I find players like this interesting. “Nobody knows that to do with them” or opinions vary significantly.

Where does this guy fit in the NFL?

I guess a Taysom Hill type? A 2nd seems rich for that.

Jalen Hurts has a strong message for teams entering NFL Draft

There are quite a few quarterbacks that have had their name mentioned as a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but Jalen Hurts isn’t one of them. With a little over a month until this year’s draft, Hurts has a strong message for teams that need a quarterback.

View: https://twitter.com/brgridiron/status/1236719877676830727?s=21

Hurts began his collegiate career as the starting quarterback at Alabama as a freshman. Over the course of his first two seasons at Alabama, Hurts combined for 4,861 passing yards, 40 passing touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.

Besides his passing numbers, Hurts also added 1,809 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns in his first two years in college. However, in his junior season, he would be benched in favor of sophomore, Tua Tagovailoa. Of course, Tagovailoa is also set to enterthe 2020 NFL Draft with Hurts.

Even though he remained at Alabama for the rest of the season, Hurts decided to enter his name into the transfer portal in 2019. Not long after, the former Crimson Tide would play his senior season at Oklahoma.

In his lone season at Oklahoma, Hurts put together the best year of his collegiate career, throwing for 3,851 yards, 32 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He also gashed opposing defenses for 1,298 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground.

But as a mobile quarterback, Hurts appears to be the next prospect that teams are wary of selecting at quarterback. Despite teams asking him to possibly switch positions, Hurts has continued to work tirelessly to become a better quarterback. While he isn’t considered to be a first-round pick, Hurts is prepared to prove his critics wrong in the near future.

CGI Ram - I’ve been a Draftnik for a long time & if this guy is still around at 52 The Rams will take him over an Offensive Lineman.
Tua is entering the draft & then you look at the last 2 number 1 picks ? Hurts numbers were right there Then look at a guy from SEC Dak Prescott.
This is a guy McSnead would call a playmaker. The Rams have that backup QB
Slot open as well.
I made a Rod play last season about The Rams not drafting a QB.( Even though I lost on St.Louis BattleHawks. The reason there though was C. Jones is horrible & he got benched.) This season I’m saying The Rams will not draft a O”Lineman & if they do a QB will be drafted as the roster is set to look right now. The Rams probably bring back Whit & Blythe (veteran). My reasoning is teaching & devolving as well.
NE might draft him before The Rams would even have a chance though.Still early.

Not sold on him, unfortunately his teams were very good at OU and Ala. He looked pretty good throwing to wide open guys but when things got tough he was a little shaky. People are wondering if he and Mayfield aren’t creations of Lincoln Riley f

He’s an incredible athlete. Just not good enough as a passer.
Not good enough YET...
Could be a modern age Slash, although not the flash in the pan that Kordell was when he finally started at qb.
Maybe a team like Green Bay where they have a qb for the next 4-5 years but could groom him in the meantime

Jalen Hurts gaining interest from two new teams ahead of Draft

Jalen Hurts might not burst onto the NFL scene right away, but teams are doing their homework on the former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback. Hurts projects around the 2nd or 3rd round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

According to ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper, a late first round selection for Hurts, say to the New England Patriots, should not be ruled out. He believes the Pittsburgh Steelers could also trade up and snag the signal caller.

Besides the late first round and mid-round buzz, NFL insider Ian Rapoport revealed two other teams who are monitoring Hurts closely.

“Two interesting teams who have been in touch with and monitoring #OU QB Jalen Hurts: The#Packers and the #Chargers,” Rapoport tweeted. “Both had meetings set up with him and have done virtual calls. Both have a veteran (of varying degrees) in as the starter and are expected to look to the future.”

The Chargers, seemingly linked to any quality quarterback to replace current starter Tyrod Taylorafter Philip Rivers departed via free agency, are a logical fit for Hurts due to the similar skill set to Taylor. Both are decent throwers of the football and are very nimble on their feet. Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn is a fan of Taylor, perhaps why Los Angeles did not make a move for free agent quarterbacks Cam Newton and Jameis Winston. The Chargers drafting Hurts would likely pan out with him sitting behind Taylor for a year or two while working in certain offensive sets to utilize his skill set with the ball in his hands.

The Packers are the most interesting team to be reportedly scouting Hurts. While teams like the Patriots, who are trying to replace Tom Brady, and the Steelers, who are nearing the end with Ben Roethlisberger, make sense from a quarterback standpoint, the Packers feature Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is a longtime veteran but appears to have more than two or three seasons left in his career, at least with the Packers.

