I watched him at UW and knew how good he was then. He's not Vita Vea, but I couldn't be happier that Grizz is a Ram. He outplayed SJD last year on fewer snaps. It's why I've been saying SJD is hopefully a comp pick.

Robinson's fate will be determined by what they think of B. Brown next year but his cap number doesn't justify his play. The $4M they could gain would help in signing their OL FAs.

Alaric Jackson is showing why I think they might part ways with Havenstein next year. For as much as he is being paid Rob still misses too many blocks and cutting him or trading him will free up cap needed elsewhere. They could free up close to $5M. Jackson's developmental progress has been quick and is testimony to Carberry who simply knows how to handle young prospects.
I agree with the first two parts. I’m not so sure about the Havenstein part. Relatively speaking Havenstein is no longer all that expensive for his level of play.

If Whitworth were to retire this season, trading Havenstein would be a risky proposition. Who would back up Noteboom and Jackson? They are the number 1&2 swing tackles this year.

If Whitworth retired then having Jackson to be the number 1 swing tackle or Noteboom would be good depth.

Now if Whitworth continues to play, then yeah, maybe it happens to save some cap space.

Sorry. Why are you taking a thread about the force that Greg Gaines has become this year and twisting it into a forum for you to run SJD, Robinson and Hav out of town NEXT year. Can we stay in the now and save the predictions for next years roster until after the Rams win the Super Bowl.

To be fair (and accurate), he had the Rams moving-on from Havenstein before this season,

The comp I saw for him was Jurrell Casey.. Very similar builds and both productive Pac 12 stars.
It's taken Gaines a little longer.. but I think that's where he's at.

Here's something to be optimistic about... They'll lose SJD this offseason.. but after 22.. keeping Gaines will be a real option. They'll be able to move on from Robinson at that point, cheap, and they'll be going into Brown's third season. A lot will depend on how much Brown grows and what else they bring in next year... but Gaines could be here for a long time.

First it was Havenstien that pissed in oldnotdead's Wheaties, now it's SJD and ARob.

Greg Gaines is quickly becoming my favorite Rams player

A monster on the field and a mensch off of it

One month ago, I wrote about how Rams defensive tackle Greg Gaines had emerged as one of the most consistently dominant lineman to ever start next to Aaron Donald. A midseason injury to Sebastian Joseph-Day opened the door for Gaines to more than double his number of per-game snaps and I believe it’s no coincidence that Los Angeles has had one of the NFL’s top-ranked defenses in that time.

That’s only improved in the last month, as the Rams are 3-0 in the playoffs and playing in the Super Bowl in large thanks to a defense that has only allowed 55 points in the postseason; L.A. has only allowed three touchdown drives longer than 30 yards in the playoffs, one of those coming when the Rams had a 28-0 lead on the Cardinals.

Fans saw it coming though, voting Gaines as the team’s number one X-factor going into the playoffs.

Gaines is just one part of that machine but he’s a) the biggest part, physically speaking and b) the most likely to defer credit for L.A.’s success against Kyler Murray, Tom Brady, and Kyle Shanahan.

When Super Bowl LVI comes around on February 13th and the national media are asking, “Who’s the best interview?” and “Where are the great human interest stories?”, I’ll implore them to not miss the forest for the trees. Specially, the jolly Christmas tree and what does a Christmas tree do?

It protects the gifts and that’s a fitting role for a 25-year-old Gaines playing alongside Donald, Von Miller, and Leonard Floyd; he does his job and he doesn’t seem to ask for anything in return other than the opportunity to have an experience of a lifetime.

At least, that’s the feeling I get from Gaines when I read his tweets.

Want to pay him a compliment for being an exceptionally fast 312 lb human being? Thanks, but “let’s keep this semi-real” says Gaines.

Worried for the health and safety of players taking too many drugs in order to get through a season? “Actually, it’s Tylenol,” says Gaines.

Players spending too much time these days on perfecting their Instagram look and not enough time watching film? I don’t think that’s going to be a concern for Gaines.

Gaines may have made a significant but unnoticed contribution against the whiners. On their last drive, Jimmy Grabhisownpole was going to check down to a wide open running back who would have gotten 7 or more yards and starting a possible tying or winning drive.

Von Miller applied pressure and Gaines knocked down Crapollo's pass. The drive fell apart from there but the first down batted pass played a significant role in the Rams wrapping that one up.

Had they gotten a first down on their own 36 or so, I'm sure I wouldn't have felt too comfortable.

The emergence of Gaines likely means SJD is not retained, as there are only so many cap dollars to go around, but we shall see what the Rams do. And SJD is a very good player. So that tells you how impressive Gaines has been. If SJD moves on elsewhere, I suspect that his play in Horns will have earned him a very nice contract, indeed.

Gaines is scheduled for free agency in 2023, so I suspect between this & losing SJD following the Super Bowl to F/A, we'll be seeing a great deal more of Bobby Brown next year.

Gaines has simply turned out to be an NFL stud DT.

Another great post 3rd round selection by our Rams.

Holy hell, do I love Grizzly Gaines. He may be modest, but dear fate, can he ball. I can't wait to see what he does in the Super Bowl and the years to come. He's made SJD expendable, and I like SJD a lot.

My favorite attribute Gaines has is his never give up on the play. Multiple times this year he’s tracking guys down that most DL would have given up on. IMO it’s likely ADs influence on him.
Honestly what he's doing now looks a lot like his Washington film. He had some really great games with him showing that short area burst. AD I'm sure has influenced him but he's definitely a good player that probably just had to adjust to the pro game.

Oh and those stubby arms of his get great torque on the rip moves. :laugh4:
