Finally we have two home / primetime games in a row! After beating the Bears we face the dominate Ravens team on Monday Night Football. After watching the Ravens manhandle the Patriots and Texans its obvious the Ravens are in full swing and has all the momentum to get them deep into the playoffs. As it sits right now they are one and two in every offensive statistical category except passing (23rd). On Defense they are in the middle of the pack and 7th in rushing yards allowed. All in all they are a very good team that has a unconventional offense that uses their players abilities to the fullest. Not to mention Jackson can absolutely wreck your day with his legs.
So how do we beat this team? How do we slow down Jackson?

My first thought would be to play them much like we play the Seahawks. Every year we do a pretty good job limiting Wilson's ability to turn a game into a backyard football game. So the key would be is to slow rush Jackson, do our best to keep him in the pocket and create pressure from the pocket collapsing. Easier said than done, as I think Jackson is more athletic than Wilson but not a better passer. Lets face it the Hawks only beat us earlier this year because of a missed FG and a couple of lucky charm passes caught by Lockett. I digress, winning this game will be a huge challenge for us. Keep Jackson contained is No.1 Priority.

The next challenge is our Offense vs....Well anyone at this point. Again, our offense has been our biggest problem this year and for many reasons, injuries, lack of vision, playcalling, bad play by our vets, etc etc. So this is where we're going to have to play our best game of the season. Mistake free, turnover free football on Monday. Not to mention McVay is going to have to do a faster job adjusting to what the Ravens defense is doing to slow us down.
Being realistic I know all of those boxes wont be checked or fixed by Monday night so again we're going to have to simplify our gameplan and run the ball with authority and play keepaway from the Ravens offense. Our biggest need will be to SUSTAIN DRIVES. We cannot keep on going 3 and out and expect to keep this game close. Jackson and Co are waaaay to talented and our Defense will be gassed if our offense leaves them hanging.

Here's a few other great idea's I had.

-Put Xlax in their Gatorade before the game.
-Have Cooper Kupp cough in their faces when they land in LA this week.

Rams will need some luck and some turnovers to win. Rams need to control the LOS. Ramball (bless his heart) has invited me to go with him to this game. So you all will possibly hear me as I am the loudest person on the planet. Been to seven games since the Rams have moved back to the Colesium and they've won all of them.

I think it will be an extremely hard battle.

Defense - I agree on the OP's assessment. I feel they can contain enough big plays from Jackson both from his running and passing, (for some reason it sure did look like that's what our D was doing last night against the Bears, but I'm not sure why?)

Offense - Well....last year I would say we could hang with this caliber of team no problem. Now we say...."Hey, our D can hold them to FGs and we score TDs.......but now our D really has to hold them down while our Offense sputters around for a FG here and there.

It's hard to say what the Ravens defense will do.....do they care enough to put an 8 man front or the 6 man (what is that one called again?). I will say if Goff and Gurley are on, Ravens will need their offense.....if it continues to be the same as all year........... :-(

If I could salvage anything out of another bad Rams offensive showing it would be the Defense holding their own.......just PLEASE do not look like the Bucs game!

I'm a huge University of Louisville fan so I love that Lamar is doing so well so this game is going to be a huge conflict of interest for me. I'm hoping Lamar has a good game but the Rams win going away. Their WR's don't scare me(need to watch Hollywood Brown going deep) but Andrews and Hurst are very talented TE's.

Use Littleton to spy on Jackson, very few blitz packages, and press man coverage

Not sure our edge group can hold up. Fowler in particular, his weakness is he discounts the edge responsibility at times in his rush. Ebu same. But then again I have to think Wade and company are going to coach them hard on the contain and try to keep him in the pocket. If they focus on that and stuff Ingram the defense will have us in this game IMO. Easier said than done of course.

I'm hoping this becomes a Ravens 'trap' game where they underestimate our deeper talents.

Like yourself, the first thing that comes to mind when defending against Lamar Jackson is something similar to how we gameplan Russell Wilson, and we've usually done a fairly good job of it. The Rams D can go up against anybody so long as our offense maintains better time of possession and doesn't let the defense become exhausted. Running the ball successfully will eat up the clock and allow McVay to pick and choose his passing plays more wisely, taking pressure off of Goff, our depleted WR corps, and our young developing OL.
A victory against the Ravens will send a strong message back to the league that the Rams are still a tough team not to be trifled with or underestimated. jmo.

I think Wade broke out the 3 CB trio of Ramsey/Hill/Long against the Bears in anticipation of this game. Would expect to see alot of 4-1-6 in this game - lots of Rapp and Christian playing in the box.

Speaking of Christian, he has been playing great since Ramsey came along. What an amazing break up he made on the deep pass which would have been a TD for the Bears.

Try to force the crows to pass the ball. That young running QB of their's will break out and run though... and when he does we need to lay the wood to him. We need to treat him like we would treat any RB in the league. Knock the shit out of him.

Just remember... there's no such thing as an old running QB.

Run the ball. A lot. Maintain time of possession. Limit the turnovers. Hopefully we get Woods back. Defense will be fine. Offense needs to step up. O-line.. are you listening? If the Rams can beat the Ravens, they will earn a lot of respect. Hope Donald has a monster game and sacks Jackson 2 or 3 times.

Ravens are easily the hottest team in football right now and arguably the most complete. Their secondary very talented and deep. It allows the Ravens to blitz at will. This helps pick up the slack from a front 7 that is solid but doesn't overwhelm anybody by themselves. It's all predicated off its talented man-to-man corners and elite safeties.

Offense? Ravens offense needs no introduction. But I think the Rams match up with them sneaky well. Their WR's are not deep. They have several good TE's, Andrew's their 1. Unfortunately for the Rams, I believe the Rams D will be on the field a lot due to the Rams' stalled drives. Ravens are built to play the aggressive style of D that has appeared to give the Rams headaches for most of the year.

Going to take a heck of an effort. Just remember how much LJax likes looking to his TEs as a passer.

Offensively if they can't sustain drives and score TDs instead of FGs they're cooked. You're not going to hold this Ravens team down in a defensive struggle.

Ravens are our hardest game this season. I think Littleton and especially Rapp will keep Jackson honest from going on long runs. We just need Matthew's not to shoot past him like he did over and over again with Wilson. Ramsey will take care of Hurst.

If we can protect Goff and open lanes for Gurley like we did last night,we have a chance. Slim one, but it's there.

The Ravens defense is okay - statistically it's close to ours except yards per play which is a big indicator - and the reason for that being bad but their D looking good is time of possession - their D is on the field 25 minutes a game, ours 31.

I love our D but it's not realistic to expect them to shut the Ravens down. Our offense will have to go back to being elite for us to win.

I've been thinking for weeks that for this game Rapp will be the go to guy to spy/contain Jackson. That young speed and good tackling skills are what we will need.
