Finishing 2017 the number one scoring offense was an incredible accomplishment for rookie Head Coach Sean McVay, and his revamped Rams.

Bringing in key receiving options Robert Woods and Sammy Watkins from the Buffalo Bills, along with draftees TE Gerald Everett and WR Cooper Kupp, add in the backside rock of protection LT Andrew Whitworth from the Bengals, and John Sullivan from the Redskins and McVay quietly put together the tools to implement his innovative offense, and achieve an improbable worst-to-first miracle for the Los Angeles Rams offense.

Oh, and by the way, McVay found a way to use holdovers Tavon Austin, Tyler Higbee, and revive the reputations of QB Jared Goff, and especially NFL Offensive Player of the Year RB Todd Gurley. (Just look at my avatar to the left- second day of training camp. It was clear there was a fire in his eyes)

What about the Rams’ special teams? No doubt with all-time great P Johnny Hekker, K Greg “the leg” Zuerlein, who was on pace to set a league scoring record, before missing the last few games with a back injury, and all-pro returner Pharoh Cooper, the Rams boast the leagues #1 special teams.

Fast forward to 2018. Legendary Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips took over a talented group of defenders, put together by previous Head Coach Jeff Fisher. However, some of the players, notably ILB Alec Ogletree and the sadly declining OLB Robert Quinn didn’t seem to be good position fits for Phillips’ 3-4 defense last year. While the Rams defense played well on occasion, they were often plagued by run gap failures, often gashed for long runs.

With that in mind, and with the help of GM Les Snead, the Rams had perhaps the franchises most aggressive free agency since escaping Cleveland in the 1940s. Picking up elite CBs Marcus Peters and Aquib Talib, DT Ndamukong Suh and reserve CB Sam Shields, the Rams have developed into a possible defensive juggernaut.

So the question for you gentleman is this:

Will the 2018 Rams have the #1 Offense, Defense AND Special teams?

Please vote in the poll.

Nope, but top 5 in all three is a realistic possibility. Would make us Super Bowl contenders for sure.

Special teams - Probable, but riding on GZs recovery.
Offense- Questionable. Gurley will have a hard time matching last year's production.
Defense - doubtful. Linebacker is that unit's Achilles heel.

If the defense is as badass as i think it'll be, our offense can take a step back to just top 10 and i believe we'll win playoff games.

I don’t know. I think we have a shot. I honestly don’t see the offense taking a step back. I see Goff growing. Cooks being more productive than Sammy, and Everett becoming a beast.

As far as special teams, there is no real group ranking. Although there should be.

I also see player progression on offense like none we've seen here since maybe the Martz era....but i also think teams will gameplan better and not get caught napping as much on D.

Thing is, that's okay because i still believe that the dominant O wins lots of reg season games and division titles but the elite defenses win playoff games, along with a QB and supporting cast who can get it done on 3rd down vs other elite D's.

Rams weren't good enough on D last year. I said it all year. A bit soft IMO and although talented, not a fit personnel-wise for Wade.

I think the Rams are going to annihilate QB's this year. Bradford, Wilson and Jimmy cracked corn are going to be looking for their car keys by the 4th qtr.

I just know our division is crapping it's collective pants with what the Rams have put together.

Just watch. Between the three teams, you'll see six Olinemen in the first 3 rounds.

ROD brothers, does it really matter if the Rams are #1 in offense, defense or special teams? No offense to the thread starter but we could end up with bad stats but if we hoist the Lombardi, I will be opening the champagne.

Example would be how New Orleans had a great yards per carry stats but take away Kamara's 80 yard run and they probably got 1.6 YPC. I know all carries count but I'm confident Wade will right the ship this season and we won't have so many big runs against us.

No offense taken Steve. My point in making the post is that the Rams could potentially achieve the most well-rounded, dominating team in the leagues history. Of course the Lombardi is my measuring stick, as well. But this could be good.

I have wanted for years for the Horns to be #1 in all three phases of the game---not just to be #1: but to dominate! each category convincingly. Yes, I'm damn greedy, and I want the entire team to be greedy about that kind of excellence too.

I voted no on defense only because we would be up by 40 points each game in the second half that we will be giving up two or more late gimme touchdowns each game to lower our defense to #2 or #3

I fear injuries will catch up with the Rams this season. Goff, Whitworth, Gurley, Woods, Cooks. Any one of them would severely hurt the Rams chances of going all the way. Rams bench just isn't that deep.

The team isn’t complete yet. There is bound to be 3-4 veterans scooped up along the way, along with another 3-4 potential contributors in the draft.

Though your point above is well taken. I think we could weather Woods OR Cooks, but multiple receiver injuries would hurt. We have to see the growth of Reynolds and Cooper.

As far as Whit. Jared or Todd? <shudders>
