I don't think this is it myself because if he could grasp Schotty's, this is similar but easier,
It took him three years to even start showing any type of understanding of Schotty's offense. Now he has to learn something new. It's supposed to be easier but that doesn't change the fact that it's still something new for him to learn.

If that isn't what it is then Fisher needs to just come out and say what it is because I have no idea what else it could be. If it's not due to injury or not understanding the O, the only other thing I can think of is the coaching staff just being stupid for not playing him. It's very strange and frustrating.

Good point. I never really considered that learning the playbook is what held him back in his first seasons. That seems like a very long time to tolerate that though.

Then allow me to help you with a suggestion.

Mayhaps it's just the rust and awkwardness of somebody coming back from a normally career ending injury? Just because he's not unhealthy doesn't mean he's 100% back up to speed, this isn't Madden, you don't just completely get over injuries immediately and never worry about them again after a specific period of time. This injury was so big the primary worry was how he'd just go back to living normally, the fact that he's playing football still at all is amazing.

It's 2 games, you guys need to relax, there's a lot of real things the coaching staff could be held accountable for instead of sitting around wringing our hands over somebody who's not burning the world 2 games back from a major injury.

Didn't Cignetti say the offense basically stayed the same? The whole "foundation" of the house is set up. I mean, it's not like we brought in somebody running Chip Kelly's system. Cignetti has been here for a while and all the terminology is the same, the only things that changed are some new plays added in (still same terminology, shouldn't be too hard to understand) and Cignetti calling different plays in different circumstances.

Well, he's gotten some snaps behind him and gotten the bye to settle in. We'll see his production increase sharply very soon, IMO. Quick will be fine.

I've heard different things now so I don't know. I initially heard the verbiage would stay the same but some of the plays would be different.

Yeah, I'm honestly not sure how different the offense is. Tavon doesn't seem to be having any problems picking it up, so I'm of the mind that it's not too different. But who knows?

We might never know what's going in with Quick either. They might be telling the truth on him being rusty and all that, or it might be something else entirely.

If he doesn't start going soon though, I don't know if he'll ever be the same player again and I don't think we re-sign him. He needs to prove himself this year. Hopefully he gets a chance to.

I'm curious as to why people think Quick had trouble learning the playbook and has a of lack of intelligence. His learning curve in the NFL was learning how to play WR. He was a basketball player who didn't start playing football until late in high school. At Appalachian State, I don't think he ever had a position coach, had never been taught to run a route tree, and basically got by on pure athletic talent (sort of like "go deep, cut right at the red Chevy and I'll hit you"). During his first year in the NFL he was having to learn a lot more than the playbook. I think his lack of playing time is due to his coming back from a devastating injury, not lack of smarts. He seemed like a pretty bright kid to me.

little bit off the wall here, but I say keep him out there as a distraction for a few more games. Then release the Krakken when the Rams make a playoff run.

IOW let him get on the field and get the playbook down pat and get up to NFL speed. Then later in the season start targeting him like he was last year. Opposing teams wont see it coming

I don't think what ever the problem was is a concern now. I think he gets more chances this week. That's dependent of course, on how the game plays out. If we get and hold an early lead, it should be all Gurley all the time. On the other hand, if we're playing from behind, he'll get his looks. It's just a matter of how things play out. I do expect to see more of him on running downs as his ability to block is quite good.

Care to share where you are getting this? My understanding is that he was a raw project with great physical tools. His issues were supposedly more learning route running, how to use his body against NFL players, and yes... even at first learning a much more elaborate playbook than anything he had in college. Sure it took him longer than any of us would like. But his development was severely hampered by the injuries to Bradford. Many of us noted how Clemens wouldn't even look at him when he was wide open - likely because KC simply couldn't make the throw.

And how does Fisher need "to just come out and say what it is" because you have no idea? You really expect him to come out and detail why every player is or isn't getting the number of snap counts or targets you or any of us think they should get? The last thing Fisher needs to do is worry about keeping us informed on everything he sees or does during a game. Last week Quick had 3 targets. Britt had none. Do we need him to tell us why? Why didn't Harkey get any? How come Mason didn't touch the ball? Why was Benny only targeted twice?

Quick is coming off a severe injury. Even with that, his second game back, he got 3 targets. He's getting his game speed back and his targets will no doubt come with it. No amount of explaining by Fisher will change any of that whether he is targeted more or not.

I don't mean to sound snippy, so excuse me if this does, but what in the world made you guys think he was going to shrug off such a major injury that it should have ended his career like it was nothing in the span of 2 games? Just because you wanted him to?
Vicodin?

@Merlin and a couple others..I have been a lil confused by his absence as well...And agree with your points...except for not playing Cook and Britt with Quick, Austin and Gurley...Tavon and Sted should be the slot guys that run plays in and out or manipulate formations....
I'm about to write an open letter to Jared Cook...let him know how I feel...And that I still have faith in him...Just like Quick....
these two, with Britt are our game changing wide outs...with a lil slice of Tavon & Sted & Kendricks on the side...
