CB Marcus Sayles was added to the practice squad.

West Georgia
Senior 5’10” 170
#19 Cornerback

Marcus Sayles is an extremely fast and explosive player that can contribute right away on special teams.

  • Sub 4.4 forty
  • Blocked 13 kicks in his college career
  • Played primarily corner to the field
It’s tough to evaluate these smaller school guys due to film being hard to come by, but Sayles could be a steal for a NFL team this spring. Although Sayles is undersized, his speed and ability to explode off the edge should turn some heads of NFL scouts over the next few months. At West Georgia, he was asked to play the corner to the field meaning his coaches trusted him to make plays in space. Granted, his competition was far inferior compared to what he’ll see in the NFL, but he still was able to consistently break down and make tackles in the open field. That’s asked a lot in special teams, maybe that can translate to the pros.

His biggest strength is his ability to come off the edge on blocking field goals and punts. Thirteen blocked kicks over the span of his career is something that stands out at any level of football. During an interview on our podcast, he said that his special teams coach schemed the blocks where Sayles would have a chance at it. His burst off the line resulted in several blocked kicks because he was so quick off the ball that he couldn’t be blocked.

His size and competition are the two biggest knocks against him. He’s better at special teams than playing corner. The biggest question is can he earn a roster spot on special teams alone.

Was really hoping that we took a flyer on Collins. He's had his struggles but he's started on a good team. Probably used to this playoff atmosphere.

Am i the only one confused on how Webster got a concussion? From what I remeber, dude got blasted in the stomach and flew back a couple feet landing on his stomach. I thought he would have got injured in the midsection area, but a concussion?

Kevin Peterson— active for 6 snaps on D against Washington, gives up the winning TD, then cut.

I hope Lamarcus can be a backup cb if needed.

Still remember Troy Hill getting torched in preseason.

Glad they are trying to address the issue, but... not many good options.

Sayles got some good raw speed and he's a nice ST depth option for now. IMO we don't have enough SPEED in our secondary, and while Sayles is unlikely to break out as a cover option I like the PS addition.

Curious if Snead uses his "bomb one position heavily in the draft" strategy and draft at least 3 DBs high.

Need some speed back there which might be tough to find in FA. And of course FA will dictate the draft since OL will need some help as well.

Hopefully they can move down in the 1st and get an extra 3rd and even move down in round 2 as well so they can accumulate more picks.

Important to add 3 or 4 contributors in the draft next year to take that next step.

Blocked 13 kicks?
That's insane.
