"It is what it is."

"Great football play."

"Great golf shot."

There are plenty more but those 3 are my least favorite that I can think of at the moment.
Aww mannnn. :|

I use that first one all the time.
So do i. Usually when i'm asked to explain my actions or the actions of someone else and the expectations were originally set unrealistically by a certain party that is ummm...out of touch. Its a term i use in the workplace often. :ahight:

The one that really bugs me comes from players' mouths.

"I'm gonna Play Hard" or "Just Play Hard"

Players say this a bunch during interviews after games. Anything with "Play Hard" in it bothers the shit out of me. I mean really,,, as if you weren't going to Play Hard all of the time. Say something specific for the love of Jah. "Play Hard" .... well thanks for the fantastic insight there, now I get it.

From the dictionary you linked:
Marked by a mediocre uniformity of appearance or style:

I think this is where it comes from. It's a weak example of the penalty...so it is within uniformity with the rules but it's just not a good call.

I think, by far, the worst is "I just have to go out and give 110%."

One hundred and TEN percent?

Shut up.

You guys have some interesting pet peeves lol. I doubt anyone could do a broadcast for 3 straight hours without letting a few cliches slip.

The only thing that gets me is when an announcer hasn't done their research on a team and doesn't know what they're talking about.

When they call a draft choice the safest bet? Or has Pro Bowl talent?

Seriously. You guys are kind of anal. :ww:

I'm only bothered when the announcers are adding nothing of value.

Are you sure it's those phrases that drive you nuts or is it the fact that they think those things are true?

I mean over a game...not over a sentence. :ww:

It's 3+ hours of talking. Gonna have to be a lot of filler there. I couldn't do it.

Where's your ambition? You should try it sometime. In fact, you and (a poster of your choosing) should try to broadcast a game and see how it works out. Les could be a good color guy to your analyses. I'll give you Five Dollars (American) to give it a shot.

Ticky Tack.

This is the dumbest misused word by football announcers and fans. Seems to me it must have been used by someone who meant to say nit-picky or something and it stuck...because nowhere does the word ticky tacky have relevance to an official making a lame call.

No issue with that phrase.
