Well, he turned a contract with the Saints because he loves Los Angeles and Johnson needs to understand they have to sign Donald too. So, not a huge discount, but maybe a little.
Lol he can still go to the LA chargers

It's kinda funny reading all these points of view about our '18 draft needs. But it's also very interesting, at that. That's what fans do, huh?

My thoughts? This will become far, far more clear as we determine the contract status of TruJo and AD. Plus seeing how the season player strengths and weaknesses play out. It's possible, if not likely, that we will find strengths on this roster that were previously unknown. Weaknesses, too, unfortunately.

At this point, a good case could be made for possible biggest '18 need at CB, LB, Edge, LOT, or (gulp) QB.

I think it's 50-50 that we extend TruJo. And maybe 70-30 that we extend AD this year.

Each signing would create a domino effect of needs and affordability options for '18.

But first...

Let's enjoy the '17 season.

Again Johnson is a good corner, but I wish the Rams had ponied up for Jenkins who is one of the best corners in the NFL I don't think I break the bank for Johnson. I truly thought they would draft a CB this year, but they didn't so time for the likes of @jrry32 , @OldSchool , @BonifayRam , @jakebogen95 & others to get to work on who will be available in 2018 for the NFL draft because IMHO the Rams first selection will be Corner Back as they pay Aaron Donald first.

Who cares. Trumaine Johnson is a very good, but not elite-tier, cornerback that has issues staying healthy. He should consider himself lucky to have been paid as much as he was last season. And to be paid as much as he will be this season. I've got little patience for players with a total lack of self-awareness as to their abilities.

At least when Jenkins wanted to bet on himself, you couldn't honestly say he was wrong about thinking he was an elite talent. Credit to him for finally putting it all together last season.

Johnson's years as a Ram are numbered now and I'm fine with that. A replacement can be found. Save our money for when players that are *actually* as good as they think they are insist on getting paid. Like Aaron Donald.

It wasn't luck. He played his best ball in a contract year.

He's just trying to get what the market says he's worth. He was paid little for four years by the highly restrictive rookie wage scale.

Sign him or don't sign him, but the cost of resigning players is only going up.

Ehhh...if i'm the Rams i continue to negotiate a fair deal for TruJ but inevitably look at this as a one year rental of a good CB who needs to stay healthy and show me more in 2017.

Donald's contract should take priority regardless of how this TruJ thing goes.

Those guys can do all the work they need to do for 2018 , but right now it is 2017 season. I think some of these CB's The Rams have on there depth chart are going to be better than some may think ???

Hatefield a Dorsey High guy , The count , and Kevin Peterson .
MJ & Troy Hill have some valuable experience from last season. Should be exciting to see who steps up. Love preseason games.

There was a reason why The Rams did not draft a CB. I also think if these guys are stepping up then Tru' is less valuable to The Rams because if nothing else the Salary Cap . Then again maybe they believe Tru will give a bit of a discount if his words have Tru" Meaning ?

Wondering about D. Hatefields 40 time ? Is he still picking off Jared Goff passes ? I saw that photo of Blake Countess looking like had one in OTA's ?

For sure Donald is way more critical, it's not even close IMO.

Here's what I think. Not that anyone gives a rats azz LOL.

He and his agent have probably come up with a pretty accurate number for both years and dollars if he were on the open market and will hit the Rams with that. If they balk then IMO he stops negotiations and plays the 2 years he has left. The 5th year option won't pay that much, had he played under it last year it would have been a little over 6MIL. Next year it will be a little more but nothing major.

Maybe they did it to motivate him to work out a deal and get a big signing bonus because a player like him is really important to a team like this. If he doesn't sign they will have gotten 5 years of a near certain HOF DT for less than 18MIL in salary.

I'm not confident that he will work something out. The new rookie scale has fucked things up WAY more than helped. It has not delivered on the promise when it was installed.

Prior to the draft, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Saints were willing to trade a second-round pick to Los Angeles for Johnson, but he refused to agree to a long-term deal because he wanted to stay in L.A.[/QUOTE]

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Dagnabit this frosts me. If this trade had gone down we could have stayed put in the second round and taken Forrest Lamp and then have scored Gerald Everett with the Saints' pick we got for TruJo.

Man, now that would have a real shoutin' time for Rams fans, eh?

Oh well it is what it is I suppose......

So, because Tru won't negotiate a long term deal till after off season work outs are over, the Rams can't extend AD? Now I'm starting to have a problem with Tru. It is good to get as much as you can, but if he won't be reasonable about his price and they decide they are stuck with him on franchise tag money, then he is gone next year and he is full of shit about wanting to stay in LA. He fucks the negotiations for AD.....AAAAAGGG.

I'm quite sure any extension would be added onto his 5th year price so they would still technically have him for 5years at a cheap price. But by agreeing to an extension earlier will help the Rams lower the per year salary cap hit by putting some of the money onto his 5th year contract price.

If I had to guess the reason why trus deal is holding up AD's it would be because they want to see how much money they would have available to give to try up front. You shouldn't really affect AD's years or total money

I still don't know why we didn't pick up DRC last year for a cheap cheap contract. So bummed about it.

Negotiating 101.
Don't make a player the highest paid at his position in March and expect him to give half of it back in July.
And if he does know that if he gives 8m back this year it will cost you 12m guaranteed more over the life of the contract.
If the Rams really needed more cap to sign AD, which they don't, they shouldn't have FT Tru in the first place. Math is your friend.

As far as home town discounts go. I'll support it when I walk up to buy tickets or gear and they knock a big chunk off the price after I tell them how many decade's I've been a fan.

I'd likely go with an OT with the 1st pick. It's early but there look to be 4 or 5 worth a 1st round pick and if we don't resign GRob then we'll need a LT, keep in mind the class after him is all coming up on their 4th year next year. Also we need a long term replacement for Whitworth who knows how many years we'll get out of him. McGlinchy from Notre Dame, Rankin from Miss St, Williams from Texas, Ivey from Florida and Hyatt from Clemson.

Then again we could also see an EDGE with Barwin signed for 1 year and Quinn's medical back ground. That really depends on how Wade see's the young guys we have on the roster already though.

CB could be the option as 2017 looks like another bumper crop of them in college. Though I'd wager on OT as McVay tries to keep protecting Goff and road grading for TG.

I'm with you - The O-Line guys in next years draft are of excellent quality, much better than this years :)
