Rams Fans: After Ten Consecutive Years of Misery, We Salute You

I am a life long Rams fan. Like many here I have seen the good and the bad. But had never really considered or even cared what the rest of the NFL or other teams fans thought about us until the point was driven home to me with the impact of a sledgehammer. A few years ago I was attending a class/lecture on the east coast all work related. The one I attended was a week long. These things consist of classes of 40 or 50 people from all over the country and overseas. Mostly the subject matter is pretty dry but can be interesting at times. It was the 3rd day and I was asked to say a few words to the class. Now I don't like public speaking but am passable at it if forced to do so. I had finished up and it was the end of the day the rest of the time became kind of a bull session with me leading. The subject of the NFL came up and was bounced around. Then favorite teams, with all chiming in. Then someone said, "Whose your favorite team?" I threw my chest out "Why the Rams of course." The entire class of 40 or 50 as one erupted with laughter. As if Robin Williams had just walked in the room. And I guess the look of shock on my face made it even worse. After awhile every thing calmed down and we moved on. For the rest of my time there I became a minor celebrity. I was the Ram fan. "Your the Ram fan Right?", "Hey its the Ram fan." Yep thats me.

Man, it's got to really suck thinking about how much you gave up to draft Goff #1 overall, and the Cowboys got a QB in the 4th round that's in the MVP conversation.

I, like many here, have developed a case of apathy lately.

I paid for The Sunday Ticket this year, but probably only watch three or so games. I am seriously considering not renewing in 2017 for the first time since 1998.

To me, so much is riding on the HC and staff decisions.

I am planning on taking a trip to the Coliseum in 2017. I've always wanted to see a game there.

Sure. Because that would have only been a tie game at that point.

Just have to hit Bruce on another 70+ yarder to win in OT.

We are loyal to the choice of our childhood self.

I'm still a Rams fan in the end but my passion for supporting this team dropped exponentially. Even I avidly supported this team back when they went 1-15 in 2009.

A lot of the NFL's politics made me sour my interest in supporting their product and I have a gut feeling their unsustainable business practices will be their demise; I just hope we can at least squeeze out winning seasons.

I sure miss coming here all the time. I miss the posters and I miss the mods, too. But as an ex-Rams' fan, I don't miss the Rams. Oh, every now and again I lose my mind and hope that something, anything they do will turn out right. But then I kick myself in the rear and remember how StanKroenke dissed an entire city in his rush to LALA Land and while that was no fault of the actual team members, boy, did it sour me on the NFL in general and the Rams in particular.

I have enjoyed hate-listening or hate-tweeting this season and that is sort of pathetic, I know. Especially when I know line up on the other side of the figurative ball are good guys like all of you. But try as I might have, I could not get past it and I guess I never will.

But you still have one heck of a forum in Rams On Demand; it's the best -- and easiest to use -- that I've ever visited.

I hope -- ONLY for your sake, those of you who frequent this forum -- that the Rams once more become a powerhouse. Not for StanK's sake or the NFL's sake, but for YOUR sake because you are a great community of posters and you DESERVE to be able to back a winner for once.

I am sorry that I can't get over it because, as I mentioned above, I sure do miss the camaraderie and reading all the posts that added to a wealth of football knowledge that I'll now never use again. But it sure was fun while it lasted!

Cmon now everyone. We are getting into the offseason now! The offseason is when the Rams are at their best. Name the last offseason that the Rams didn't make us all cream our jeans with a move like signing Quinton Coples or adding Jeff Garcia to the staff. This is our time to shine.

Its the regular season where everything turns to shit.

You do bring up an excellent point.

Yes, all the losing since 2005 or so really sucks donkey balls. But still - we at least had that season, that moment. I remember when it happened, all the losing of the preceding nine seasons was wiped away in an instant. Damn, that felt so f**king good, so vindicating, and nothing, NOTHING can ever take that moment away. Or that season for that matter, or even that era.

Was it all too short? Sure. But it beats the ever loving sh!t out of never having had it.

Think about the decades of misery the Cardinals endured ... and they got close to such a moment, but didn't get it. Their window is closing.

Think of the Browns, the gut-wrenching, heart-breaking, soul-crushing playoff losses of the 80's and the thin smattering of success they've had since then ... with lots and lots of losing as well. They never got the high we did, but they have gotten plenty of the lows.

How about the Falcons? They've had plenty of misery, some near successes, but have never been to the top of the mountain.

How about the Bills? Four crushing Super Bowl losses, and then they dropped off the map after the same season that we won it all - they haven't been to the playoffs in this millennium.

Vikings? Like the Bills, four crushing Super Bowl losses, no wins, and sporadic success since the 1970's.

There are other teams I could mention ... Jet and Dolphins, whose peak success was well over 40 years ago ... Eagles, no league titles in the Super Bowl era ... Chargers last won it all in the AFL more than 50 years ago ...

But the Rams? We, the fans (at least those who were on board from the 90's forward) did get something for all our pain. We got to witness one of the most dramatic, improbable turnarounds of a team ever, complete with a QB story too hokey for Hollywood but not for real life. We got to see our team go from dogsh!t to dominant practically overnight as week after week we crushed former tormenters (including the most satisfying regular season win ever for this Ram fan ... 42-20 over the 49ers). And we got to see them ride that all the way to the conclusion we had all wanted so desperately, a Super Bowl win.

So, to answer @BadCompany 's question, would I trade that one extra yard for 20 years of making the playoffs but never winning it all? Not only no, but F*CK NO!!!
