I could see somebody like Singletary later on, but the Rams have too many needs within the next year to use a first on RB, especially since there were multiple they could have signed this offseason for cheap or close to it. If there's nobody they feel compelled to draft with their first round pick, then trade down and get more draft capital. Hopefully though there will be a good target at #31, or a decent offer to move a few picks down and a bunch of guys clustered so the Rams can still get one.

If the Rams FO believed it was “uh oh time” with Gurley, I can’t imagine they would have ignored the chance to spend a little more on a vet RB in free agency. Why wait until the draft to fill such a glaring need, and count on a rookie to pick up the protections, etc.?

This rumor just doesn’t make sense.

Not sure whether it’s “uh oh time” or not, but the Rams moves in FA tell me they trust that they can count on Gurley to carry most of the workload.

Yeah, if it was uh oh time with Gurley, I can't see them not signing CJ Anderson seeing as he did so well in this offense.

I am guessing this is more about if they trade down into round 2, then there is a chance a RB could have good value there and remember McVay made a comment about adding "explosive players". Not sure if Gurely is limited at some point that the Rams have any "explosive players" at the RB position and his offense needs that or at least thrives when having that threat.

Plus if they trade down then it is easier to take if they feel that the need/value match up better for a NT/OG in round 3 or 4.

What's really funny about this is he says we're meeting with 1st round running backs. Which by most estimations there is only one and we haven't met with him. The highest rated RB on his board we've met with is his #43 player.

I think there’s a better chance they draft a shortstop with the 1st round pick than and RB

I'd be completely surprised if we did that. You can get a quality RB well after the 1st round.... we like Brown and Kelly.....

you could wait on a RB till at least the 5th round..if you draft one at all....

actually I'd like us get a RB who can be a kick returner as well.....but again for that...you can wait till the late rounds or go UDFA

McVay loved Alvin Kamara the year he came out despite the fact he had a healthy Todd Gurley. Now with added uncertainty about Gurley's future, makes you wonder. Food for thought...

And taking somebody in the third would be radically different than taking a RB in the first. We know or suspect that Gurley shouldn't be used as frequently as he has been - so having a backup that is good is fine. It's just the Rams have other needs too, and can get a good RB later than the first to be running back 1b

Sanders will be overdrafted imo. I've watched him at PSU. He is nowhere near in Barkley's class. But he was a five star recruit. He's an agile glider type but never was a big tackle breaker. He's look good in some games and average in others. He never wowed me. His combine and workouts have people fooled imo..

Jacobs maybe. But haven't they looked closer at mid round backs?

I wasn't saying first round per se but if one were to drop into the 2nd with a trade down, I could see a scenario where we could draft someone like Sanders.

Only running backs I'm interested in with a third (which is the highest I'll go) are Devin Singletary and David Montgomery. No way we'll spend a top pick on a running back.
