Very glad they won and impressed by the defensive effort. But if I’m a Cowboys fan I’m worried about no points in the second half at home with that huge time of possession advantage.

Was this another "All-Star" crew like they had for Rams-Chiefs? Because they both were AWFUL and favored a certain team...and that certain team won both games.

Yeah, I told my brothers last Friday that this will be the game that the NFL reins the Saints in. The NFL wants the Rams in the Super Bowl, and the Saints made it clear that the Rams could not get to the Super Bowl through NOLA.
--------------
As for the conspiracy theory, I dont buy it. If the refs can control the outcome for the Rams, then homefield advantage is irrelevant.

Lmao! Amazing how one sided people when things don’t go their way. Great post!

I say "how many points did the saints score on the rams defense?" :fuelfire:

Rynie hold your horses partner! Your still not going to do anything in the playoffs broski! :D

Completely shut out the an offense averaging 37 points a game

We may have the best defense in the league right now. It also happens to be the youngest in the league. Byron Jones still #1 CB and LVE will be DROY.

so do you like the cowboys again?

Was at our bar last night cheering on the Cowpies..... I feel so ... dirty....

we weren't cheering on the cowboys, we were cheering on saints losing. the cowboys were just there.

it's like watching porn when a man is in there. you don't focus on the man, he's just there. the woman gets all your attention.

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/11/30/randy-gregory-wasnt-lined-up-in-the-neutral-zone/

One of the more bizarre officiating errors in a night marked with several of them came when the folks in black and white wiped out a Drew Brees fumble, recovered by the Cowboys.

Referee Walt Anderson announced that Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory had lined up in the neutral zone. But one small problem existed with this conclusion: Gregory wasn’t lined up in the neutral zone.

The neutral zone is, per the official rulebook, the “space between the forward and backward points of the ball (planes) and extends to the sidelines.” Look at the photo of the pre-snap alignment. Gregory’s hand simply doesn’t line up with or beyond the forward point of the ball.

“This is too technical for a foul to be called,” former NFL referee and current Sunday Night Football rules analyst Terry McAulay told PFT via text message. “Moreover, the [left tackle] appears to be lined up in the backfield, so it would be better to have simply warned both players in this situation.”

Even a warning arguably would have been excessive. Gregory simply wasn’t in the neutral zone, and the official that concluded otherwise flat out blew it.

And then you have stuff like this being called for a first down.

if your supercoach wasn't so worried about gaining 5 yards with his last timeout he would have been able to challenge that call.

the refs were horrible both ways yesterday. many of their calls were abominable.

.
My super coach had to challenge a call that shouldn’t have had to be challenged (the Dan Arnold fumble recovery that was recovered by Michael Thomas). Had he not had to clean up the refs mess then, he would have had a flag to clean up the refs mess on that play.

But you are right, he is a Super (Bowl) coach.

It was ruled an incomplete pass. It was still the saints ball. He chose to gain 5 yards instead of hold onto his last challenge just in case he needed it for an important challenge. Don't blame the refs shit call for his idiocy.

No joke that was a bad challenge, but the other one was on point. He had to do the refs job for them.

His idiocy is a blessing and a curse. It was either against you guys or the Bucs, and we needed 1 yard for a first down on a 4th and short to ice the game. He did a double reverse to a tight end who was tackled for a 2 yard loss, and we lost the game.

On the flip side of that you have “Ambush” in the Super Bowl, and that play sunk the Colts and won us a Super Bowl.

May your Sean one day lead you to such euphoria.

Honestly, with all the guys who will need to be paid, you are probably right.

How does Snead plan to handle all of those mouths? Do you think anyone is taking a hometown discount?

pretty much all the core guys are signed up long term.

suh, barron and joyner will definitely be gone after this season. maybe brockers as well. there will be enough cap space for the rams to sign whoever they think is important to the team.

Funny how they conveniently forget they got the ref crew known for screwing over the Rams during their game against us . . . and that ref crew unsurprisingly screwed over the Rams in a blatant, game-changing manner.

Plus, the whole favoring a certain team claim is laughable for anyone who watched that game. The refs sucked all around. The Saints got multiple major blown calls in their favor. Namely, they called Gregory offsides (when he wasn't) on the Brees fumble that Dallas recovered, and they didn't flag Kirkwood for a blatant push-off on his TD catch.

A strong Dallas defense smothers the New Orleans Saints passing game on TNF

The New Orleans Saints entered the NFL’s weekly Thursday night clash needing just one win to secure a playoff berth. Of course, with MVP candidate Drew Brees on pace to record the best grade of his illustrious career and Asshole Face calling the shots for one of the most potent passing attacks in the entire NFL, many thought that the Saints would roll over a middle-of-the-pack Cowboys team that had only just started to pick up steam in their quest to climb the NFC East.

However, an ever-ascending Dallas Cowboys defense didn’t read the script and produced one of their best performances of the season to stifle the New Orleans Saints’ passing attack, and take home the win.

