Good hustle, but I expect Ramsey to shrug it off like this once he gets a new contract

The only people on the planet who will now have to replace their jerseys is likely to be Hill's immediate family. :)

According to NFL.com, Ramsey shelled out $20,000 to buy the number from Hill, and Hill definitely didn't waste any time in accepting the deal. Ramsey was already wearing the new number during his first practice with the Rams, which took place just two days after the trade.
That is not a hefty sum....but 200k is. Money has a diff value these days....the Fed keeps it that way.

20k is not a hefty sum????
Give me a freakin’ break man
That 20k was for swapping jersey numbers, not teaching a bunch of snot-nosed kids for the year.
WTF
Man i remember when I was dead broke and living in a cockroach infested apartment scrounging quarters from my sofa for Jumbo jack money
I have come a long way since then but 20k is still a whole lot of fucking money then and now
* save the Fed bullshit stuff - go try living in France and then report back all your ills

Damn right. I get limited funds from the government because I'm disabled...and 12K is a lot for me.

20K is a real hefty sum, and I totally agree with you, Dieter.

Yup, and that's what I think SteveBrown meant, when I read the title I thought it must have cost him 100k or more. After reading that it was 20k I was like "that's it?"

BULLSHIT

If it was peanuts would’t have Jalen Ramsey offered a box of cracker jacks and a box of Sees brittle? And why didn’t Troy Hill, who makes millions, not ask for a jar of planters instead of accepting Ramsey’s offer if it was proverbially of little or no consequence?

Only examples you can possibly give to back up that statement would be to highlight a few knuckleheads who “make it rain” you know, those new money gangster stereotypes. Maybe VY.... but yeah just a handful of examples starring egomaniacs — totally ignoring the vast majority (like over 95%) who know exactly what 20k means.

To a player making millions that 20k is even more vital.

What i think is funny is when fans look at athletes who get paid millions and sits out - like Ramsey - looking for more money say to themselves “when’s enough enough?”
The answer is it’s never enough.

So I call 1000% bullshit on your comment.

Like the example of my upbringing, I had it barrio style. I didn’t have a dime. I do now and it still keeps me up at night thinking of losing it all. I have to pray hard to set aside those feelings of fear. Just like many of the players who are in the league that have come from nothing. Forgetting where you are from and that you are blessed to be compensated so well for what you love just doesn’t happen. Unless you’re part of that VY make it rain crowd. But look at Antonio Brown - don’t tell me 20k don’t mean nuthin’. Dude’s got both his pads up for sale looking to get liquid fast. As soon as he can jump back in the league he will. Why??? Cause 20k matters. It matters a whole lot to Millionaires. Even more so.

Do the math to see how important 20k is:
$20,000 x50 is 1,000,000
So what you call peanuts 50 times over makes up a million.

The thing any millionaire knows about money is that it all adds up

It's a lot of money. Throwing money around like that very occasionally given what he makes might be fine. Wanna bet that he does other expensive purchases that have zero residual value? There are reasons that so many professional athletes end up broke. Not all - many are smart about their money. Others buy mansions which they modify in ways that actually reduce the resale value, and buy outrageously expensive cars that lose most of their value when they drive them off the lot, and buy insanely expensive clothes that again have no real value, or custom jewelry that again has tiny resale value.

Troy Hill did the smart thing. He got $20k before taxes for something that is at best an ego boost, and likely not much of one. 10 years from now he'll be happy about it. I doubt if 10 years from now that Ramsey will be happy about that. He very well might not care, but there is a chance he'll be unhappy having wasted that money, especially if he throws money around in similar ways consistently.

Peanuts.

He's made $23m in his first four years in the league. He's gonna make another $13m minimum next season or he will sign an extension for $60+m.

You think he gives a fuck about 20k to get his number? He probably has marketing deals in place for that number. Or he just wants that number for no other reason than to have it. He still wouldn't care about that 20k.

I forget what Rickey Henderson paid when he went to the Blue Jays, but he figured it was cheap in comparison to changing all his bling to a new number.
