I think @FrantikRam was making 2 separate points that will create room.
1) that we can do restructure (of unnamed player(s))
2) Cut Boom
OK ... maybe

Like most here, I hate the Noteboom contract but I would also hate for the Rams to take on $15M of Dead-$ for just $5M of cap relief (pre-June cut); and lose their best reserve O-Lineman.

Here's an article from May of 2023.

Alaric Jackson says he prefers LT but he's willing to play G if necessary.

Quote from article:

“I love playing left side, honestly,” Jackson said, via The Athletic. “Tackle is my thing, for the most part. I understand that they paid Joe, so I get that whole part. But whatever I can do for the team, I’ll do for the team.”

Thanks for digging that up. I was rackin my remaining brain cells last night trying to recall if he had addressed that. Of course it is possible he feels differently now with FA pending in a year and a full season under his belt putting up solid film at LT. Imagine that is a big difference in money and of course he'll be thinking some team will pay him LT starter money.

And if that is the case will he also demand a contract this offseason. Would not surprise me.

It’s possible we are over estimating his market value. Is he perceived as an upper echelon guard after one good season?

We gave up a 2024 fourth rounder for him (plus ‘25 fifth), he played well… no doubt the Rams will want him back at the right price after that trade investment.
Wasn't it a swap of picks? Something like Pitt gets our 4th and we get their 5th? I agree about the overestimating. He did a good job for us but its a 10 game sample size. He was expendable in Pittsburgh. It was either OTC or Spotrac that had his market value at 3 years 24 million total. That seems a little high for a guy who was was considered borderline starter material his first 3 years.

Two picks went each way.

Rams sent their 2024 4th and 2025 5th to the Steelers for their 2024 5th and 2025 6th.

I don’t know how Spotrac or OTC determine their market value but I am thinking the deal Green Bay gave to re-sign their 27-year old Guard Elgton Jenkins last offseason as a comparable.

It was 4 years and $68M. That’s a big number but it was structured such that the first year cap hit was just under $7M (source Spotrac and OTC).

I hope they can re-sign him.

But if they don't is there another Dotson or Corbett type situation on another team of which Snead might be able to take advantage?

That would be nice but Corbett was 2019 and Dotson 2023. Terrific pick-ups but they don't happen often.

The Rams' cap space right now is between $30-35M; and they will need another $5-$7M for their draft class; and you want them to spend $17-$18M on a guard?
I hear ya, don’t want to spend huge $$ on the guard position, but if your guards suck, the whole team sucks.

Rams are going to go hard after edge and corner in FA, that's the 1A scenario. If they can get a top edge and corner, will there be enough left to sign Dotson to a top of market contract?

We're all gonna lose our ever loving sh*t when Rams let Dotson walk and plan to start Boom at RG.

Definitely want to pursue an EDGE in FA. CB is a position I’d prefer to address in the draft.

I'd be willing to overpay a little with Stan's money to retain Dotson. He was really good for us and can be in 2024-2025 or more. Remember, we are one draft pick away from Logan Bruss 2.0.

Right.
If you DO are-sign Dotson, wouldn’t it be smarter to hit his contract big in the first year?
Avila would be under rookie contract.
Jackson is getting tendered, a big pay day possibly occurring in ‘25.
Drafting either a Center or LT would also be under rookie contract.

I know it eats a lot of cap to sign one guy, but I’d much prefer to spend it on Dotson (proven in the Rams system) than overpay a FA Edge rusher who had single digit sacks. Just draft somebody. The Rams had two rookies almost hit 10 sacks. They should be better next season.
I’d say no tbh because this is our push year for a SB and if you can get a premium rusher to cap our D-Line with that has experience and stats to back it up.

As you can see both have more than single digit sack seasons and and pretty damn productive and that’s without factoring in the AD factor.

20 mill 3 years for Hunter? Yes please! Add a legit CB (12-16mill a year) in there and that helps us be flexible in the draft to go BPA or a high combo of BPA and need as Snead has talked about in his philosophy.

This is exactly the direction I expect them to go.

BPA in draft with combo of financial/health/production whether it’s a CB,OLB or whatever, see them being open and fluid to making the draft very productive for us.

If we keep him at 20 mil for next season, how much dead money do we get hit with if we cut him in 2025?

I want Dotson re-signed. Really want continuity on the O-Line.
Posted yesterday that the only two pending Rams' free agents I care about are Dotson and Shelton.

Even posted that I am OK if they have to spend a little above-market to re-sign Dotson.
Just DON'T think the Franchise Tag makes any sense.

FWIW, Jourdan has the sense that they may let Witherspoon walk depending on how they work the compensatory picks this year (different than years previously as they'll be spenders this year).

We may need two CBs and ideally it would be nice for one to be a vet. That being said, I haven't looked at the FA CB class much.

I'm 80/20 on doing that.

Yeah, you don't really hear many teams using the FT much these days, it's so cost prohibitive.