Brees-Pressure-1024x576.png

The mightily impressive defensive performance all started with the sublime pass-rushing efforts of the defensive line. As a unit, they were able to generate pressure on 11 of Drew Brees’ 30 dropbacks, and the constantly unstable pocket kept the offense out of rhythm for the majority of the game.

The sheer volume of pressure that Brees faced on Thursday night was something that the star quarterback had not experienced for a long time. All told, he was moved off his spot on 36.7% of his dropbacks on the night, which was by far the highest pressure rate he’s faced this season and the highest rate he’s faced since Week 14 of the 2016 campaign.

The kicker for the Cowboys’ defense was that they didn’t need to send an extra rusher to produce pressure, as they blitzed just twice on the night. Instead of sacrificing valuable members of the coverage unit, they relied on Demarcus Lawrence, Maliek Collins, Randy Gregory and Tyrone Crawford to get the job done in the trenches, and they succeeded.

While all the aforementioned players ended the contest with at least one pressure, Demarcus Lawrence was the standout performer. Lawrence, who is truly capitalizing on his contract year, won five of his 25 pass-rush snaps and produced a strip sack, a quarterback hit and three hurries to go along with an additional strip sack that was nullified by a questionable offsides penalty. His pass-rushing grade of 92.0 was his best mark of the season and the second-best mark of his five-year career to date.

BreesTWP.gif

Through the first 12 weeks of the season, Brees had thrown just two turnover-worthy passes on 76 pressured attempts, and the resulting turnover-worthy play percentage of 2.6% ranked fifth among the league’s quarterbacks with at least 25 pressured attempts over the first 12 weeks.

However, with the pocket constantly collapsing around him in Week 13, Brees equaled his season total as he ended the game with two turnover-worthy plays from just nine pressured attempts, the worst of which (above) resulted in a game-ending interception.

On the night, Brees completed five of his nine attempts under pressure, for 51 yards, a touchdown and an interception. His 69.4 passer rating and 66.7% adjusted completion percentage on those throws are both the fifth-worst marks of his season so far.

If the Cowboys’ pass-rush set the tone for the Week 13 clash, the play of the coverage unit enforced it. The Cowboys’ defense held Drew Brees to a passer rating of just 71.6 on the night, allowing 18 catches from 28 targets for just 127 yards, a touchdown and an interception. It was the first time since Week 14 of the 2016 season that Brees that been kept to a passer rating of less than 75.0.

Emphasizing the true team effort, the Cowboys saw standout coverage play by cornerback Jourdan Lewis (90.8 coverage grade), linebackers Leighton Vander Esch (88.0) and Jaylon Smith (85.4) and slot cornerback Anthony Brown (76.3).

Lewis, who was the recipient of the fourth-quarter interception, only saw four targets in the game, but he certainly had his hands full as he was covering dynamic pass-catcher Alvin Kamara on all four of those passes. Despite the apparent mismatch, he allowed only two of those targets to be caught for just nine yards, and he showed tremendous instincts to get under Drew Brees’ last pass of the game.

Helping Lewis in coverage was rookie linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, who – and this couldn’t come as a surprise – was arguably the best player on the Cowboys’ defense on Thursday night. The former Boise State Bronco was all over the field in coverage and logged four solo tackles and three defensive stops on his 25 coverage snaps.

On the seven throws into his primary coverage (five of which came against Kamara), he allowed five receptions for just 17 yards, with his longest allowed completion going for a paltry five yards.

Breakup.gif

Nothing summarizes the Cowboys’ coverage efforts more than the fact that the defense combined to contest six of Brees’ 28 attempts (21.4%) on the night – which is the third-best rate for a defense that has faced the Saints this season. Of those six passes, a staggering four were broken up at the catch point, and just one of those passes was caught by the receiver. The resulting 16.7% completion percentage on his contested passes is Brees’ second-worst mark over the last two seasons.

We knew that the Dallas Cowboys’ defense had the potential to be formidable way back in Week 6, but the unit that took the field on Thursday night far surpassed expectations. Now atop the NFC East with a 7-5 record, the Dallas Cowboys and the rapidly-ascending defense suddenly and scarily has the potential to go toe-to-toe with even the best offenses in the league. If they can continue to play at the same level through the remaining four games, who knows where they might end up come January.

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/12/01/cowboys-address-mystery-man-on-saints-sideline/

In the aftermath of a Saints-Cowboys game during which the home team stymied one of the most potent offensive in football, suspicions have emerged in connection with images showing a person in Cowboys gear with a headset (and apparently a cell phone) on the New Orleans sideline. And, yes, the Saints are suspicious.

The Cowboys have explained the issue in this way: “It’s a member of the game day entertainment staff. He stands next to the ‘green hat’ who is the network TV person who works with the officials to coordinate TV timeouts. His job is to communicate to our internal video board people when a TV time out is coming and how much time is left in that timeout as they come out of a break. He does not stand in the team bench area. They stand just outside the bench area on that side of the field.”
