album.

WHO underrates THAT album? When it comes to classic rock albums, you’re an idiot if you don’t think that’s one of the classics.
I know all forms of art are subjective and a matter of taste and opinion, but c’mon. We’re talking a playlist that has no bad or throwaway songs.

…but if we’re gonna talk about underrated WHO albums, how about Quadraphenia? Man I love that album. For my $$, It blows away “Tommy”

How about a couple of classic guitar albums from the ‘70’s?
Blow by Blow—Jeff Beck
Bridge of Sighs—Robin Trower

And a progressive favorite of mine:
The Yes Album—Yes

‘80’s?
Does anybody remember the Power Station album? Some really cool stuff on there.

And of course, theres got to be a Todd album on here somewhere.
“Nearly Human”. The album you knew he could always make and eventually would. What an awesome tour.

“Amused to Death” by Roger Waters was pretty good too (featured some Jeff Beck).
Speaking of ‘80’s albums featuring Jeff Beck, I wouldn’t call Tina Turner’s “Private Dancer” underrated, but would say that about Mick Jagger’s “She’s the Boss.”

Master of Reality by Black Sabbath.

Had the lyrics printed on the back of the cover and each song told a story.
Very underated....

~ArkyRamsFan~
If we‘re talking Sabbath my vote for their most underrated album is Sabotage.
A lot of unexpected twists and turns on this one.

@TSFH Fan I listened to "Operation Mindcrime" all of the time in my youth. I also wore out a cassette of "Rage for Order " as well. A lot of good stuff on those two albums.

I agree with you @dpjax Master of Reality wasn’t really underrated and was a gateway to modern heavy metal with at least five classics that still get airplay today. I’ll need to give Sabotage another listen as it does have Hole and Symptom on there, which are both great songs.
