Scared of heights? Check out this Zip-Line...

Please allow me to set the stage here. I am Fucking Terrified of heights. I have a hard time just driving over high bridges and overpasses sometimes. I have to close my eyes in glass elevators. It goes on.

Anyway, my wife wanted to go on this zip-line on a volcano when we were in Costa. She didn't tell me it was the fastest and highest in the world. I found out when I was riding up the tram thing that rides you up the side of the volcano through the rain forest. The tram guy was explaining things on the ride up.

I couldn't chicken out when I got to the top even if I wanted to (I did want to btw) because there were 2 chicks from San Francisco up there going and when my wife said that I was a Ram Fan and scared of heights ... well you can imagine. I made myself go. It wasn't easy.

When the video starts, you can see my wife in the front waving to the maniac zip-line guide who takes her camera and videos one of the Zips... if you look closely as he leaves the platform, you can see me behind everyone else to the right sitting down trying not to look. I could barely pick up my arm to wave to the dude. HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA.

This was one of the shortest Zips. One of them takes almost 3 minutes to get across. There were a total of nine. You can get up to 60 mph on a couple of them if you are as heavy as me (200+).

Hahaha!!! That had to have taken some intestinal fortitude. I feel your pain. I'm OK with heights as long as I have something solid to hold onto or sit on so this would be fun for me but put me on the side of a steep mountain and I'm the guy clinging to the rocks afraid to move.

We have a nice zip line park near my house.

I'm not too keen of heights either. I had a very difficult time doing the course, but I did it.

Something else I failed to mention. The guide in the video slows down as he approaches the other end of the line because there is a way to brake yourself and slow down.

Me on the other hand... I refused to brake. I wanted off that shit and to have my feet on something as quickly as possible. My fat ass came-in HOT. I fucking slammed into the green pads at the end even with though the guide dude has a brake assist rope thing they use on you.

There was a lady from Switzerland who wore a short skirt that was in the group with us. Just so you know,,, you're supposed to spread your legs at the end to help with the stop,,, and the guide is staring right at your approaching ass. It starting raining like a monsoon half way through our deal... the guide was giving us a "play-by-play" on each of her landings. I think she wore the skirt on purpose.

I'm NOT afraid of heights, but there was one situation I allowed myself to be put into which was scary.

I was involved in some Community theatre set work and they didn't have proper scaffolding to set up the lights. All they had was a 15-foot ladder and one tall guy (me). To reach the lighting, I had to stand on the top step and use both hands to adjust the lighting. One of the other guys was also on the ladder below me, holding my ankles to brace me. We did this 3 times. 3 times I had to let go of the ladder, stand all the way up and reach out to change the angle of a light until someone told me it was aimed right.

Heights don't bother me after repairing Church steeples full time for a few years, but I can understand why that zipline would scare the crap out of someone afraid of heights

I did a great little tour on one of my trips to Jamaica.......we kayaked down a river after zip lining across it, about 300 feet up at the highest point, and alongside it through dense rain forest or jungle or whatever you want to call it. The guides and I were needling each other from the start, we just hit it off and they were goofballs like me and on the last leg of the zip line the one one the landing pad was waving and telling me to stop so I ended up stopped about 50 feet out and he started laughing. He cracked up as I hand over hand dragged myself in.

It's hard to do that because at that point the line isn't at a serious downward angle so you have to work at it. It's almost like climbing a vertical rope, you have to pull like hell.

Then we kayaked down the river. At the end where they picked you up to take you back to camp there was a tire you could swing on and jump into the river as it reached its peak. They were both taking hold of the tire and me and pushing me as hard as they could to get me flying up into the air. It was a lot of fun to go flying through the air like that.

I tipped the guys big after it was over, they were great. It was a fantastic day.

George next time you're in the Nipples area lets go parasailing lol.

I hear you about stopping short on the zip line. The guides explained that could happen if you slowed down too soon or also if you are extremely light. That's why I didn't use the brake method in any way... I was coming in full fucking speed at the end. If I had to do the hand over hand method to pull myself to the end,,, even if I was only short 10 feet,,, they would have had had to send someone out to get me. I would have been frozen.

On the ones we did there none of the really small girls that were 100 pounds or so had any problem making it to the end.


I hear you about Nipples Les. LOL The girls,,, and there were 3 that you didn't meet,,, just can't help themselves when there I guess.

There will be no parasailing however. Especially over that nude beach area I saw when we were in the boat the next day. :wow:

I watched a guy bounce right behind second base when his chutes failed to open. I was playing shortstop at the time. The skydiving place was across the street from our softball fields in Deland, FL. To say that that cured me of ever jumping is an understatement.

Yep - THAT's a rush. Not for those afraid of heights though. Although, it probably would have been even more kick ass if I were.
