I think The Rams are playing a little dumb as far as there need in the Offensive Line !!

I hope so. A developmental/backup for Whit/Have is our #1 priority need imo. OL takes more time to develop than other positions, and when things go awry the play at other positions fall like dominoes. Then teams seem to never recover until they rebuild....

The Rams drafted Isaiah Battle from. Supplemental Draft for a 5th rd. I think The Rams can find a talent OT in the 3rd or 4th that will stick.

IMO Rams either trade up or draft 3 lineman.I like the fact The Eams have a bunch of late rd draft picks. I think they can work up & down the draft pin pointing the players they want.

The OL reserve unit is ugly to review.:sadwalk: If this OL suffers a few injuries Goff will be in serious danger :help:. All the Peters, Talib, Suh, Cooks, Shields, Wilson, Easley & Nickell Robey-Coleman signings does nothing to help him.

I think this OL is gonna look a lot different in 2 years. There might only be one 2017 starter left--whomever of the big 3 FAs gets resigned. Re-signing 2 would be gravy, IMO.

If the Rams put up the kind of #s they did last season and Gurley has another monster year, re-signing these guys will be tough. I could easily see Havs becoming the highest paid RT in the league. If he does get that kind of $$, I would be surprised if it came from the Rams.

Saffold was amazing last season. Just go back and watch the hi-lights. Game in and game out, he was making huge blocks to spring Gurley. The chemistry between him and Whitworth was incredible. Rarely does a stunt or blitz overwhelm them. Saffold will be looking to grab that last big payday and if he plays like he did last year, he will probably get it.

Factor in the age of Whitworth and Sullivan, and it's fairly clear to see that there needs to be some draft capital spent this year on future replacements.

I’m really hoping Orlando Brown slides.

His tape is beastly and with McVay and Kromer coaching him up and going against our D in practice, he could really nail down that position after Whit is done.

I like the defenders there at 87, but we all know that an offense is only as good as the OL

Some scouts are saying he projects out to a RT or push inside to Guard. I like him as well.

Sounds like Brown interviews went well at his pro day, a big concern after the combine. He would be a nice fit for a team with an aging LT, and soon to be free agent RT.

The resigning of Lucas is encouraging. Kromer doesn't let guys stick around if he doesn't see improvement, ala Barnes, Donnal, Wichmann. Lucas started and played RT the last game of the season and looked pretty good. Does Kromer see Lucas as a LT? He has all the measurable of a LT. I'm guessing we're going to see a lot of Lucas in pre season.

We also re-signed Darrell Williams. I think he was/is the backup LT.

So that means we have Blythe and Lucas under contract with starts under their belt already.

We just got a little less thin on the OL though I feel sure we will draft a couple as well.

Rams aren't as thin on the OL as some think. With a couple guys in the draft and a camp cut the Rams OL should be in pretty good shape. Of course, "barring injury".

Whitworth--D Williams (Lucas)?
Saffold-Blythe
Sullivan-Eldercamp, Blythe
Brown-D Williams, Neary
Havenstien-Lucas

That's nine OL. That how many Rams kept on 53 man roster last season and the only dressed 8 for games.
I could see the Rams upgrading if they see someone get cut or a Draftee look better in TC. If I were D Williams or Neary, I'd be very worried about getting replaced.

Well that's the whole thing there though isn't it?
How good are the second-tier offensive lineman?
How many injuries could we have before the line falls apart?
Which player could we afford to lose without taking a BIG step backwards?

The good news is we have seen other teams offensive lines lose players.
The next man up steps into the spot with no discernible drop off.

With a real offensive line coach in Kromer, there's a possibility we could be one of those teams.

Within reason and depending on number of injuries of course.

To be a dominant offense you need a dominant OL. The Rams are old in two spots and the two young guys are in the last year of their deals.

So they need to bring in at least two guys this year that have a legitimate shot of being quality starters by 2019 or 2020. And sure they could bring in another vet who would be a short term option like Whitworth, but FA money will not be plentiful going forward as the Rams hopefully lock up their own star players. Some cheap, but effective rookie OL are a must.

Personally, I am hoping for one of the LB's with the Rams 87th pick BUT if Orlando Brown somehow falls that far I would definitely select him and then take the best LB with their next pick(s)!

I sort of took the weekend off from posting , waiting for the draft. Well I’ll look up a couple post , but my prior was to resign Williams & Lucas .

My reasoning is DW was The Rams back up LT last year !!! You can keep going on about Roger Saffold being The Rams 2nd Best LT !!
I totally disagree again now after the resigning of Darrel Williams. He Got Starter Reps at LT All 2017 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For 18 plus weeks.
Darrell Williams is only 24 going into his 3rd season this season which is inheard of ? Garet Boles who was the first OLineman draft last season is 26 in May. There is still upside there. This move just gives The Rams insurance as well.I have to reread my frame of mind ? I think though daryl Williams was unlisted in the roster at the time of this post, along with the motivation for it ???

Lucas has Never Left The Rams roster.

Connor Barwin is now after this weekend officially off a The Rams roster !!!

So now once again my point of view changes back . The resigning of DW & Big Lucus addresses the Offensive Line spots giving The Rams to draft the BPA.

—went back & DW getting dropped from the roster made me crazy. The Rams signed Dunn who is now off The Rams roster.
