It cracks me up :snicker: when someone questions an NFL player's "toughness." Most of us have no idea what these men go through. I bet everyone of them lives with some level of pain from day to day, during the season and offseason. Give the guy a break.
Yeah toughness and durability aren't the same thing. I think it's pretty clear that Saffold has toughness.

Hogwash. All of us could fend off multiple defensive linemen for 60 minutes.
I don't even need both arms to do it.

I sprained my thumb once playing Madden. My wife told me to stop whining and man-up. True story.

You get one of those. If you sprain it every year, then maybe it's time to switch to board games.

I love Saffold when he's healthy but seriously, does anyone really expect him to stay healthy anymore? Wish him the best.
he does play through injuries when he can though. i wish his body was a bit more durable though. great lineman to have on the team.

The type of shoulder injury that Saffold appeared to suffer, seemed like happened with a basic block, with very little contact...Almost like he was reaching..... While minor, it seems like a reoccurring theme with him...but I bet he can play with it...

The line to me, at some times looked real good...every body was on a body...some great seals...especially the 1's & 2's....Barnes did alright...Jones had some good and bad...Looked like he tired....Getting blown back in the 3rd or 4th quarter...Rhaney played against scrubs...so who knows...So, the 1's, on the line, get a 1 drive "A"....

.

i could have sworn it was a wrist injury. all he did was push someone out the way. no twisting of arm into awkward positions. funny how it turned out to be a shoulder injury.

I don't understand this at all. Saffold was injured when he pushed a Raider with his LEFT arm! And now they are saying that his Right shoulder is the problem?
Is this a cover up?

Watching Saffold play over and over as initial contact was a minor hit with left shoulder on one defender on his nose and then as a very speedy Lofton at LB came quick trying to make the tackle a right shoulder that was put into Lofton who had a head of steam and Saffold seemed to absorb the hit as he grabbed his right arm to keep his shoulder stable. I know we'll build some extra padding that absorbs shocks better IF Rodger does make it back soon. Probably the hardest hit Saffold has had on that right shoulder since his surgery. Sometimes its just torn scar tissue that actually is not a bad thing to have it stretched out. I really think Roger will suck this up and with some trainers magic and some science we will have him back in the lineup. I do expect him to favor that shoulder and try to use the left one or his arms a lot more. Its gonna take time and this may happen a few more times this season as that scar tissue gets banged on. We NEED him.

I could have sworn Saffold returned to the game for a series or 2

Yeah, but then they'd make us shower and we'd lose all of our power to fend off anyone!

I hope that Saffold's injury is just a tweak and they just figured that it wasn't necessary for him to play with it as it was the first pre-season game.

On the NFL Network and ESPN, I get constant updates of preseason injuries for every team but ours. I have updated info on the Redskins, Vikings, Saints, Bears, Chiefs, Seahawks, Jets, Giants...

We still don't know anything more on EJ and that was from last week!

I would say Saffold is more durable than tough. He is able to start so many games consecutively because his injuries are usually minor and his body has held up fine in that respect. Durability could be questioned with someone like Bradford where he can't avoid getting seriously injured repeatedly.

Instead, Saffold starts most games but then goes down with some kind of minor nick that is obviously not serious when he finds his way back out there a few series later. Why is he constantly going down with small incidents almost every game and yet it never seems to be the case with the other lineman in that way? I can only guess that the guy is somewhat soft for a trench stuffer and pain that is commonplace for many lineman to deal with throughout a game overcomes Saffold for this reason.

Is he unlucky? Is he dealing with something beyond what the public is aware of? Or possibly he should man up for his team and show them they can trust him to be out there with them for the entirety of games.

I have no doubts that his current situation is nothing significant. The guy will be fine. Just get out there and play tough big fella.
