There were always going to be growing pains with Stafford. He was arguably the best QB in the NFL two weeks ago and while I am very happy with him overall, he's not THAT good. Some regression was going to happen. Losing Woods also hampered the offense tonight I think.

We have to face the facts that this defense is only meant as a complement - a side dish - to our offense, because of Morris.

But we play at GB in two weeks, which decides our fate: win and we can. Be the number one seed. Lose and it's wildcard, for sure. And for the first time all year, few will expect us to win which will be nice.

And above all - I trust McVay and the talent we have. The offense will get back on track and we will be in the playoffs either way, and as Tampa showed last year, you can get beaten down multiple times in the regular season and still win it all.

Not sure what will happen in GB, but I'm strangely calm and trust McVay will turn this around.

is it the same calmness you had when you said the rams would never lose to the whiners again with stafford as the qb?

Why are we still talking about Goff?

Fuck it... I blame this loss on Dieter Brock (not the poster)... I mean QBs from the past are fair game, right?

And NO ONE has ever said McVay is blameless in this, so bringing up Goff after a shit game is only gonna have posters going after one another and give the Mods a massive headache.

So maybe... I dunno... don't start that shit after a bad night? Maybe?

mate, slow down and actually read what he said.

I really agree.

Two things:

1) Unless we beat AZ by 17 AND AZ loses another division game, there is no way for us to win the division. This game cemented us at the 5 seed unless we shit the bed the rest of the season. That's just the math of it. Our only glimmer of hope is if the Cards lose to the Seahawks and even better if the 9ers take out the Cards later in the year. Short of that, we're looking at the 5 seed.

2) Losing Woods after the gameplan was installed was way more devastating than we thought. Skow may kinda know the role, but early drops and missed blocks really hurt us early and McVay stopped calling Skow's number. If anything, we needed Skow to be as clutch as Woods and that's almost unfair to ask of a rookie. We have two weeks to figure out schematically how we attack because without Woods, this is really a different offense. I, for one, underestimated how much we'd be affected by Woods' absence. Well, I've been corrected. We missed him almost as much as we'd miss Stafford and maybe more than Kupp which is kinda crazy to think about. Life without Woods is gonna be tougher than our Super Bowl run without Kupp... Guys are gonna have to step up.

BONUS: I'm also calming down remarkably quickly for me as well. The last two games don't define this team and with all the roster changes, even for superstars, they're upsetting to the plan. So you couple a team that owns us with physical play and us losing Woods and having TWO major pieces to install all while SF is getting healthy at home... yeah, we shoulda been underdogs and should continue to be until we beat them. 5 in a row isn't a fluke. But I still have faith in this team. They can prove me right or wrong, but this is 2021... how many "good" teams have gotten WAXED this season? I swear the minute the announcers started talking about the "haves and have nots" in the NFL, we saw two weeks of insanity to tighten things up. So I'm calm that we'll gather and show out in GB.

In a few days, I may even be excited to see the GB game...
Already played the Niners twice & swept them, lol.

I'm not necessarily worried, but I do have concerns. We beat some shite teams and Stafford was able to pick them apart. Our road forward is filled with much better teams though, and the playoffs will be games like we had the last two weeks. We're still a playoff team, but if we want to be a contender, we need to be able to win these games, we need to be able to adjust and have an offence that adjusts.

Yes, we want to dictate what the other team is doing, but sometimes that's just not going to happen.

No plan survives contact with the enemy, McVay is a brilliant general when it comes to developing the strategy, but tough battles are often won by the Sergeants and Lieutenants who are adjusting things as needed as the situation unfolds. At some point we need someone to step up, be it a player or a coach, and say "This isn't working, let's make an adjustment." and that decision needs to come quickly in these types of games.

If my almost no-football-knowledge-ass can recognise it while half asleep at 1:30AM on my laptop from half a world away after two drives, then there really shouldn't be an excuses as to why they can't.

