The rule is in place is so teams do not constantly alter the game jersey, which sells the most, however, allowing the throwbacks would only increase jersey sales and would be better for the NFL. Again if a team moves, IMO, there should be some special consideration on uniforms, but Roger Stokoe Goodell continues to prove that from the neck up, he's worth a dime.
I'm going to guess that lightening up on this particular rule will only increase jersey sales. No one really thinks the NFL didn't look at college football and come up with the "Color Rush" concept - right? Does anyone think Nike would be worried about too much inventory if they were allowed to come up with a few different designs?

I don't think the NFL should go all Oregon Ducks but frankly, I think even that would be better than this idiotic rule. There should be some common sense exceptions in place and a big one would be if the team moved or opened a new stadium. Or maybe their city had a tragedy and they want to honor the victims, or reverting to an historically recognized style, or....

The way this rule is enforced is ludicrous.

i like how the NFL stops this Jerry and his cowboys would have a different uni once every 8 games
I wonder if Jerruh has to abide by this rule. He is the only one who controls his own merchandise revenue stream - right? You think when they did the black shirts, they had to notify the league two years in advance? It's hard to guess with a team like the Cowgirls. How many deviations would they even want to go with in that color scheme?

I cant fathom how the league looks at this mess and thinks its better to allow the Rams to look putrid, than it is to let them change.
Right? It's idiotic to not allow a team to go back to a scheme they wore for decades just because a non-sense rule is in place. Don't want to let the Eagles change to powder blue? Yeah - I get that. Make them go through a process. But the NFL is letting them wear the throw backs - hell, they're REQUIRING them to wear the throw backs for increased jersey sales revenue. To not allow them to wear the throw backs and even go with a white and blue as the new throw back is just being controllingly dumb.

What do most fan' buy? Jersey's.... Therefore from a retailer standpoint they don't want a stock of worthless merchandise because the team changed it every year. So it's smart to have that rule.
Meh. There are already a bunch of colors out there like pink, black, camo, on top of all the official colors. I'm ok with not allowing the team to change it every year but the rule as it is just lame.

There should be an exception for when a team moves, for example Ravens and Titans were not the same anything when they moved... So should not a Raider, Ram, Cardinal, team be allowed to change too
I'd argue that Hats are sold more often than jerseys. T-shirts next. Both of which can currently be bought with the blue and white. Jerseys? I've only owned 2 in my life time.... Hats? Gotta be over 50.

As for the team changing places, actually the Oilers were the Tennessee Oilers for a season, same uni. When they changed team name, it stands to reason why the logo had to change.

I get that they dont want change "every year", but the Rams havent changed uniforms in almost 20 years. MAking them wait 5 years is absurd

They did not don the horns back then though.

I'm thinking a red helmet with horns mash-up. Might be a little demonic looking, but it would be intimidating for sure.

And there are a multitude of different hats every year.

Maybe if I had the time, but not really. I spent a lot of time creating the different Helmet color combos along with the horn highlight & shadow. Now if I could just get the Rams to switch to this one...

I seem to remember that the 49ers wore their throwbacks every game in 1994, Young's Super Bowl year and paid the fine. I think it was the NFL 75th anniversary season, Rams last season in Anaheim before they bolted. Rams throwbacks that year was from the '50's. All yellow jersey with blue numbers and blue stripes on the sleeves (no horns on the jersey). It was a cool look. I remember either Chris Miller or Chris Chandler getting chased around the field.

On second thought, if the idea of not allowing teams to "change every year" was to avoid having jerseys that were outdated, then why can you buy these on the Official web site???

Nice job. I'd be good with that. It has a modern yet classic look to it.

That hasn’t stopped them from petitioning the league for flexibility to allow them to wear their throwback or color rush uniforms above and beyond the times NFL teams are permitted. At least for games in which they have to wear their blue jerseys.

They also requested permission to wear their throwback uniforms full time, provided they could still change to their new uniforms in 2019 or 2020.

But the league refused.

By the way, in case anyone is wondering, the throw back and color rush uniforms apply to the playoffs too.
The Pats wore their color rush uniforms last night.

And lol, we still have another full season to go thru after this year to suffer

It does feel like standing your ground, despite knowing it's not good for you. You would THINK the owners would be open to voting on an exception.

I do agree that there is good reason for the rule.

At the same time; good luck selling those gold jersey's regardless. The cat is out of the bag, the colors are changing. People are buying whatever they can find with white horns and throwbacks.

The gold merchandise is going to have to be discounted significantly to sell off anyway, IMO.
