Wonder if they knew he needed the surgery before they drafted him

Probably not but they can't be worried, full recovery is assured even in regular slobs like us so a pro athlete will recover from this like a scratch.

On one hand, I'd be shocked if they didn't, because they do so much analysis on these picks that someone somewhere knows what the average size of their poo is.

On the other, if people did know, someone would have made a big deal about this. Because we make a big deal about everything involving high draft picks.

Yeah thats exactly the way I was thinking about it. Its hard to believe they didnt know, but equally hard to believe that info wouldnt have leaked.

But regular slobs like us don't test our bodies to the limit over 16 games plus maybe playoffs. If he makes it through the whole season without a recurrence of that injury then he's probably home free. I do very much want to see this man play after all of the "players like that come around in a generation" fanfare.

No, let's not. In all my years of organized baseball, football, and martial arts I broke a few bones, have gotten a few sprains, along with the assorted contusions and bruises but never once pulled a hammy or a groin muscle. My wife, the physical therapist, says that's because I'm not as tightly muscled as NFL athletes are. :sneaky:

J.J. Watt has hyperextended knee

Jadeveon Clowney isn’t the only high-profile Texans defender dealing with an injury. In addition to Clowney’s sports hernia, defensive end J.J. Watt has a hyperextended knee.

The injury happened during Thursday’s OTA session. Watt didn’t practice Friday.

He’s fine,” coach Bill O’Brien said, via Brian Smith of the Houston Chronicle. “It’s not serious at all. We just gave him the day off.”

Even if Watt is fine, the situation should serve as a reminder for Watt that, with three years of significant achievement and two years left under his rookie contract, Watt would be wise to try to get his long-term deal sooner than later.

The 2012 NFL defensive player of the year has been surprisingly quiet about his contractual status. Earlier in the year, some pegged Watt for a possible holdout. It appears unlikely at this point that Watt will take a stand. His knee injury, no matter how minor, should prompt him to reconsider that.

So you guys thinks hes a bust because he pulled his groin and is haveing surgery?

No they think he's a bust because he loafed through his final year at SC and are sick of hearing he's a generational player in spite of what their eyes told them about the guy. He's got a lot of dog in him and I-4-1 am damned glad we dint draft him. I doubt he ever lives up to being the first overall pick unless he grows up

Jadeveon Clowney unsure if he’ll be ready when training camp starts

Texans coach Bill O’Brien said Thursday that linebacker Jadeveon Clowney will be healthy at training camp in July after having sports hernia surgery last week, but Clowney wasn’t willing to say he’d be ready on day one.

Clowney said, via Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle, that he is feeling better after having the surgery, but that he’s taking the recovery day by day and wasn’t willing to declare that he’d be ready to go when camp opens. Clowney, who is learning a new position and a new scheme, will also be studying up while he rehabs.

“I’m still learning,” Clowney said. “That’s a big transition here.”

Clowney also said that the injury that led to surgery did not occur before he was drafted in May, although there were reports that Clowney had a slight groin pull at his pro day. Clowney said “there was a little pain” and that the Texans told him to take care of it now so that he’d be ready to go in time for the season.

Jadeveon Clowney says he played with sports hernia last year

When it was announced that Texans linebacker and first overall pick of the 2014 draft Jadeveon Clowney would be having sports hernia surgery, coach Bill O’Brien said that the surgery was the result of a groin injury that happened recently.

Clowney also said that he started feeling pain after being drafted by the Texans, although there were reports that Clowney was suffering from a groin pull at his pro day earlier this year. It seems Clowney has changed his tune, however.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that Clowney spoke to Gil Brandt of NFL.com at the Rookie Symposium on Thursday and told Brandt that he played through a sports hernia at South Carolina last season. McClain also reports that Clowney’s agent Bus Cook called it a groin injury that caused Clowney to think about sitting out the pro day workout.

That injury would explain some of Clowney’s disappointing 2013 performance with South Carolina, although it is strange that there were no red flags raised at the combine or elsewhere in the pre-draft process if the injury required surgery. It’s possible, of course, that things got worse as Clowney worked this spring. Clowney isn’t sure if he’ll be ready for camp, something that probably wouldn’t be the case if he’d known about and/or had surgery earlier.

Which brings us to the biggest issue for the Texans. The date that Clowney was injured isn’t nearly as important for them right now as the date that he’ll be fully healthy and ready to resume the transition to outside linebacker that he’ll be making in Houston.

We're all busting Clowneys balls, saying we're happy we didn't draft him. But how many of us would be praising him if we did, and instead would be saying "wow I'm glad we didn't draft Jason Smith 2.0, everyday he's strugglin." Lol. I hoped Clowney would fall to us so we could trade back. Poor kid tho. Kinda stupid tho. Your groin hurt the entire season, off-season, etc and you don't bother getting it checked out? Seems like a good strategy.