I'm just numb. A pummeling like that requires some time off to recalibrate. I don't remember Fisher's rams ever giving up an 18 play opening drive. Thrill of victory - agony of defeat....I get it...that's sports. But shit. The losses from these Rams and last years Rams sting pretty fucking bad. Ever since I was a kid I couldn't deal or cope with losses to the 9ers.

The Rams got prison raped last night. Now they have 2 weeks to come together as a team. In the meantime. I'm going to try to forget about football and concentrate on my self and family. Fuck football for a while.

It's all the coach and lack of coaching ability.
McVay was anointed genius yet I see "help needed apply here please."
You can't say enough about losing his former coaches and how badly it affected the team. He needs help. I am not calm I am resigned again as a ram fan disappointed. I expected better by now.

Or when he said the reason we lost wasn't on the team anymore? Lol

Win some lose some. Sometimes embarrassingly so. Whaddayagonnado? Maybe, like the Rams did under Fisher, Shanahan built his team to beat the strongest team in the division. I mean, that is the 5th straight win against us despite being underdogs for most of them.

Now you know how those seadouche fans felt about the Rams peeling off wins against them when they really had no business doing so.

Feel free to show me where I said that specifically.

I was wrong however in solely blaming Goff for the losses to the Niners.

Dude, you've always been a solid fan with a great outlook on the game. Thanks for this post. This was exactly what I needed to read to get back to calm.

Go Rams.

I feel calm because it’s just a football game. Season has a long way to go and all it takes is a win or 2 and the mojo is back. The off season is so long and painful I’d like to enjoy as much as I can while they’re actually playing.
Just 5 years ago we’d be reading threads about who we should draft with the top 5 pick we have.

We've seen this type of Rams team before. This is the same play We've seen since 2019. No matter how many moves we make, we seem to put out the same product on the field. I understand why many have hope, but I personally cannot have faith in this team until I see actual improvement against good teams.

Morris seems to be the scapegoat, which he is trash. But our offense put up 7 points last night, at least up until I turned it off in the 4th. Even with Staleys D, it could not bail out the O with certain games. It was the opposite in 2017 and 2018.

this is a good point... shanahan's team really is built to beat us... but they cant consistently beat anyone else.

I slept well but still salty.

Side note - the snarky, high horse, passive-aggressive comments are really, really fucking annoying to see. That's pissing me off more than the loss.

The defense, however, has ZERO excuses. Morris needs to be fired... TODAY! I'd rather go with Chris Shula or anyone else on the staff. It is criminal football malpractice to run a 2-3-1-5 against 22 personnel with 2 TEs, a RB and FB. That's only two players to account for FOUR gaps and all of our guys are 1 gap guys except for maybe A'Shawn and Gaines. Morris is misusing our guys, employing schemes that in many instances simply cannot win and he's relying on superstar players making exceptional plays instead of simply having his unit execute well and letting the superstars be extra excellent. For whatever issues I have with Rapp and Reeder, I'm not sure they could be put in worse positions to succeed... especially Rapp. Good God it was so bad.

How he responds will matter, but unless we have a third game like this in GB, I don't expect this to be career defining, but only the future can tell us that.

I think if you point to all the other players in the secondary except for Ramsey...you will see that they are all struggling to even come close to previous seasons play levels. Darius is lost out there compared to last year and he was lost before he hurt his ankle. They all seem to be doing something not conducive to their talents. It's like Morris changed stuff just for the sake of it and killed all the strengths of this D in one fell swoop. Having a DC that cannot adjust in any way is just flat out crazy. If they are running it down your throat...bring the safety's up a bit...do something for crying out loud. He is running a scheme that is 10yrs past its prime and has never been successful as a DC or HC. This guy single handedly is going to ruin our chances.

Well, the 49ers politely bent over and got their crap pushed in by the Cardinals TWICE this season already, so that ain't gonna happen.

Weird how they only seem to show up for us. With all the glitz on this roster, we're everybody's super bowl every week it seems...

The Woods injury should be it's own thread as a contributing factor to the loss.
