They are so hard up it’s ridiculous. The signing bonus is more than he’s worth.

I don't get the 1-year deal. Could be a good incentive to get Jackson in sooner. That money is way out of the Rams budget. I thought maybe a longer term with less money per year and incentives might work for the Rams. It is good OBJ got a nice deal and look forward to seeing what he does. Local Philly gets the Ravens on TV.

Lots of money to OBJ but he won’t even lead his own team in receptions. OBJ will be running routes to free space for Marc Andrews who will continue to be Lamar Jackson’s favorite receiver.

I knew OBJ wasn't going to be a Jet. Why? Because they made it clear that he had to take a physical focusing on his knees. Stupid Ravens didn't make him take a physical. OBJ dodged the Cowboys because they also required a physical. So IMO it will be a question of how long will his knee hold out. OBJ knows it's not likely to do so for a full season which is why he's walking away with a cool $15M guaranteed. That is his retirement fund. Note that $11M is guaranteed in 2024 when he's not under contract. This is why I keep saying it's all about the guaranteed money, nothing else matters.

That is why the Rams could sign someone like Ngakoue to a long term contract by simply deferring most of the 2023 money to a fully guaranteed void year. That's why the Rams could still make a splash signing after the draft as it wouldn't affect the comp picks. This is why I've been saying over and over we need to wait and see what the Rams ultimately do in the draft and after the draft before TC.

Just as a hypothetical example, look how it would change this defense if Ngakoue or an edge like him is signed after the draft. Look at how that would change the Ram draft if they had a deal already in place with him or a player like him. Suddenly this team isn't fighting to stay out of the cellar they are contending for the division title, aren't they? It would also free up that number 36 pick to trade up into the first round for the next franchise QB. Goff proved they didn't miss on him. He has proved they picked the right one between him and Wentz. It was simply a matter of Goff not being McVay's choice for QB.

The season hasn't begun and there are a bunch of things the Rams might do that would change the whole complexion of this coming season. We need to be patient and wait and see what happens.

I maybe in the minority on this. Good for him. He has a ring, he is healthy, and this is generational money he signed for. So good for him. His career, like most players is based on limited time, will be over sooner than later.

GOOD LUCK OBJ, appreciate that amazing catch in the SB.

Jackson reportedly wanted OBJ. Ravens are apparently trying to keep him happy to the extent possible.
Right I posted the tweet saying that, which led me to question why signing him is a big FU to Jackson.

He has made $83m so far in his career. This contract is just the icing on top.

Point being that they're paying everyone other than Lamar. That said, now that the structure of the contract has come out that is a less valid point.
They've offered him a contract. They've franchise tagged him with that money set aside on their current cap. They're trying to get him signed it looks like the biggest road block is he's his own agent or his mom is or some such shit. They're trying to get him in and this proves it because he pushed OBJ and the Ravens together proving even further that they are trying hard for him. Personally if it was the Rams I wouldn't want Jackson back because of his injuries. Has he ever played a full season? Actually just checked he hasn't yet he wants a fully guaranteed contract? Good luck with that.

On top of it, they hit him with the transitional tag so he can still see if he can get a better deal. I have a hard time thinking that Lamar is a victim for having to play on a 32 mill guaranteed deal

Yeah, I agree the injuries are a HUGE concern. That play style is just not conducive to a long career.

So glad we didn't bring back OBJ or trade for CMC midseason...made no sense then to trade all that captial for a non QB, Edge, or CB...and it made no sense to bring back OBJ when we are in the middle of retooling our offense and drafted someone like Tutu Atwell. Time to stop letting our 2nd and 3rd round picks ride the bench and lets see what they got.
