I think it's a function mostly of bad coaching, with bad personnel selection also factoring in.

For the prior 5 years, we had a HC who, while good for the defense and ST's, was miserable with the offense (as evidenced by miserable offensive staffs), compounded by too many bad picks on that side of the ball. For three years prior to that, we had a HC who was even worse, an utter incompetent/control freak, along with a GM who could never hit on draft pick past the 2nd round, and who left our cupboards bare. And for most of the three years prior to that, we had a HC who melted down under pressure and who was hampered by an aging roster and years of bad drafting prior to his arrival. The personnel selection under him was no better than his successor either.

Crap rolls downhill. I blame ownership first for the Rams dismal record. They're the ones who hired and stayed too long with the head coaches and general managers. Hopefully this time Kroenke has made a good decision by his hiring of Sean McVay.

Is it a coincidence that the two youngest teams have the worst records over the last 10 seasons?

#32 - St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams (46-113-1)
The Rams have never finished at or above .500 in the past decade, and they've won four games or less in five of the past 10 seasons.

#31 - Cleveland Browns (48-112)
The Browns finished 10-6 in 2007, but have won five games or less in eight of the nine seasons since.
Ouch! Its a damn shame that bad coaching in general has robbed younger players from blooming early in their NFL careers. Those stats hurt, but thats truth. I still can't believe it took this long to get back on track.

I think if Bradford never gets hurt, they have some success even with Schottenhiemer as OC. So even if he moves on at that point, maybe Fisher could attract another decent OC.

I think the problem was nobody expected Fisher to survive even into his 4th year, let alone 5. So nobody worth a damn would come here for a one and done year, especially with no QB, to be the OC.

It is a shame in some respects, a healthy Bradford and they likely become a solid team, although OL consistency seemed to allude them along with team discipline.

So maybe Broudeau and ability to draft OL would still have been their ultimate downfall.

They did waste the Ram careers of JL, Long, Jenkins, and a few others that should have been on winning teams.

On the other hand young teams that rapidly improve have turned into dynasties as well.....

Cardinals have the NFL’s oldest roster

Led by 37-year-old quarterback Carson Palmer and 34-year-old receiver Larry Fitzgerald, the Cardinals are a team that’s getting long in the tooth.

According to the NFL, the Cardinals had the oldest roster in the NFL in Week One, with an average age of 27.47 years. No other team had an average age over 27.

And despite the old age of the Cardinals’ Week One roster, they got even older this week: Arizona cut 23-year-old linebacker Scooby Wright and replaced him with 32-year-old linebacker Philip Wheeler, and put 25-year-old running back David Johnson on injured reserve and replaced him with 31-year-old running back Chris Johnson.

The Cardinals currently have an NFL-high 16 players on their roster who are 30 or older.

After finishing a disappointing 7-8-1 last year, the Cardinals are 0-1 to start this year. If they miss the playoffs again, it may be time for a rebuilding project — one that would see a large number of 30-and-older players sent packing.
