There is a chance Jamon Brown doesn’t play due to groin injury.

Who will start in his place? I’m guessing Austin Blythe?

I presume it will be Donnal. Blythe is a center, don't think he'd be a better option than Donnal at guard. Plus they have to have him ready in the event Sully has a setback.

The way Brown has been playing, I'd also presume it's a pretty big dropoff to Donnal. Donnal is not nearly as physical as Brown is.

I am sure that Andrew Donnal is the top reserve for both OG positions. I would think he is technically sound but you would have to conclude that he is not close to what Jamon Brown is today physically.

Donnal was the better right OG last season but after the hip surgery in January & a very long layoff from the field I would not want to see Donnal going up against this Seattle front seven without even a warm up game. This offense would take a hit if JB is not able to start.

Someone please correct me if i'm wrong, but I don't believe Donnal has received a single pre-season or regular season snap this year. If so, which game & how many snaps at what position ? There has been little news of his direction since McVay announced early following his hiring that he expected most of the reserve offensive linemen were to be cross-trained. There had been a good deal of speculation about his health status around these parts, although that appeared to end abruptly after he was named to the starting 53 at the end of camp. Still, the guy seems a ghost, ... and so does any media speculation about him. At the end of last season he was thought to have a future being one of the first reserves off the bench at either RT or OG, and the team had brought in several players who received time on the field but didn't get past camp.
The Rams don't seem worried about OL depth at the moment, they haven't raided another teams practice squad or brought up another player for the bench, so maybe I shouldn't worry either, but for some reason I am. The Rams let C/OG Aaron Neary go back to the practice squad when WR/ST's player Mike Thomas returned from suspension, so Blythe & Donnal are seemingly the only others available to fill the spot if necessary. It seems I recall Blythe getting some time in at RG during at least 1 pre-season game, and he did hold his own for his few snaps at the position, he's also had some regular season snaps at center as Sullivan's reserve.
As for Donnal, I don't know what to think other than I liked his potential during the 2016 season, but coming in cold off the bench if Brown is incapable, I do see some reason for concern. If I had to guess, Blythe would be the first guy up, but that guess is only because of the lack of available information. jmo

Let's hope Brown plays. Donnal doesn't have enough sand in his pants.

Agree on that when compared to the GIRTHY Jamon Brown. Donnal can play OG in a pinch but is really a over 6-6 310 to 315 pound RT.

I believe a Blue Chip 2018 LT prospect is a big need so Andre Whitworth could provide a talented young rookie a perfect OL'er to mirror from so Goff can have the same comfort in the future as he has now with Whitworth. Andrew Donnal will never be that.Kromer may still desire to keep Havenstein tune up as a two post player RG/RT if need be. A new rookie OT could make that possible if something was to happen to Brown @ RG next season where Havenstein could slip inside if mandated. I would also hope Snead/McVay could resign UFA center John Sullivan for another 2 seasons (2018/2019).

This I think we can all agree is the position that MOST needs to be addressed in the off season and more than likely the draft.

That sounds about right except Donnal has not been on the active roster all season.

Plus Blythe is going to be active anyway.

Wow, can we all agree that we thought we would never be saying this at the start of pre-season?

It is refreshing to see our players being coached up!

At this point, I don't know if I can agree. Let's see how Brown and Hav finish the year because they've been improving every week. Our OL is performing well right now. Personally, I think we need some help on D and to get a LT of the future whom Whitworth and Kromer can help develop.

I was initially counting on a CB for our top draft pick in 2018, but it's starting to size up like it will be a very strong draft for OT's. Trey Adams is an interesting prospect, but doubtful he's available where we draft. DraftSite.com has us penciled in for Oklahoma's Orlando Brown at the moment, there should be a good one where we draft, maybe even if we get the 32'nd pick. jmo.

Zeus Brown's kid? I bet Kromer would be happy with that. He likes big boys.

We need a replacement for Whitworth yesterday. I want Whit as long as he wants to be here AND he's still effective. But I also want the new guy to be trained by him.

The kid from WMU? I don't know. I haven't watched him this year, but T.J. Watt gave him a lot of problems last year.

True, but Watt gave damn near everyone problems. He's super athletic and smart enough to learn about his position with the help of Whitworth and Kromer, but he's raw at this point. I could picture him falling or rising, depending on his Combine.

I like Adams and Brown, but they're likely going higher than we pick.
