No, this is not meant to be in blue font. I know, I know, there aren't many of us who look on Jeff Fisher very fondly, but after that beat down against Seattle, and it's almost Christmas, I feel like Scrooge waking up after a difficult evening, and wanting to spread some cheer. Mr. Jeff Fisher, you didn't get where you wanted with this team, but we, the fans, do owe you some thanks.
Let me start with these off the top of my head:
1. Taking a chance on Todd Gurley
2. Grabbing an undersized Defensive Tackle named Aaron Donald
3. Drafting Tru Johnson from little ole Montana somewhere
4. Going all out( and paying and paying a personal price) to draft Jared Goff
5. Drafting Johnny Hekker from my neck of the woods.
6. Drafting Greg the leg.
7. Drafting Michael Brockers
8. Drafting Alec Ogletree
Of course there were some picks that didn't work out, but for these picks Mr. Fisher, we fans owe you a big thank you! Merry Christmas!

Fisher's Drafting of KEY players definitely made things easier for McVay, and he deserves credit for building the core foundations of a damn fine Rams team.

No doubt. The vast Majority of our special teams and defensive personel are Fisher guys. He built that part really well. He just couldn’t understand offense
or bring in the right guys to build the Oline. Him and sneed couldn’t get the LT and Center spots right, or Wr’s.

But Mcvay brings more than just great offensive strategy, it’s the self correction and humility, accountability of all coaches and players and how they can all work to get better each game.

Oh and the no stupid penalty emphasis, which is still a work in progress.

I WILL ALWAYS GIVE HIM SOME CREDIT. I can't give any of his recent predecessors credit, though. Thanks Fish. If you would have hired , say, like a Sean McVay as your OC, your coaching career would have been extended tremendously. I WILL ALWAYS HAVE A PLACE IN MY HEART FOR FISH.

Fisher could spot defensive talent, he just had trouble developing it or creating a scheme for them to become successful as a complete team. If there was an area where he stood out, it was his finding & developing young safeties. Fisher & DC Williams worked well together, but he couldn't or wouldn't attract the same competence for his offense. As a HC, at least with the Rams, he was underwhelming in attracting top quality coaches on offense as his ego or trust issues wouldn't allow him to part with any meaningful control. This also appeared in his suffering relations with Snead. His players liked him and Fisher sometimes seemed over protective of guys who hadn't been producing in awhile. He didn't follow the league in developing a pass first approach and relied on an unbalanced scheme, hurting Steven Jackson by remaining one dimensional behind poor O-Lines & receivers. Bradford also hurt Fisher's career imo, and he, when healthy, couldn't lift an offense up to overcome the coaching deficiencies, although this was as much about lacking decent supporting personnel as coaching. If Fisher really still loves the game enough to return as a DC, he could enjoy some further success, although I don't get the feeling he would be up to that, otherwise he'd need an extremely strong GM which chose and allowed a quality OC a good deal of autonomy. jmo.

It’s imposdible to not give him some credit.

His downfall was his pride. He ONLY wanted to do it his way ( the 80’s Bears way) and scoffed at any and everybody that wanted to do anything different. It was imposdible to get a talented OC because they knew he would control, and manipulate the play calls etc. And give them mediocre personnel.

I honestly wonder how often he has watched our games and what his thoughts are?

Fisher gets criticized for good reason but he was actually the necessary bridge QB. I can't imagine what we would look like if Sean had inherited spags old roster or something lol. So he did something positive for us for sure

I think we'd look a lot like Pre-Garoppolo 49ers.

At the time of his hire Fisher was widely viewed as the best candidate available, by far.

I concurred with that assessment and I bet nearly everyone on here did, too.

We went from a pitiful laughingstock other teams looked foward to demolishing to a rugged, if offensively inept, team. The Ram's FO and ownership displayed the patience of a saint with Fisher which is a quality all coaches admire and helped them land the best coaches in the game.

Thank You Jeff Fisher for not hiring a bonafide Offensive Coordinator with proper credentials, which made the Ram front office realize they needed a Coach with an offensive background for their young Quarterback, which in turn led to the hiring of Sean McVay....Thank You so much and may the fish be with you!

I’m becoming increasingly reluctant to just dump all over Fisher, anymore.

It’s more fun to enjoy this ‘17 Snead/McVay ride.

But I will say this. Some are giving Fisher too much credit for too many Ram draft picks. Snead should be getting the lions share of the credit, especially after the 3rd round and the UDFA’s.

Its working out much differently of course, but in many ways McVay is simply mirroring Fisher's original plan.

* Bring in a top-notch defensive coordinator (Williams/Phillips)
* Sign a former Pro-Bowl veteran LT (Long/Whitworth)
* Sign a veteran center to calm the offense (Wells/Sullivan)
* Sign a solid WR, with number one potential (Britt/Woods)

And of course Fisher drafted a tonne of offensive players, including a 1st overall, a 2nd overall, an 8th overall, and a 10th overall.

So it's not like Fisher wasn't aware of what the team needed. The plan was good, the execution... not so much.

I can’t help but think Les Snead is a significant part as to why we have those players.

Yea Fisher IMO is the perfect coach to drag a franchise from the depths up to mediocrity. Something the Browns should look into if Hue can't do it

A lot of people act like Fisher was the ONLY thing that built this roster. Snead and Demoff had a hand in it to and Kroenke for that matter to give the go ahead to acquire personnal or trades.

Fisher did a great job of rebuilding 2 of 3 units, no doubt about it.

But I'm glad he's gone, because he was the chief impediment to making it 3 of 3, and now we have someone who decisively rebuilt the 3rd unit while keeping the other two intact.

Snisher = Snead + Fisher

I think Les asked what you want Jeff...and finds them...and Fish says, "He'll do".....so he gets some credit....Les more...MOST....

Fish fucked up hiring assistant coaches...friends...homies....and keeping them when they couldn't get err done. Only problem....the coaches couldn't develop the talent Snead brought in on the offensive side. Lost the respect of the offensive and defensive players along the way...I don't think anyone believed in Boras..and Weinke at the end...while many believed in Fassel and Williams....after a while, the defenders said, "why bother"....and the team was lost to Fish. Right around the NO game last year.

I still think Schotty could of figured it out with a better O-Line....and dude that left...Linehan???

Fisher laid a good foundation, I always said that's what he was doing but we'd need a younger, more offensive minded coach to get us over the hump (I also keyed in on Sean McVay very early, well before Fisher was fired, but that's just my little humble brag).

The only thing I'm not sold on is that Fisher is the one that really wanted Goff. We heard a lot of stories saying that they were split on who to take, and given that Fisher was fired and Snead stayed, that makes me think that Snead is the one that wanted Goff and made it happen. Wentz was always more of a Fisher type QB, but who knows.

Either way, I don't discount what Fisher did for this team.