Under Matt LaFleur in 2019, Rodgers played well by completing 62 percent of his passes and throwing for 4,002 yards, 26 touchdowns and just four interceptions while leading Green Bay to the NFC Championship. LaFleur’s offensive strategy tailors to molding the offense around the quarterback, particularly ones who can move in and out of the pocket, like Hurts.

Hurts completed nearly 70 percent of his passes last season at Oklahoma, throwing for 3,851 yards with 32 touchdowns against eight interceptions. He also added 1,298 rushing yards and 20 more scores on the ground en route to Heisman finalist honors.

Before transferring to Oklahoma, Hurts led Alabama to the National Championship as a freshman and back to the big game the following year. He was replaced at halftime by Tua Tagovailoa during the win but remained with the team the next season (2018). After an injury to Tagovailoa in the SEC Championship, Hurts filled in and led the Crimson Tide to victory, clinching a spot in the College Football Playoff.

ESPN ranks Hurts as just the No. 7 quarterback and No. 91 overall prospect, while NFL.com projects him as "a good backup who could become a starter."

Come on my man. You been a draftnik for a long time and you think the Rams who just put A top long term contract on their 2 time Pro Bowl, SuperBowl QB who is only 25, who had the 31st rated Oline are going to take a QB at 52 overall.

Put down the pipe my man.

There is no Universe where this will
Happen. Especially not this one which we currently live in and call reality.

Zero chance the Rams draft a QB at 52.

Not sure on Jalen Hurts, IMO, he's a one trick pony, but he's proven me wrong as I did not expect him bringing the Tide back against Georgia and he did. I did expect a solid campaign in Norman, with an expected loss on the big stage and that happened. Love that he can run, but I'm not sure he can throw at the professional level and will be utilized like Kordell Stewart was in Pittsburgh.

Again I would love for the Rams to acquire a Quarterback that could run, but if the Rams pass on an Offensive Linemen at 52 & 57, IMO, it will be for a running back & wide receiver.

Dance until your feet hurt. Sing until your lungs hurt. Act until you're William Hurt and pass on Jalen Hurts.

maybe wishful thinking. Mcvay said he hasn’t even looked at QB’s this draft &
Only knows them from looking at players they were looking at.

I think J. Hurt will be a good QB in the NFL. This might not be the year to draft a QB like him, because of the evaluations. The Rams did make a trade though @58.

John Wolford had a good preseason in 2019. TheRams still need another arm in camp.
I believe that The Rams have to go RB with one of there top 2 picks.

agree, with all the craziness going on in the world a backup QB is not high on the list. Dak went in the 4th rd.

Even with the extra pick now, I don’t think The Rams draft him early. Curious about Mcvay saying he has not looked at QB’s at all 2019.
The Rams need help on defense as well & there might be a couple that fall into there lap.
How good is John Wolford. I actually think he his better than Bortles. Will Blake be back once salary issues settle ? I don’t think he has signed anywhere ?

J. Hurt is a winner & seems like a good kid. I look a little harder on him to see how far off I might have been.

agree about Hurts, but hows about a late pick of James Morgan.

from
SB Nation
Morgan could be drafted by the Indianapolis Colts who will need to groom a quarterback to replace Philip Rivers and Jacoby Brissett, both become free agents in 2021. Some experts have him falling late in the day to the Los Angeles Rams.

He was a visit by the Rams FO

Bro, it's not just any qb, it's our back up qb. Totally worth a second!

I'd love to see Morgan added but think he will go a little earlier than we can afford to. Some buzz of late on him unfortunately.

Still would take a dev type QB round 6ish if one I like is there and let McVay coach him up for purposes of backup duty or flipping him for picks down the road.

If you're gonna talk that talk, better learn to walk that talk too.

Some late rounders/UDFAs make it to starting NFL positions because they fortify their game on a daily basis, both during and the offseason.

As for Hurts, he'll likely need to redshirt a season or two in the NFL to make it work.

If you want an athlete for a back up QB who can fill roles like a Taysom Hill, don't waste the high draft pick on Hurts when you can grab Tyler Huntley in the 6th/7th/UFA

I wouldn’t mind drafting Hurts be I do think it’s very improbable it happens. I could see a QB in the 3-5th rounds like Fromm.

I agree on RB. And Hurts might be a good NFL QB. A late pick isn’t outside the realm of possibility if McVay wanted to use him like Taysom Hill on sub packages. But some team will
Take him earlier I’m thinking.
