Now, there’s no longer any reference to “Fight for L.A.” on the team’s website, and the narrative has shifted to one that’s almost pleading and apologetic, in essence: “We knew this was going to take a long time. ... We didn’t expect you to love us right away. … Please, give us a chance.” There might be a niche market in that, but it’s hard to imagine the franchise growing a robust fan base that way.

The Raiders were BIG TIME in LA; superbowl, etc. A huge Raider fan base still exists in LA. The Charges are a huge rival of the Raiders.

If you're a Raider fan, why would you get all excited about those sissy Charges moving in? You think they all are chomping at the bit for some Charger tickets?

Blows me away that someone thought moving the Chargers to LA was a great idea. Can you imagine the Giants moving to Dallas; maybe the Green Bay Bears; or how about the Cleveland Ravens???

Chargers in LA = Really Dumb Idea!

Although, the $1 rent payment to play in the "RAMS" new stadium is not a bad deal for them. Maybe they don't need fans in attendence.

Mid 30s is prime for a QB. But I agree that the Chargers and Spanos suck.

It's moreso towards the end of a QB's prime though. The Chargers as I mentioned before the season have a lot of roster problems. They have some good players, sure, but that remaining window for Rivers ain't gonna line up too well for where that roster is. Them making a questionable coach hire is just complicating the issue further, and might cost them a couple years if Spanos is too stupid to make a change.

Depending on a 35 year old QB who will be 36 in December without a young gun waiting in the wings is dangerous. Now that said if they're lucky they'll be in the Darnold sweepstakes, or at the least finish 2nd worst and get Rosen. Either of those guys would be a real nice pickup for them, but then you have to realize neither is going to do too much in year one and like with the Rams they are probably drafting the QB for the next regime. By the time two years pass, Rams are going to have a stranglehold on the market given how good McVay looks at the helm.

There's a good chance that the Raiders will draw more fans from LA to the Vegas stadium up the I-15 than who show up for the Chargers even in the Rams' new stadium. Spanos simply could not have played this whole thing worse up to this point.

Winless Chargers are having an awful time trying to grow roots in Los Angeles
Sam FarmerContact Reporter

In San Diego, this is a fantastic NFL season.

The Chargers, who abandoned that city for Los Angeles, are 0-4 and, worse, have gone largely unnoticed.

This week’s game against the winless New York Giants has been shoved to Channel 9, where it won’t risk bumping into the Rams’ kickoff. Last week, the Chargers were exiled to Channel 13. What’s next, rabbit ears?

Whether it’s failing to sell out their debut at the 27,000-seat StubHub Center, or needing a silent snap count at home because of all the screaming opposing fans, or barely beating the local ratings of the 6:30 a.m. game in London, it’s a new indignity every week for the Chargers.

But they moved anyway. Then, in addition to a botched logo and other fumbles, the Chargers rolled out their “Fight for L.A.” slogan. That could be read one of two ways. They were either fighting the Rams for fans, which the NFL didn’t like — the league goes to great lengths to avoid owners competing over the same sports dollars — or fighting on behalf of L.A. Well, nobody here asked for the Chargers to fight on their behalf.

For 20 years, Los Angeles was incredibly valuable to the NFL without a team. It was the threat that stadium-hungry teams around the league could hold over their cities. That leverage point still existed after the Rams moved, because Kroenke was building a two-team stadium. It would be for the Rams, and a team to be named later.

But now that the Chargers have moved here, and the situation has gone sideways, Los Angeles has become a cautionary tale. The only other team that would work here would be the Raiders, and they’re building a stadium in Las Vegas.

The 0-4 Chargers will face the 0-4 Giants Sunday at MetLife Stadium. Hear from quarterback Philip Rivers on both teams trying to get their first win of the season.

There’s no way this city will be looked at as a hammer again. A relocation-minded owner who threatened, “We just might be the second team in Los Angeles,” would be met with gales of laughter. So at least that’s a good thing.

All of this comes at a bad time for a league trying to cope with the dark clouds gathering over issues of health and safety, political protests, game attendance and TV ratings.

Commissioner Roger Goodell was at the Chargers’ game last Sunday — the second time in two months he has visited them — and saw how Eagles fans took over that stadium. The crowd might have been split, but players from both teams talked about how much it felt like a Philadelphia home game.

It won’t be any better for the Chargers when they play host to Denver in Week 6. And their New Year’s Eve finale is against the Raiders, when StubHub will surely be a sea of silver and black that’s accented by flecks of blue.

So where do the Chargers go from here? At this point it’s highly improbable that they would try to unwind the relocation and move back to San Diego. They couldn’t with their current owner, anyway, and the Spanos family has given no indication it intends to sell. Plus, the NFL has in place financial penalties for the Rams or Chargers if they sell their clubs in the next 10 years. The league doesn’t want house flippers.

After next season, both teams will have to start cutting $65-million checks every year for a decade to pay off their relocation fee. There is pain to come.

A new stadium is cool and exciting, except when you can’t fill it. Both the Rams and Chargers have to prove that they’re capable of doing that.

Meanwhile, there are former Chargers fans in San Diego who find themselves cheering for the Giants’ Eli Manning this weekend, and Miami’s Jay Cutler a few weeks ago. Back in the old days, Manning and Cutler were despised.

And the hits keep coming.

“Mr. [Dean] Spanos has talked about this being a process,” NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said. “He’s talked about getting in and doing the hard work of connecting with the community, and that’s what they’re doing.”

It’s a process. So is a root canal.

You know before the season we discussed this and what amazed me was that anyone in the media actually thought a mediocre Chargers roster with a mid thirties QB and a new coaching staff headed by a questionable hire would win. And what was more frustrating was the constant and what so many of us saw as unfair bashing of Goff, Gurley, and some other players on this roster, not to mention our young HC.

Now, I'm often wrong on things as a fan, admittedly. But man did I see that one correctly. And after watching Vinny and some others sucking up to the broke @$$ Spanos family (and puking shortly thereafter) to include all the preseason garbage media takes where they don't bother to analyze a full roster, it sure feels good to see things turning out the way it is right now.

Here's hoping these sorry media clowns continue their ignorance. This week is going to be enjoyable watching these morons go from spin control on their BS takes to overhype of the team as we know they will. And again I hope McVay keeps this team grounded, and I think he will, because they're not at the point yet where they can get all cocky and read their press clippings.

EDIT: Oh and one more thing... After this one watch and see what the Coliseum looks like next Sunday. Spanos is going to be crapping his man diapers.
Hold your horses, Rams could easily be 1-3.No matter what the media say, on any given Sunday any team can beat any other team.

A cautionary tale for Spanos, Kroenke and Davis. Great destinations will draw opposing fans in droves especially from cold weather cities.

Even if it's kinda dull but the team is winning fans will show up. The W's are what matters.

Way too many Hag fans in the stands for my liking.

See my first reply.........

If that's really the Chargers account that couldn't be clumsier of them.......LOL that's so dumb.

..............................................................................................

FYI I think it's funny that the Chargers are playing in a stadium that sold the naming rights to the company that is leading the way to help opposing fans get tickets to Chargers game. You can't make this kinda shit up, you just have to appreciate it when it happens.

I'm looking forward to Week 17 to see Black Hole South in StubHub.
