If a guy like this makes it, he would be similar to Anquon Boldin. A physical guy that out fights you & out physicals you for the ball. He doesn't have speed, but he has a skill set that the Rams can develop.

The key will be can he learn to run routes? He stated in an interview he was working on his route tree because he only ran 3 routes in college.

Good he can catch but he has below average speed for his size at 6’1”. If he was was bigger, say 6’3” or more he might have a good chance, but not in the NFL. But who knows, the way he seems to catch anything thrown his way he might have a chance, a slim chance. Chis Carter had below average speed for his size at 6’1”.

The kid does get open and catch the ball so a WR needy team should take a shot.

The Rams need a good high point receiver in the red zone - something Reynolds/Higbee/Everett don't do very well.

I don't recall a time any of them were targeted in the red zone.

That somewhat supports my point. They should be often. However I also remember a number of times Reynolds couldn’t complete the high point transactions most vividly on a lame attempt on his part to go after a bomb from Hekker??? On a fake punt in the end zone.

You mean that play that would have been defensive pass interference, but pass interference doesn't exist on fake punts?

That's an example. I watched the play 5-6 times and while pass interference is legal in that instance and had some bearing - Reynolds stopped well short of winning that ball and his attempt was pretty lame. I chalked it up to one bad play until I never saw Reynolds part of a successful high point throw and catch. He does seem to have decent hands and route running skills though.

We'd have a spot for a UDFA WR to compete … We got Hodge right now as our 5th WR.... don't see us keeping Natson now with Henderson and Nick Scott on the roster.... meaning we can keep a big body WR around to develop without having to use a WR spot as a return specialist

didn't he also make a lame attempt on the last play against philly which could have won the game for the rams, or locked up the scores? i remember being really negative towards him after that game.

He's pretty clearly on the bubble. 8 receptions in 3 seasons, and cutting him in favor of a rookie UDFA saves the team $225k - and they don't have a lot of cap room. He is going to have to outperform some of the other options by at least a bit.

That would be his best chance at keeping his roster spot. But keep in mind he costs hundreds of thousands of dollars more than a rookie, and cap space is tight. He needs to be enough better that the coaches think that others can't be coached up to close to his level.

Frankly, if you haven't established yourself as either a significant player for regular plays, or a key special teamer, by your 4th year, you are seriously on the bubble. If they cut a rookie who is nearly as good to keep Thomas, that likely means they will have to find another rookie to replace him next season. In any case, with a team with cap issues like the Rams, keeping Thomas unless there is a real advantage hurts them this season and possibly next season.
