Yeah I can tell he let off the throttle smart move by him no doubt if that was regular season he would have went for it

I don't know about that. I remember him trotting out of bounds several times last year

Austin caught a quick screen from quarterback Nick Foles, got loose thanks to a block from wide receiver Kenny Britt, and was off to the races. He gained 35 yards before the Raiders brought him down.
Next to Foles performing well, and the O-Line playing well! This^ was the most important thing for me to see, and I LOVED IT! And to see the way Britt helped, WOW! Good things to come!!(y):D

First he got the block, then he stopped 3 defenders in their tracks with a move, threaded between two Rams, then he goes afterburner. What's weird though is he went out of bounds with a nice gap available for him to exploit and go all the way with a move.

I'm hoping Tavon breaks loose this season. It's time to take off the reigns and let him "ball out!" Cignetti needs to get him the damn ball.

There's no reason to even try to go all the way in preseason. Not only does it increase the risk of injury, it takes away snaps for the offense to get more practice. I was happy he went out of bounds.

Tavon routinely stepped out of bounds once the play was over at WVU. He's listed at 5-8 176. What do you want him doing, trying to bowl people over or breaking ankles for what he can and then living to fight another day? This isn't about his heart, there's no doubting that, it's just smart.

Man I really hope your new coaches figure out how to use him...it's a hoot to watch him take over.

That's what it looked like to me as well. I think he likely could have made the guy miss but the pre-season is more about reps and practice than it is about winning.

Yeah, but that's some insane natural ability. The game was slow for him there.

It's slowing at this level now.
True that, he's also seems to be maturing as a pro and finding ways how to exploit other pros instead of just relying on pure talent like in college. I'm excited for him this year.

It seems like many forget that Bruce and holt used to go down before contact. Tavon is one of the smallest players in the nfl. I have no problem with him going out of bounds.

.

saw the play again and confirmed what i thought when i saw it live. the ball went backwards to austin. so it should have been a run instead of a catch in the stats.

why should i care? i dunno, i just thought the ball went backwards. they have to be alert if they drop it. don't want any cadillac moments this season.

With a lackluster performance after two seasons, and a contract option on the line, SI’s Chris Burke says Rams receiver Tavon Austin has much to prove in 2015.

Yep.
Ike Bruce always dove down at the end of the play to avoid unnecessary pounding. He took some flak for it at the time for being soft....to me, if the play is over it is smart.
